What Students Are Saying
Have an open mind, join as many on campus clubs and activities as you can. Becoming a pirate is a process! After you experience your first ECU football game you will officially bleed purple and gold. Being friendly in the dorms is a must-being social in college is almost just as important as that 4.0.

If your a Biology major, GOOD LUCK! It is a hard major especially the A&P classes! However, ECU is growing into more and more medical fields and also has a number 1 Criminal Justice program. Also, beware on Halloween, because they close some streets down and it is like a major party that everyone goes out in the streets with their horrifying costumes and police are everywhere!
One more thing: DO NOT BUY YOUR BOOKS ON CAMPUS!! They are a rip off. I recommend buying off ebay, Chegg.com, amazon or any other book stores online because you can get them so much cheaper and then sell them back to ECU.

My tips for prospective students are simple. First tip, come to school knowing you want to succeed and have a great education. You have to come here and study hard, and live a stress free lifestyle. Yes, school can be VERY stressful at times, but remember; only you are in control of your destiny and future endeavors. Second tip, go to your professors’ office for help. Most of my success here at East Carolina has solely been going to my professors’ office and asking them for help. In fact, the number one tip that I learned before I came to college was learning that professors enjoy seeing their students, and are very impressed that their student is actually taking the time to learn and come to their office to have a successful semester in their class. Third tip, HAVE FUN! Get out and enjoy the life of being a pirate through awesome advanced screening movies on campus, mingling with other pirates downtown on weekend nights, cheering and being loud for the back-to-back Conference USA pirates at one of the loudest football stadiums in North Carolina at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, or enjoying a delicious midnight breakfast meal before exams begin!!

Don't party all the time. You are paying for the school, so don't waste your money. Also attend professors extra instruction. Extra instruction is usually a key word for going over the exam from last year, which usually doesn't change too much from year to year.
Olivia
study hard, don't take more hours than you think you can handle, be careful, balance social and school, go to class

For prospective students my advice is to be responsible for yourself actions. Although East Carolina University is filled with things to do, you must learn to separate fun from when it is time to get work done. Try not to get caught up in the wonderful activities so that you can stay focused on your grades. Also, always walk in groups at night to avoid issues of crime.

Remember that your high school study habits don't work here or anywhere for that matter. Also it is okay to have a little fun but just keep in mind what you are going to school for and keep the dream in sight. There will always be a party, but you don't always have to be there for your name to be known. STUDY FIRST PARTY LATER!!!
Dale from Sanford, NC
The school is not going to be like high school, it is easy to lose track of what the goal is for many students spend time partying and spending a majority of time with friends, but the key is not to lose track of the reason that you are at the school.

It is important to get involved as much as possible! Join clubs- the Greek Life at ECU has a lot to offer. Also, join the Student Pirate Club, which is the largest student booster organization in the nation. There is no better place to sit and watch a football game than in the Boneyard! Make sure that you go to class and meet your professors.
Kristyn from Holly Springs, NC
Get involved! In order to get a full feel of college life you will need to involve yourself in anything. A sport, a fraternity, a club, anything! They are easy way to make friends and to contribute to the college community.
