The quality of the education and professors at Marquette University is excellent. All of my professors last year were extremely knowledgeable and besides teaching the curriculum, they also taught life lessons and gave advice.
Am enjoying being here
I live six hours away from Milwuakee but after attending my first year at Marquette, I feel like Milwaukee and the Marquette campus is my new home. I did not know a sinlge person going to Marquette my freshman year but the second I stepped foot on campus I began meeting people. Everyone on campus is so nice and friendly. All of my new college friends enhanced my college experience. Furthermore, there is nothing more exciting and fun than a Marquette University basketball game. Everyone who attends Marquette University loves it and they're not afraid to show it. No matter where you walk on campus, you will see students wearing their bright gold Golden Eagles' attire.
Bang for the buck
Although the tuition is pretty steep, it is totally worth it. Of course it is more expensive than state schools because it is a private, Catholic university. Marquette University realizes that the tuition is pricey and they help their students afford their education. Furthermore, you are paying for the quality of the education and professors. Honestly, the experience and education provided at Marquette University is priceless.
Tips for prospective students
The most important piece of information is to visit the schools you are interested in. A school can look completely different on a page and in person. When you walk through the campus of the school you will attend, you will just feel like it is home and you will know it is the school for you. Also, when you visit the different schools, plan a campus tour. The tours are given by current students who will show you around, explain the history of the school, provide advice, and answer all of your questions. After you tour the campus, be sure to walk around and talk to random students strolling through campus. These students can provide different points of views and answer any other questions. They will not be scared to tell you the truth.
Great for these types of students
Marquette University is perfect for students who are serious about their education. During the week everyone attends class and spends countless hours studying at the library while they sip their coffee. It can be quite competitive in terms of academics. Yet, once Friday rolls around, the students are stress-free and ready to have fun. Since the campus is in downtown Milwaukee, there is always something to do in the city or on campus. Marquette is also great for students looking for a medium-size school. The classes are similar to the size of high school classes so professors know your name and are always there to help or simply talk. For those students who are sports fans, welcome to Marquette Golden Eagles! Marquette basketball, soccer, and volleyball are the big sports on campus. When basketball season rolls around, the whole campus is on fire. It is impossible to describe an experience at a men's basketball game, but I will try. The arena is packed with die-hard fans, sporting their navy and gold gear, cheering and singing the Marquette fight song. Just visit the Marquette University campus and you will understand why everyone who attends Marquette loves it.

Going into my first year of college I was worried I wouldn't be fully prepared for the academic side of school. But when I got there that fear went straight out of my mind. All of my professors were extremely helpful in the transition from high school to college life. The courses were not easy and I had to work hard, but through working hard on my own and with the professors, who really make themselves available to their students, I was able to understand all of the advanced concepts they were teaching in class. I felt so much more intelligent returning home after my first semester. I was able to engage in actual adult conversations with my parents and their friends because I was well informed and understood what was going on. It was an incredible feeling and I don't know how I could have lived without it for so long.
Am enjoying being here
I honestly struggled when I first got to Marquette to make friends. I was shy and unlike most of the students I was from a small public school in the middle of Kentucky, I was worried I wouldn't fit in. But when I finally stepped outside of my comfort zone I met some of the most amazing people who I know will be my friends for life. Besides all the wonderful people and staff, the campus itself is beautiful. Milwaukee is a great city for a university. The city is the perfect size which gives the feeling of a close-knit tie to the community and a feeling of being safe in your surroundings. Another selling point is even though you are in a city, when you are in the middle of campus you can't even tell. You can not hear the hustle of the city standing in the middle of the academic buildings, which is wonderful when your trying to study out on the grass on one of those beautiful Wisconsin days. I love Marquette, I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else.
Bang for the buck
Being completely honest Marquette is an expensive school and I do struggle to pay every semester to continue to attend but for the connections made with students and professors it is absolutely worth it. You learn so much and meet so many people you are definitely getting your bang for the buck.
Tips for prospective students
Go for a campus visit! You'll know right then whether or not Marquette is the school for you.
