Am learning a lot | The professors at UNO are exceptional and all those I have had are extremely knowledgeable in their fields. Also the course offerings are extremely diverse giving me a lot of new knowledge. |
Am enjoying being here | I have returned for a second year at UNO because I love the small campus atmosphere. And the central Omaha location makes the campus convenient for on and off campus living. |
Bang for the buck | All colleges are expensive, so UNO's tuition is par for the course. However UNO does a great job of compensating qualified out-of-state students with substantial scholarships. |
Tips for prospective students | If a first year student I suggest on-campus living as it offers an amazing atmosphere and a chance to meet new friends. I also suggest picking one advisor to deal with in you college as it can be often confusing dealing with many. |
Great for these types of students | UNO is great for students looking for a small, student focused community while attending college. |

Am learning a lot | I just completed my first semester and I sincerely learned something new and interesting in each of my classes. All of my professors were incredibly knowledgeable in their respective areas of study. Just by attending class I really learned a lot about each subject. |
Am enjoying being here | Even though I am not living on campus, I made sure to get involved in organizations to meet new people. The campus is beautiful and very easy to get around on. I have met new people in all of my classes and enjoy the overall camaraderie on campus. I love the feel of UNO. |
Bang for the buck | Of course every school's tuition is expensive, but as long as you fill out the FAFSA or put some effort into scholarship searches, you will find financial aid. As for UNO compensating for the prices, they certainly offer many amenities outside of class for tuition. There's HPER for working out, an extensive library, and great student center right on campus for all students to take advantage of. |
Tips for prospective students | If you aren't from Omaha, schedule a campus visit! During required orientation you will get a tour of the campus and an overview of the school, but if you are debating between schools, take the time to visit. Also, keep in touch with older students so they can show you tips on simple things from buying cheap books, building a good schedule, and having an successful first semester. Most importantly, get involved!! Even if you don't live on campus, join an organization so you make the most of college. |
Great for these types of students | UNO is great for students who want a closed campus feel while still being in the middle of a metropolitan city. As long as you are willing to take advantage of all that UNO offers, you will succeed and enjoy your college experience here. |

In three sentences | This school is constantly changing and evolving. The student body is involved in the community and the promotion of everyone succeeding. This school is one of the best in the tri-state area, even if the football program has been cut....hey, we will are still part of the Husker Nation....GO HUSKERS! |
Tips for prospective students | It's o.k., if you don't know what you want to be when you grow up...that's o.k.! You will find your niche within your first year. There are people from the President down to the Student Affairs office who have wonderful open door policies, so don't be afraid |
Academic Rigor | The classes are wonderful; challenging and the teachers won't hold your hand but if your having trouble all you need to do is ask. On campus, there are centers and tutors available for just about any and all subjects. And, if you can't find a tutor go to you student advisor and they will find you a tutor free of charge! |
Dorm Life | I don't live on campus, but my friends that do, love it. The dorm's are not even 5 years old...they are more like apartments with a living room, kitchen, basic cable and Internet services, all provided. It's a very well lit area and campus security is always ready and available to escort you wherever you need to go! |
Food and Dining | The Student Union has an eclectic grouping of restaurants! Every time I go up there, I find something that I just know wasn't there before! If your vegan, a meat lover, love cuisines from all over the world, this is your place....oh made to order specials, too! |
What to do for fun | The Midnight Mojo activities are the bomb diggity! The host free movies, pool parties, tailgates for the games, free food! The fraternities and sororities host get togethers and campus wide events! There is something to do each and every month, you will never get bored and you will see different parts of the city! |
Bang for the buck | I like the Mavcard program, it's our student id card and you can preload it with cash to make purchases on campus! Everytime you do use it on campus, you can get an additional 5% off your purchases. Plus, there is a website, where your parents can add money onto your card at anytime!!! |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | There are no unusual traditions that I know of, but with over 12,000+ students, I can't know everything or be everywhere....right! |
Great for these types of students | We have an award winning Science Center, many renowned artists have come out of UNO. We have speakers from all over the world come speak at UNO regarding a variety of different subjects. Many people have life changing experiences listening to the speakers or join the Army Corp or Peacekeeper missions because of it. |
Clubs and Activities | There is a club or activity for virtually any hobby or habit, fraternities, sororities, religious clubs, LGBT clubs & the office of MultiCultural affairs. We have the Seven Days of Service, during Spring Break, which is a community service event, which is wonderful and gets UNO students out into the Omaha community. |
Greek Life | I know that there are several Greek organizations on campus, but have not been able to partake, because I work the evenings during pledge week and am not always able to make it. |
Campus Safety | Is awesome! You can go onto the UNO website and see our security reports. Compared to some campus, we get an A+! |

