Am learning a lot | The college courses that I am currently enrolled in make me try my best and learn all I can in them. The professors try to actually make the classes interesting so students will want to return. |
Am enjoying being here | I love being here. The atmosphere is appealing and the people are friendly:) |
Bang for the buck | Tuiton for MTSU is affordable for what you get. Along with the classes, tuition allows you to have a membership to the recreation center, access to the KUC's movie theater, and so much more! |
Tips for prospective students | Get involved! Being connected makes college so much more fun! |
Great for these types of students | If you like the city, but don't wanna live in a big city, this is perfect for you. It is a place that is close enough to a big city, but is located in a more suburban area. If you want to go out on the weekends, Nashville is just a short drive away. |

Am learning a lot | I feel that the General Education Curriculum has much variety of necessary and interesting course material. My professors in the first semester all did a wonderful job of conveying their subject and I really did learn alot about speeches, theatre and psychology - all things I have not experienced before! |
Am enjoying being here | I love MTSU! It truly has so much to offer, but you'll miss it if you don't utilize all the different services! From cheap outdoor trips to offices devoted to helping you write papers to language labs - MTSU has it all. It's a great music-oriented school with a great Recording Industry program, as well as Aerospace. I've made tons of friends through a dance company on campus and numerous intramurals! |
Bang for the buck | It's a very cheap school compared to a whole lot of other universities and MTSU is just as good. Most professors really care about your time here as well as all of the student services. You do pay a couple thousand dollars.. but you truly get a lot out of it! |
Tips for prospective students | MTSU should not be overlooked. Also, even though Murfreesboro seems like a small town, MTSU is huge - with over 25,000 students! One you here, you HAVE to get involved. Find something you enjoy and meet others with the same interests. Also, MTSU is not car-friendly. Parking is never fun, so living in a dorm will be very easy to navigate the campus. |
Great for these types of students | Wants Large School On a budget Aerospace Fashion Design Recording Industry Global Studies Mass Communication |

Am learning a lot | The professors make an effort to teach you things you don't already know from high school. The classes provide you with outside resources, like websites, where you can pick up more information about a certain field |
Am enjoying being here | Lots of things to do on campus (not so much in Murfreesboro in general). You could spend a whole day at the rec center and not finish the activities they have to offer. There are plenty of intramural and club sports like rugby, soccer, and ultimate frisbee. If you're not into sports, there are dance clubs, art clubs, environmental clubs and student government clubs. Also, there's a sporting event at least once every week to attend (free for students). |
Bang for the buck | Definitely. Well-equipped labs, a clean campus, a huge library, a huge rec center, world-recognized teachers and a quality education don't run cheap, but MTSU charges one of the lowest tuitions in the state. |
Tips for prospective students | Try not to walk in the middle of the street or parking lot. Stick to the sidewalks, edges, whatever. Unless you want to get hit by a bike. Also, get to know the professors, especially the ones that teach things related to your career goal. They'll be your connections for life. |
Great for these types of students | Anybody planning on taking a career in -Music industry -Athletic training/exercise science -Concrete management -Fashion |

Am learning a lot | Most of my professors are extremely knowledgeable in their topics. I think that MTSU has hired many well-educated professors who really know their stuff. I'm learning a lot from all of them, and I think I will continue to do so as I go further in my education. |
Am enjoying being here | I love going to MTSU. Most of the people are really nice, and the campus is really diverse. The campus is absolutely beautiful, and Murfreesboro is a pretty great town to live in. There are a lot of great on-campus organizations to get plugged into and there is plenty to get into off campus, both in Murfreesboro and in Nashville, which is only about 40 minutes away. |
Bang for the buck | MTSU has a pretty low in-state tuition, but it's a pretty top-notch education. I think I'm learning just as much as I would if I attended one of the more known state schools, like UTK, which cost a lot more. MTSU has tons of great professors and facilities, and you really get your money's worth when it comes to education and other things that are offered to you. (The rec center and parking are included in tuition prices!) Our out-of-state rates aren't outrageous either. |
Tips for prospective students | Live on campus your first year! It is absolutely a great way to meet people, and MTSU has several great housing locations. You'll feel like you are really a part of campus, and you have a greater chance of getting involved in things. Also, don't be afraid to ask your professors questions. Most of the professors at MTSU are really nice and will be beyond willing to help you. Lastly, get involved! MTSU has tons of organizations you can get involved in. No matter what you're into - MTSU has an organization for you! |
Great for these types of students | MTSU is great for all types of students. We're a pretty diverse school with different ages, races, religions, and fields of study. All types of people attend MTSU, and it's my opinion that all types fit in. There is a place on campus for everyone. |