Great for these types of students
Marquette is great for all types of students. Students who are social will certainly florish here, but so will students who normally keep to themselves. There are many opportunities for students who enjoy community service work as well because of the city setting. Marquette is not for a student wanting a closed campus, because we are in the middle of Milwaukee spreading from 10th down to about 19th Street. And even though the undergraduate level can be considered large, the class sizes are small and you are not just a number.

My classes are excellent and I am learning so much in a relatively short period of time. The material covered in the classes is challenging as well as engaging. The classes that are specific to my major have been really interesting and have kept me excited to go to class and learn. Further, the classes required by the Core of Common Studies, such as English, theology, and philosophy, have allowed me to learn more about many different topics, cultures, and societies and have taught me how to relate to others at a higher level. After only my first semester, I feel that I have become a very well rounded individual through my education at Marquette thus far. Not only am I learning an immense amount in my lectures, but the learning has also gone beyond the classroom. Marquette makes service an important part of your learning experience. There are so many opportunities to volunteer through your classes and through the Office of Student Development. Through doing service in the community, I have learned firsthand about the poverty present in Milwaukee and how I can make a positive difference.
Am enjoying being here
I am not only enjoying Marquette, I love it. The class sizes are perfect. As a freshman, my smallest class (ENG 1001) had 20 students. It was amazing because I was able to get to know everyone in my class and it fostered an excellent learning environment. My general chemistry class (CHEM 1001) had the most students, with about 250 enrolled. However, I was able to get to know all of my professors regardless of the class size. The professors at Marquette are great about giving you extra help if you express that you would like some. I am able to e-mail my professors and set up appointments to meet with them to review and clear-up confusing material. Additionally, Marquette is big enough that you do not know everyone, but small enough that you see familiar faces often. Before I started at Marquette, I was really worried about making friends and meeting new people. However, the orientation I attended when I first arrived at Marquette made it very easy. By the end of the first night of orientation, I had made so many friends and actually met my three current best friends at the university. Furthermore, there are countless activities to get involved in outside of the classroom that will help you meet other students with similar interests. From volunteering to intramural sports teams, Marquette has about every club or organization you can imagine. I belong to three different organizations, am a member of STAR (students taking active roles), and am a leader on the Hunger Clean-Up Public Relations Committee. Also, I volunteer and have a part-time job. Marquette really makes an effort to give you the opportunities you need to be successful after graduating and if you take advantage of them, you will be well on your way to achieving your aspirations.
Bang for the buck
Although Marquette is a very expensive school, it is worth every penny. If you work hard in high school and receive different scholarships, you can keep the cost comparable to a public college. Since it is a private school, the education overall is of the highest quality. Basically, you get what you pay for. I went to a public high school and the education at Marquette is so much better. The professors care more because you are paying their salary. Furthermore, you receive a U-Pass with your tuition and this allows you to explore many parts of Milwaukee. I have found it very useful and it has saved me quite a bit of money. Further, there are many free events to attend, such as Late Night Marquette, that gives you an opportunity to hang out with friends and do different activities like tie-dying t-shirts or carving pumpkins.
Tips for prospective students
I suggest that prospective students sign-up to attend a shadow day at Marquette. A shadow experience will allow you to get a good feel of the school and will let you see if you feel comfortable with the classes (material, size, style) and overall campus environment. I was completely set on going to the University of Wisconsin Madison; however, I then shadowed a student and realized that Madison was not the place for me with the large class sizes and impersonal qualities of the University. Now I am at Marquette and love it because it is personal, not too big or small, and has endless opportunities. Further, talk to current students and ask questions. The university has set-up different facebook groups for prospective students to ask questions and get real answers. Lastly, talk to advisors about majors and classes. Make sure Marquette has good opportunities for your career choice and interests.
Great for these types of students
If you like to be able to ask questions and meet with your professors, Marquette is the place for you. You are by no means a number at a Marquette. The university treats every student as a individual and the staff will do everything they can to help you make decisions and succeed. Marquette is a place where students have the opportunity to get involved on campus and make their college experience unique. The classes are challenging and you have to be willing to study, but if you put in the time and effort, you will love Marquette.