Am learning a lot | I love all of my classes. The professors are really detailed in their explanations of the material. I feel very comfortable asking questions because I know they will be answered as accurately as possible. |
Am enjoying being here | It's awesome here! I live on campus, so it is very easy to make it to classes on time. I can get anywhere in about 10 minutes. The dorms are wonderful. I love the apartment-style and having my own room and kitchen. I also really like the HPER center. It's a great place to work out. |
Bang for the buck | I feel that being here is definately worth the money. The campus is great and the money paid for tuition and housing goes towards making the college experience more memorable. |
Tips for prospective students | I would advise prospective students to apply for on campus housing. It's a great way to meet people. Also, I would say that if you want to graduate in four years, you should take more than 12 credit hours per semester. In addition, it would be a good idea to take summer classes. |
Great for these types of students | UNO is great for students who love being in a big city. Most students here commute, so there it's great for those who want to have a little more freedom by living in their own house or apartment. |

Am learning a lot | All of the professors at UNO are hard-working, determined people. They are set out to help you in any way possible. Granted, there are a few professors without this attitude, but most are willing to take time out other their lives to help you achieve the best possible. The curricula here is very in-depth, so studying is a must, but there are many places that will help you. |
Am enjoying being here | The campus itself is absolutely beautiful, and the university is small enough that you don't feel like you are being smothered, which is a great feeling. Many updates are currently going on to revive the campus, and there are many things to come. There are hundreds, if not thousands of different groups and clubs you can join, on top of all of the sports and extracurricular activities there already are. You feel welcome there. |
Bang for the buck | The tuition is the best by far from the colleges that I looked at. There are a couple of things that are a little expensive. The room and board costs a lot, which can hurt your wallet. Also, the books are overly price (but where are they not?) The food is a bit over priced, but manageable. Overall, it's one of the less expensive colleges out there |
Tips for prospective students | Always get involved soon!!! That is the one thing I can tell you, whether it is by joining a fraternity or sorority or going to a weekly meeting with a club, it just allows you to have the chance to meet new people, and possibly make connections with those that can be very beneficial later in life. It also promotes leadership, so if you are a shy person, by putting yourself out there, you are giving yourself the chance to influence others, which is a great felling, trust me on that. It also creates long-lasting friendships. |
Great for these types of students | Any student would be happy here. People who are energetic, ready to try new things, those who have a positive attitude about school, sports fans, theatrical students, pre-med and pre-dental students, those who are just getting started, whether you are 18 or 38, you will fit right in. Anyone who is anyone has a great chance of finding a certain typ of solace here at UNO. |

Am learning a lot | All of my professors are prepared for the semester, making sure everyone has their books and class materials! They have their course work all planned out perfectly. I know all that I will be learning this semester, and then some, I'm sure! |
Am enjoying being here | I got to be on campus a week before classes started and everyone here has been more than welcoming, friendly, and ready to answer any question I have! I feel like I am at home on this campus. |
Bang for the buck | I am enrolled for 17 credit hours and it's reasonably priced. I am an in-state student and didn't get many scholarships, but I believe many students do recieve them!! |