Am learning a lot | I'm just a freshman, but I love all the diverse classes offered. |
Am enjoying being here | The atmosphere here is very laid back and it has beautiful buildings and outdoor seating areas where lots of the students hang out or study. |
Bang for the buck | The price is great! Plus there are lots of scholarships to help you out if you need them. |
Tips for prospective students | Make sure you check out the scholarships available before you become a freshman (and after). |

In three sentences | A large but not too large of a community. Plenty of opportunity to find or expand on the things you love. Skilled professors that really know and enjoy their field of knowledge. |
Tips for prospective students | If taking advantage of the online courses through this university, remember to devote enough time to it as you would a class that meets every day. They are very helpful and I would recommend them but it would benefit you if you even set up a time like an on campus class that you meet with your online course. Get to know every professor you have. You never know where they can help and how tightly they are connected to the top. That being said be sure to get input from other students and even check sites that rate professors before picking your courses. Use good judgment when it comes to course load and always remember summer school is a great option. |
Dorm Life | I did not live in a dorm but from stories and going ons around campus it seemed to be a good choice. |
Food and Dining | Can be a bit expensive without a meal plan but the choices along with how many convenient locations for either a quick snack or full meal make it a good area. |
What to do for fun | Their are plenty of things to do on and around campus. Clubs, club sports, and Greek life are the obvious but there is also entertainment from time to time and movies for a dollar in the theater. Various places in the community and campus organizations also put on events. |
Great for these types of students | -music -art -nursing -engineering -aerospace -Athletic Training/Exercise Science (BEST!!!) - Many other majors/ interests...and the advisers are very helpful and can even help you decide what is best for you! |
Clubs and Activities | I participate in the rugby club sport. There are numerous clubs and club sports available for everyone. It's a great way to make friends and come out of your shell. It prepares you for real world situations and also opens up opportunities for social events. You can even create your own club with enough support! |
Campus Safety | We have our own police force as well as its own telephone number. They offer an escort service to and from your car for night class, although I have taken a few and have not felt unsafe yet. The campus is always busy so chances are you'll be watched out for one way or another. |

Am learning a lot | Although there are a few bad professors, the professors I have had so far are wonderful. Many of them take the time to explain the details of the topic as well as be willing to take time to meet with you. Having that kind of experience, I learn so much. Just be sure to read and study. |
Am enjoying being here | Since Murfreesboro is my hometown, I had never thought that MTSU would be a good school to attend. But I was proven wrong for thinking so, after my first few days at MTSU. It may not be the prestigious school or the well-known school; however, altogether, the academics, student life, and opportunities that come with MTSU are wonderful. |
Bang for the buck | MTSU is not an expensive school. And if you're from the state of Tennessee, you may be eligible to knock off a chunk of the (in-state) tuition through the TN Lottery scholarship. The tuition pays for the neccessary funds of the courses--it is a reasonable amount, considering the prices of other schools. |
Tips for prospective students | Common College Advice: 1. If you can, avoid the bad professors. It'll make college life better. Check out the professor reviews on koofers.com. 2. Buy books online. They are much cheaper than at the bookstores. 3. Make friends. Get active with some of the extracurricular activities. It is good to have a study break; that's what makes college so much fun. |
Great for these types of students | MTSU is a very diversified school. It is also a very large school. So, it is very likely that anyone can find their niche of friends at MTSU. |