I have just completed the first semester of my freshman year and am amazed by how much I have learned, both inside and outside the classroom. High school prepared me well for the challenging courses, but at Marquette, everything came full circle. I was able to connect facts from Biology to formulas learned in Chemistry and relate information from Theology to dates I had learned in high school history courses. There are so many course options, opportunities to study abroad (which many upperclassmen recommend- learning about another culture first-hand is a plus!), and participate in research with faculty. The professors are willing to help, whether it is during their office hours or after class.
Am enjoying being here
After visiting Marquette for the first time, I knew that it was the right school for me. Campus is downtown Milwaukee- which is very exciting- but when I am walking to class near the beautiful chapel, flower garden, and huge green space, I don't even realize that I am in the city. I have met so many unique people and had many exciting experiences. There is always something going on, whether its a basketball game at the Bradley Center, a scavenger hunt around the city of Milwaukee with friends from your dorm, Marquette's own version of Iron Chef, or a pick-up game of soccer, Frisbee, or football wherever there's room. As a sophomore, I hope to work as a campus tour guide in order to show others all that Marquette has to offer. I truly feel at home. We are Marquette!
Bang for the buck
Marquette is a private university, which does make it more expensive than a private school. Remember to file the FAFSA, which can help you qualify for grants or student loans. There are also many private scholarships available, both on the Marquette website and in your local community. Make a list of high school extracurriculars, academics, and volunteer work to make this process easier. The buildings on campus are all very nice and the dorm rooms are very well kept. The food in the dining halls, coffee shops, and Marquette Place, which features sushi, submarine sandwiches, a made-to-order burger restaurant, salads, bagels, and burritos, is very good. Many Milwaukee organizations and business support Marquette, and it seems like there is always an opportunity for a free t-shirt or notepad. The opportunities provided make the price tag well worth it.
Tips for prospective students
Participate in as many activities as possible, especially during the days of freshman orientation! There is an opportunity to take a riverboat cruise, attend a Brewer game, learn how to salsa, play capture the flag at midnight, and go to a square dance. You get paired up with a partner and attend the dance together- it was a lot of fun! Join a group focusing on your major, play intramural sports, or volunteer. Just remember not to overload on activities before you know what you have time for. Most importantly, find a favorite place to study, such as the library, coffee shop, or academic building (Cudahy Hall is good). That will come in handy if you find that it's hard to concentrate in your dorm room.
Great for these types of students
Make sure that you would be comfortable in an urban environment- the city of Milwaukee does have a population of more than 600,000. Students feel very safe on campus thanks to the blue light phones that allow you to call for emergency or non-emergency assistance (whenever you stand at a blue light, you should be able to see another), Public Safety officers, LIMOS (vans that transport students from one campus location to the next during night hours), and student safety officers walking in groups of two that can escort you to your destination. Be prepared to have a great time at Marquette! You will be well prepared for your future career.

The education here at Marquette is outstanding! The professors are very organized and will tell you the first day of class what is expected throughout the semester and what it will take to earn that A. Every professor has office hours during which you can go in, chit chat, get homework help, or a better understanding of lecture material. Many professors go where students study just to talk with them or help them with anything they need. The atmosphere and the faculty and staff is what made me want to come to Marquette!
Am enjoying being here
I have never met a person who came to Marquette and was not absolutely in love with this school! Being in downtown Milwaukee, this campus is surrounded by great places to go with friends and family, and the students are always ready to have a good time when the time comes! The Eagle Ballroom is a couple blocks away which makes it super easy to go to a great concert any given weekend. Summers in Milwaukee are also great because of Summerfest, Brewers games (even though I'm a die-hard Cubs fan!), and the museums, only a short bus ride away. Anyone who's a sports fan will enjoy Marquette come basketball time! The students take over Bradley Center and really show their school pride throughout the whole game, win or lose! The whole campus is a family!
Bang for the buck
The tuition is STEEP! But it is very much worth it. The education you receive here will teach you leadership, professionalism, and provide you with so many opportunities as you grow as student.