In three sentences | If you want to go to a school that will help put you on the path of success, then UNO is the place for you. Here you will find an inclusive environment that is designed to help students thrive, both in and out of the classroom. Come and experience all the benefits that UNO has to offer for yourself, GO MAVS! |
Tips for prospective students | Leaving for college can be an intimidating next step of your life. Make the best decision of your life and live on campus in one of UNO's suite style dorms during the first year of college. This will help you to interact with other people your age and will give you the perfect platform for getting involved on our wonderful campus. |
Academic Rigor | UNO is one of the top notch schools in the Midwest for our academic rigor. This school will challenge you to work your hardest and nothing will be just handed to you, but for those students who choose to work hard, success will be knocking at your door right after graduation. |
Dorm Life | UNO is unlike other Universities in that all of the dorms here are suite style. This means that you and 3 other roommates will each have your own bedroom, a living room, and a kitchen where you will be able to live. UNO's dorms will help you to feel more at home after you make the move away from your parent's house after high school graduation. |
Food and Dining | On our south campus, students have access to an excellent dining hall that offers an all you can eat buffet. On our north campus, students have access to the student center which offers a wide variety of food for students to choose from. I've been here for my entire college career and have yet to try everything that UNO has in their food court. |
What to do for fun | UNO is located directly in the center of Omaha and is conveniently placed not too far from the interstate system in Omaha. Any activity that you would like to do in Omaha is only a 10-minute drive away thanks to UNO's convenient placing in Omaha. One of my favorite activities is to attend UNO sporting events, GO MAVS! |
Bang for the buck | UNO is one of the more cost-effective Universities in the Midwest. The price you pay for your education is much cheaper if you were to compare to other Universities. With the quality of education you are getting here, it is a no brainer why people chose to come to UNO. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | UNO is filled with areas that students like to congregate and have fun. You can always find a lively group of individuals in HPER, the library, the student center, and the CEC. |
Clubs and Activities | UNO is filled with all types of clubs and activities for students to become involved in. One interesting club here at UNO is our Quidditch Club where students play a version of quidditch (without the flying of course). If you want to get involved, clubs are definitely the way to go. |
Greek Life | UNO's Greek life is small compared to other universities, there are only 4 Fraternities and 4 Sororities. However, what UNO lacks in the size of their Greek life, they make up for it in the amount that they do for our campus and community. The largest philanthropic events on our campus are held by the Greek life here. Going Greek was the best decision I made when I came to college. |
Campus Safety | A common phrase that I have heard during my time here at UNO is "we want to build and safe and inclusive environment for all students," and I think that they have accomplished this goal. There isn't a single place on campus where I have felt unsafe and I believe the atmosphere here at UNO has a big part in that. |

In three sentences | The university of Nebraska at Omaha is a fantastic school. It is full of happy, welcoming students and helpful faculty. The faculty want their students to do the best that they can and the students here love to learn. |
Tips for prospective students | Put yourself out there and take risks! |
Academic Rigor | The faculty has a high expectation for their students to do great in their classes, but they're willing to help their students in any way that they can. |
Dorm Life | Apartment style housing means four new friends, two bathrooms, and a kitchen all to yourself without worrying about showering in the same room with other people. |
Food and Dining | The cafeterias have amazing food, but if you live in the dorms you have the option to make your own food. |
What to do for fun | There's a ton of on campus activities to participate in throughout the year ranging from plays to volunteer work to late night dance parties. |

