Am learning a lot
This university is a great place to learn a lot. There is never a dull moment or topic on this campus. Not only in the classrooms, but outside of the educational walls there is always something new and interesting to find out.
Am enjoying being here
I am enjoying every minute on campus and in the town of Monroe. The campus is a smaller university than LSU and even LA Tech, but that is what makes it so great. It does not take very long at all to walk across campus to my classes. It is also a campus that is very pleasing to the eye. A large majority of the buildings are new and there is also a bayou that runs right through the middle of campus. The fellow students are very nice and love to make new friends. You would have to try very hard to come to ULM and not make any friends.
Bang for the buck
You get way more than you pay for when you come to ULM. The classes are much better than people lead on. Every professor I have had so far takes a personal interest in every one of his or her students. The amount of education and personal maturity added together that you will obtain by attending this university is much more than anyone can pay for.
Tips for prospective students
Come to ULM prepared for new friendships, new lifestyles, and much more learning! Come with a positive attitude knowing that when you leave ULM after four years of excellent education you will be better prepared for whatever career field you have chosen. ULM is an excellent learning environment for student athletes, scholar students, or just someone who wants their college education. You can never go wrong by choosing ULM. There is a wide variety of majors and minors in case you cannot set your heart on one. With all of the student organizations and events that happen on campus there is something for everyone.
Great for these types of students
This university is great for everyone! There is no specific type of student that is made for this school. There are students from in-state, out of state, and even students from out of the country! There is no one that can't come here. ULM is truly an excellent choice and you will not be disappointed!

The professors are extremely helpful with making sure you know the material. Most classrooms on campus are equipped with smart boards and other high tech equipment so you're not just hearing the information, you can see it as well.
Am enjoying being here
I no longer live on campus but I still enjoy being on campus as much as I did when I was living on campus. Campus life is always buzzing.
Bang for the buck
It is definitely a bang for your buck. You get access to everything: activity center, student success center, tutors, etc.
Tips for prospective students
College is a great experience... just do not forget why you are here. Reading in your textbooks is a major bonus. Also, utilize your teacher/professor's office hours. (:
Great for these types of students
ULM is GREAT for all types of students! It is so diverse and there is always something for everybody!

This is a great school. People here look after you and they make sure that you are making your classes and getting the grades. There are many helpful things to offer here if you need help.
Tips for prospective students
We always tend to think the freshman year is gonna be the worst because we won't know anybody. Well they welcome you here very well. It's like everything is about the freshmen. You won't feel left out and you'll make new friends fast. Teachers are easy to communicate with and they will hep you. The advising is great, the staff here will not let you fall.
Academic Rigor
Advisors are always looking to help and you can also go to studyhall. There's also tutors available.
Dorm Life
The dorm life is great. You'll become friends with your roommate pretty fast. The RA's always have posters up for some activities that you can be involved in. You will not feel left out.
Food and Dining
The food here is great! It's beats the high school cafeteria food. You can eat whatever you want.
What to do for fun
You can go feed the turtles at lunch. They're so cute! They all come swimming up and fighting for food. I love it! You can also go kayaking. I was a little scared my first time going but it turned out to be awesome. There's always a sport event going on so that's a lot of fun. I also like to sit and watch the step shows. The greeks are interesting. You can also get involved in some sports for fun. When you go to the support a sport make sure you bring your talons.
Campus Safety
The police do their jobs very well. They're always patrolling and we even have emergency booths on the campus now. I think it's a very safe place.

ULM is a great environment to begin your journey of exploring what you want to do when you 'grow-up'. There are really great professors who want to see you succeed and provide you with all the necessary tools to do so. Lastly, ULM may be a smaller campus, but this is not a disadvantage, you feel closer to the student body, not just another face in the crowd.
Tips for prospective students
I would advise students that are looking into a university like ULM to check out what we offer. We offer a great variety of majors that can be applied in many different aspects of the career field, but we may not be the best college to attend if you want to do something more specialized. I would also advise future students to look into what other students have said about their experiences because those people have had real experience and can give you many GPA helpful tips!
Academic Rigor
ULM may not compare to a state institution, but we do have difficult classes, also. You do have to crack a book, pay attention in class, and actually go to class. Our classes our smaller and this can actually be a plus when you are in need of a little specialized attention to understand the material. The professors don't want you to fail, you get out of it what you put in.
Dorm Life
Many of the dorms are in disrepair and people do not take proper care of the spaces they live in. I would not immediately recommend living in the dorms unless it was Commons II, but even that dorm has its issues.
Food and Dining
Schulze Cafeteria has great tasting food most days! There's a nice variety, and always a good Fried Chicken Wednesday to look forward to! The staff is very welcoming with a nice environment to enjoy your meal in.
What to do for fun
For fun at ULM you could do many of the numerous possibilities available to you in the moderately sized city of Monroe! There are numerous sporting events that you could attend during the week, go out and support the Warhawks! You could possibly canoe on the beautiful Bayou Desiard. If you want to be active in the community, there are tons of clubs available at your fingertips for community reach-out! Also, during the week these clubs will host events to make things interesting and get you involved.
Bang for the buck
I love free/discounted food! There are plenty of ways to get your fix. Local religious/college chapters will host discounted lunch days to help the student body's pocketbook and to help fund their mission trips! Your money goes to a good cause! Also, right on campus is a Starbucks that will have discounted coffee many days of the semester!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
An unusual tradition we have at ULM is for Freshmen to run through the fountain in the Quad for good luck during their semester. A great place I love to gather my thoughts is the seventh floor terrace of the Library that looks out upon Bayou Desiard and half of the campus.
Clubs and Activities
There are plenty of organizations at ULM for everyone interested in anything ranging from community reach-out to political beliefs. Getting involved in a number of organizations will help you get better connected for your future and help you find great, relatable friends!
Campus Safety
Our campus police are always out and about and are never far away! We have Emergency Poles for better increased safety and the campus is relatively lit up after dark. I would still not advise going anywhere alone late at night because even with the best campus safety nothing is impossible.