Tips for prospective students
Some tips for incoming and prospective students is to apply for scholarships before you come here! Many scholarships available to incoming/prospective students are renewing scholarships, meaning you won't ever have to apply for them again! It can really lift a burden from your shoulders (and your parents!) if you receive any.
Another tip I have to get involved early! There is an event called O-Fest in the beginning of the fall where all the student organizations go on campus to recruit you! Get involved with as many as you can, believe me, you will have time your freshmen year! As you get older, you can decide which organizations mean the most to you and stick with them.
Get out and enjoy the city! You get a free U-Pass as a full-time student which gives you free public transportation. Explore Milwaukee!
Great for these types of students
Marquette is great for any student who really wants to get a great education and also have fun. It's size is just right for someone wanting to enjoy great big opportunities, yet small enough that the professors will remember your name. Marquette has a diverse course of studies and is constantly trying to grow!

Marquette has a very nice atmosphere that makes it feel like a small school but is big enough to be social. The academic rigor is high, I would recommend it to all health science majors. The opportunities here are endless and the school is very well connected with the surrounding community.
Tips for prospective students
Make sure you visit before you apply, it will help you make your final decision easier. Shadow a student (go on the website must be 3 weeks in advance). Be yourself and find the school that reflects you best.
Academic Rigor
The academics are overall pretty difficult. I happen to have a difficult major but it really does depend on your major. I would say overall that the academic are the perfect difficulty and the teachers will help you if you reach out for assistance, it is fast paced and it takes time to get used to as a freshman.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is great here. Most dorms are very nice and the community is very close in the dorms. We often have social gatherings and parties together when we need a break from studying. It is a safe environment and really becomes a second home.
Food and Dining
Great food choices! The dining hall choices are very extensive. You have an unlimited meal plan which is very convenient and many options (50s diner, Cafe Italino, Classic Dining Hall, Einstein bagels, etc.)
What to do for fun
You can go to either one of the rec centers for exercise classes. Late night Marquette has free events all year round. There are school sponsored trips. Two big malls are located about 20 min away, the beach is 4 miles away, you can explore downtown, or just have a little social gathering with friends.
Bang for the buck
Yes, Marquette is a private university and can be pretty pricey but overall I think it is worth it. If you have good grades you can get scholarships, look out for alumni scholarships and outside scholarships to help you out.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
City-wide scavenger hunt, our green spaces have wierd names (central mall and westowne square). We have a campus turkey (unofficial mascot)
Great for these types of students
Great for students that want a balance between academics and a social life. Great Physical Therapy Program and Engineering Program! If you are considering PA look into applying in to the Marquette Physician's Assistant Program early.
Clubs and Activities
There is a club for just about anything you like to do. If there isn't one (rare) you can make one. Intermurals and club sports are fun activities that you can do without varsity commitment.
Greek Life
Greek life is pretty big at Marquette. If thats something you are interested in go for it. Each one has a charity and activitely contributes to the Marquette community.
Campus Safety
Overall, I would say Marquette is safe. I wouldn't recommend walking around alone late at night. There are security cameras installed everywhere, LIMO service that can pick you up and take you where you need to go, blue lights that you can press if you feel uncomfortable the public safety people will come to you within a few seconds.

Marquette is a well-rounded university and it is a joy to go here. I know at MU, I will get a great education and become a better person as a whole. They have all the qualities I was looking for, and more!
Tips for prospective students
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reputable university that is small enough to receive the attention desired, but large enough to feel like a part of something bigger. Don't rule it out because you think it might be a certain way, or feel a certain way, its a great school that you should definitely look into!
Academic Rigor
The academic scale is tricky and you need to get a 93% or higher to get an A, but if you work hard enough and get to know your professors and study, you can definitely do it. On the other side of the diploma, you will be well respected with a good GPA.
Dorm Life
As a transfer student, I didn't go to school, therefore live in a dorm, at MU my first semester, so living in a quiet dorm kind of limits my capability to reach other people. But the RAs and the staff working there are all super friendly!