In three sentences | Wonderful, compassionate, inspirational, and hard-working professors create an atmosphere that transcends the before-thought of what college was suppose to be like, and creates a place that you enjoy to better yourself instead of a societal ritual that we must all pass. The mathematical system needs improvement and the advisers need more education and experience, however those are the only negatives and can be surpassed if one looks and talks around with other classmates, who are always willing to aid one another. Lastly, one's tuition can obviously be seen in use by the amazing buildings that have been erected; from technologically advanced science laboratories to amazingly stunning work-out facility with an indoor/above-ground track and rock climbing area, this college can give anyone the ability to reach their lives' dream with a little bit of hard-work and determination. |
Tips for prospective students | Ask other students, preferably upperclassmen, for advice on what classes to take, and especially the professors of the basic classes because the advisers are not always sure what they are saying, and don't always give the best advice. |
Academic Rigor | The professors always are willing to aid in anything a student needs, even if they personally cannot help they will find someone who is able. There are also many clubs and groups that not only do things for fun and sport, but to educate and give culture for those who seek more education. |
Dorm Life | They have three dorm facilities and each one is very nice. University Village is the cheapest, and smallest of them all, however it still holds a very pleasant charm and gives a real persona of what an outside apartment would be like; it also sits a few steps away from the main University. Scott Court/Village is a ways away from the facility, however they have a shuttle that runs all day back and forth; the life there is better than University Village in the since that there is more room and a little better quality of the rooms and living spaces. Maverick Village is the more expensive, but better of the three, however it makes up by being close to the University, having its own parking garage, and having the largest amount of space, beautiful kitchen and living area, and wonderful warm rooms with a patio or a terrace. |
Food and Dining | The food is very good, always fresh and made everyday, and it's always available at the Student Center along with a convenience store. The only issue is that it is a little over priced, so one should only eat there if they only have a little bit of time, otherwise they could go to the mall down the street, or take the shuttle bus to Scott Court and walk to Aksarben Village for some food. |
What to do for fun | UNO has a lot to do for fun, it only matters what you think is fun. At the new and stunning HYPR Building they have: an inside/upper-level track, a rock climbing area, a spa, an Olympic size pool, workout station, basket-ball courts, and other courts and areas for classes like, ballet, yoga, zumba, etc. They have a multicultural hour every week where people from all over the world come together to play a game, like baseball or soccer, or to have a conversation and culture themselves. UNO has many sororities, and fraternities, clubs like the equestrian club, tennis club, quittage club, larping club, equality club, Christian clubs, Muslim clubs, etc. There is also always something going on with the college, for example the other week they had a local theme park give free admissions to students with their I.D. card from 9:00 until 12:00 in the evening. |
Bang for the buck | Tuition is always a burden, however if you go to class, take part in clubs and the seemingly weekly free events that UNO offers, and make use of the amazing HYPR building, it is completely worth the money. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | It is right next to the Elmwood park where a lot of different clubs, like quittage and larping, go to practice their skills. Memorial park is across the street and is a hotspot for free concerts, which Omaha itself has a lot of. |
Great for these types of students | Any students are a fit for this college, just because of how different and diverse it is. |
Clubs and Activities | All of the clubs at UNO have some sort of impact, or have been talked about amongst the students. It seems as if, if you have an interest in something, there is a club for it that has a good size and good-minded people. If there isn't a club for whatever you like, which would be strange, then you can surely start on easily and undoubtedly it would get range and strength in no time. |
Greek Life | Always fun, always inviting, always easy to get into, but not to dangerous and threatening. |
Campus Safety | It has been a goal of UNO to make sure the safety of the students on campus are secure and intact. There are poles mounted everywhere in which if a student were being attacked, or chased they can push this button and immediately campus security and local police are informed and on the spot. They are friendly and make life on campus feel more secure and safe for everyone. |

In three sentences | I love my current Masters program at UNO and feel that I have learned a tremendous amount of information and have had the opportunity to establish wonderful relationships with fellow students and professors. The SLP program helps students establish strong relationships with the community and help make connections for the future. The school in itself is very well kept and there is an array of activities to keep students engaged. |
Tips for prospective students | If you are an incoming freshman ensure that you live in the dorms and get involved! Making connections with fellow classmates and establishing close friendships is what can make or break our college career. Get involved it looks great on Resume and opens the door to meet people you would have never had the chance to meet before. |
Academic Rigor | I love my program and feel that it is truly helping prepare me for my future. I feel challenged and as if what I am learning is really applicable to what I may encounter in the work force. |
Dorm Life | I honestly can't provide a good opinion on this aspect, because I am a graduate student and live off campus; however, if you are a underclassmen I would encourage living in the dorms! |
Food and Dining | The dining area is great and offers a variety of different fast food restaurants however it is not the typical cafeteria approach. There is great variety though and lots of seating to mingle. |
What to do for fun | Omaha is a wonderful city and offers a lot of fun options, it is truly a matter of what you put into it will determine what you get out of it! Explore and do new things that you wouldn't! |
Bang for the buck | UNO is extremely great tuition prices, I am always amazed at my tuition bill! |
Campus Safety | I do feel very safe on campus. Even though it is in the center of the city, there are multiple precautions taken to ensure student safety. |