Am learning a lot | I'm in the music program and all the teachers are wonderful here! They are really encouraging and want you to enjoy learning. I'm also in the Honors college and all of my general education courses that I have been taking have been honors. The classes are a lot smaller from what I've heard about Honors vs. non-Honors classes. My professors in the Honors College have all been very caring about their students so far, and they all have had PhD (so they know what they are talking about). |
Am enjoying being here | I absolutely love the school and the town! I'm from a place about 35 minutes away from Murfreesboro so I am pretty familiar and comfortable with the area. There is some stuff to do off campus, and if you don't find anything interesting that you want to do there (or on campus... there is a movie theater on campus for $2 a ticket!) then Nashville is only about 35 minutes away from Murfreesboro! The violence rate this semester has been increasing from last semester. But MTSU is VERY good at spreading the word of ANY violent act that could be a threat to the students. It's one of the safest schools in Tennessee because we have our own police force (on top of the Murfreesboro police force!). Over all I am enjoying MTSU very much! |
Bang for the buck | It's one of the cheapest schools in TN for sure! They only school that I looked at that was cheaper was Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. My music theory teacher gave us a chart to compare the music theory class at MTSU (which is about $16 per lecture) and the same music theory class at Vanderbilt (which is about $75 per lecture if I remember right... It could've been more). You can see the obvious difference for the same classes. Plus music students from MTSU have gone on to North Texas University (one of THE music schools in the nation!!!) and have been exempted from theory there because of the amazing (and cheap!) theory teachers at MTSU! |
Tips for prospective students | If you are applying for MTSU, make sure you get everything in ON TIME or EARLY. (I would suggest early!!!) Sometimes (with 20,000 students on campus) things can get a little hectic and if you apply later, your stuff can get lost. I hate to say this about my future alma mater, and I love MTSU dearly, but I know many students (myself included) who have had issues with one thing or another there. If you are like me and don't want to walk into the offices and talk to people, JUST DO IT. They can ignore emails and maybe even phone calls (although I don't think they do either, there are probably just so many that your's COULD get lost), but they CANNOT ignore you if you walk in and talk to them calmly (and politely!) what you are having an issue with. :) If you are nice to them, they are going to want to help you more. That's just advice for life, not just at MTSU! One last thing! MTSU has the highest number of required courses (also known as your general education courses). So just be prepared for taking more classes than your friends at different colleges! |
Great for these types of students | It's a wonderful school for music people! They have a GREAT music program! If I may say so, it's the best in the state of Tennessee! The Honors Program is great! It has wonderful professors and a great building (although it's kind of far from the center of campus). MTSU started off as a teacher college. The new education building is having the finishing touches put on it as we speak. There should also be a new parking garage in a few years and by the end of the fall 2011 semester (I think) the new Student Union will be finished! So students looking for the old and the new both encompasses in a campus should look no further than MTSU! |

Am learning a lot | Some of the course are esay but others challenge you. For me the course that gives you a hard time is the course you will come out knowing more about once you graduate. |
Am enjoying being here | Middle Tennessee State University is a good environment to be at. The one thing that I like about going to college here is that you can start you own club. |
Tips for prospective students | Do your housing application early. If you do not you will not like the dorm your are going to stay in. Make sure you keep up with all the deadline. Make sure you keep a planner it is going to become your bestfriend. It is going to help you keep up with everything. |
Great for these types of students | Use your money wisely |

Am learning a lot | I feel like I am learning a lot, in a party environment, coming from a big city, Murfreesboro keeps you grounded on the foundation of working hard. |
Am enjoying being here | I enjoy being here, not only for school, but for the fact of the students being so open and nice. In Tennessee there's a thing called southern comfort and we openly give it to everyone who is on our campus. |
Bang for the buck | The academics are some of the best in the country seeing as we're ranked #47 in public colleges for 2010-2011. I feel that there is so much offered that is free here, but cost at other colleges. Free printing and other services on campus, who could not love that? |
Tips for prospective students | Bring your A game, because everyone here is inspired to work hard. We are all proud to be Blue Raiders and want to go out with a bang. Do not be afraid to ask for help because majority of everyone is open to helping. |
Great for these types of students | It's great for any type of students because there is a lot of openness on campus. So many different varieties of people that you will find somewhere to fit in regardless. |