ULM is not only full of amazing professors and students, but has majors that will suit everyone. It's affordable and credible- the classes are always interesting and worth the tuition. The campus is extraordinarily beautiful and centered conveniently in the middle of the city.
Tips for prospective students
Apply early! Don't forget to fill out your fasfa. Price match your books if you're getting them from the bookstore, or better yet- use the ULM bookswap facebook page. Take advantage of the library and staff, everyone is kind and willing to help. Don't be afraid to be yourself. Join clubs- or even better, start one.
Academic Rigor
It really depends on which classes, major, or teacher you choose. I had a biology class that was really easy, but then turned around and had a lab that was difficult. It varies, but overall it will challenge you!
Dorm Life
Personally, I love the dorms. Keep in mind that they are dorm rooms when you create your expectations. The best thing is that the students are friendly, my random roommate was wonderful, and the campus is so well planned and central that you can walk to anything you need. They've got a Starbucks on campus as well as a center with different food places, like Subway and Chick-Fil-A.
Food and Dining
The only reason I rated this lower was because of the hours of the cafeteria and SUB. It seems like every time I turned around they were closed for a holiday or closed early (they close every Friday at 2!) I'm fortunate enough to live close to Monroe, so during spring break and three-day weekends, I can go home and eat with my parents, so it wasn't so bad for me, mostly just inconvenient.
What to do for fun
I love to hang out with my friends, we watch movies in the dorm and get Starbucks. We love to go kayaking on the river, which is always a good work out but also fun and relaxing.
Bang for the buck
I feel like, for the affordable tuition price, the campus is beautiful and the courses are good. I feel like I'm being prepared for graduate school, and all of my professors really seemed like they wanted to help me get a good education and a prepare me for a job. I just wish the food was a bit better, and maybe a better internet connection in the dorm rooms.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
You have to go by Enoch's on a Tuesday. Grab a burger buddy and get BOGO (buy one get one free) on their burgers. They've got amazing food and it's a rite of passage for freshman (as long as you're over 18- they do check ID's!)
Great for these types of students
Honors kids- I'm an honor's student and the program is awesome. It's still fairly new, so every incoming class has a huge impact on how we work and what we do and stand for.

We're also awesome for anyone who likes water skiing. We've won the state championship for about three years now, I think.
Clubs and Activities
There are clubs for any and every interest. We have a great St. Jude's group that forms teams to raise money for the cause, and a Harry Potter club dedicated to volunteer work and charity. Overall, I think there are over 300 student recognized organizations.
Greek Life
I'm not personally involved with a fraternity or sorority, but I have plenty of friends who are and I know they love it. There are fraternities and sororities for every personality and interest, and I know a couple of chapters that were started within the last few years by students, so it's constantly growing.
Campus Safety
There are campus police parked and walking around all the time, as well as streetlights and emergency centers place throughout campus. If you're feeling unsafe, you can call campus police to walk with you back to your dorm. The officers are always super friendly and helpful, and they're dedicated to helping the students stay safe. If you're still feeling scared, try taking one of the self defense classes ULM offers. I took one last semester and it was amazing!

If you want to do pharmacy or chemistry this is definitely the school to attend. The teachers are excellent but the administration is not entirely on top of things. Like many places in Louisiana, it's who you know, not what you know; if you want to get something taken care of you'll have to be persistent.
Tips for prospective students
They're going to nail you with fees. Try and take advantage of all the extra services ULM offers because they're charging you for them either way. Go to class, study your hardest, and enjoy yourself. The campus is beautiful and full of friendly people.
Academic Rigor
Study. Seriously. Many of the teachers offer extra study sessions after class to help you prepare for tests. They care about how well you do and they are there to help.
Dorm Life
How good or bad your dorm experience is is really dependent more on who you end up rooming with. Some of the dorms are better than others, which is to be expected, but every dorm head will be trying their hardest to be there for you, and the game nights are a good way to make friends.
Food and Dining
The food is delicious, if a little over-seasoned, and the staff are friendly. There are a multitude of options other than the cafeteria which are great if you want to change things up. There is usually a fair amount of variety in the cafeteria, and if you aren't up for a hot meal, burgers and pizza are practically always available.
What to do for fun
There are plenty of events going on around campus and lots of clubs you can join. ULM very persistently encourages participation in events rather than staying cooped up in your dorm room. The area directly around ULM is not the best but if you get on the interstate there is a hub of shopping centers and restaurants about ten minutes away.
Bang for the buck
They're pricey but worth it. Try and get a scholarship if you can. You get the same level of education as LSU, but with more care of you as an individual and much, much smaller classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
It's been a while since I went but I distinctly remember something involving mud.
Great for these types of students
Biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, etc. There are many other classes available but this is where the most emphasis is placed. If you're willing to live out in Monroe it's more than worth it.
Clubs and Activities
There are a ton of clubs and activities to participate in, and you don't have to figure it out for yourself, the staff will encourage you to go to these and will tell you where they are and what time if you ask.
Campus Safety
Firstcall sends alerts to your cell phones; dorms, especially the girls' dorms, constantly monitor who is going in and out; and there are emergency phones placed all around campus. The police are right at the front of the campus, but in my time there I only ever saw them need to come out when traffic lights went down.