Food and Dining
The hours for the dining halls are a little annoying, but once you get used to it, its pretty good. The food itself is good at certain spots for certain types of meals. One place for breakfast, another for lunch, and so on.
What to do for fun
Plenty of clubs and organizations to become a part of! I'm in an a capella group, The Meladies, and on the ultimate frisbee team. I'm not in a sorority but if they are what you are looking for then its great! Fun basketball games and obviously good parties!
Bang for the buck
Very costly, but a great education and a great time while you're there makes it very worth it!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
They bring puppies into the AMU during midterms and finals weeks and they're great! There is a great burger joint on campus called Sobelman's and its super good!
Clubs and Activities
So many things to get involved with and become a part of! I suggest to anyone to get involved with a bunch of stuff.
Campus Safety
Campus safety is super great and they are always there for whatever you need. Blue light phones are really close on campus if you ever need them.

Be open to attending the Late Night Marquette activities and trying new things. College will be more enjoyable for you if you go out to meet new people while ice skating, playing bingo, or attending casino night. Milwaukee has endless possibilities for fun activities.
Academic Rigor
Classes are fast-paced, but if you know your own study habits and keep up with the assignments, you will not be disappointed with your grades. Also, getting to know your professors helps a lot because they can clarify the information you may have missed during lecture.
Dorm Life
The room depends on which building you live in, but no matter which dorm you choose, you are able to find your community. Everyone is really nice and it is fun to live with your friends.
Food and Dining
There is a ton of variety in each of the dining halls at Marquette. You will be able to find something you like to eat.
What to do for fun
Joining clubs allows you to meet new people and participate in activities that you enjoy. Marquette also organizes Late Night events for the weekends so students can try fun activities like bingo or skating to take a break from their studies.
Bang for the buck
It is true that Marquette is very expensive, but you get to attend a wonderful school where everyone cares about your choices and are willing to help you through your experience, where you develop not only as a student but as a human being, and your studies really prepare you for your future. I think it is so worth it.
Clubs and Activities
Marquette has a great variety of clubs for students to join and everyone is able to find the perfect one for them. During O-Fest (Organization fest), we are able to sign up for any and all of the activities we are interested in and become a part of the Marquette community.
Campus Safety
Campus safety is always around to keep us safe. In order to not wander around campus alone, Marquette provides Campus Safety LIMO's which are vans driven by Campus safety that drive students across campus at any point in the night. It is easy to feel safe while on campus at Marquette.

What you get out of Marquette is really all about what you want. It has something for everyone, all it takes is finding your place (which is what college is all about, am I right?). Whatever your interest is, be it performing arts, sports, academics, clubs and organizations, or just meeting new people and doing new things, you will find all that and more here.
Tips for prospective students
If you are considering attending this school, go look at it and take a tour! That is when you will truly know if it is the one for you. Know that Marquette is a beautiful campus, the coursework is academically challenging, the city of Milwaukee has plenty to explore, and the student body has a family-like feel. You'll know if it's for you when you visit!
Academic Rigor
Marquette's classes in general are demanding. They are rigorous enough that they are challenging, but in no way are they impossible. Hard work goes a long way here!
Dorm Life
If you are matched with the type of community that serves you best, you will surely enjoy dorm life! There are floors specialized for certain students in each major, such as engineering, nursing, and performing arts; as well as for students in the honors program, and the Community Service program.
Food and Dining
As far as options go, you have many! Marquette has an Italian Bistro, sub shop, burrito bar, salad bar, Einstein bagels, sushi bar, 50's style diner, numerous coffee shops, as well as more traditional dining options. The only con is that the plan is pretty expensive.
What to do for fun
There are a number of things to do on campus as well as throughout the city. Late Nite Marquette organizes events for students, such as life-size battleship, outdoor movies, and other various activities. Do not forget about watching our sports teams, especially BASKETBALL. Off-campus you can go to concerts at nearby venues such as The Pabst, The Rave, or The Riverside. Exploring new restaurants, parks, and shops is always fun too!
Bang for the buck
It's no secret that nearly all private schools are expensive. Marquette awards scholarships that help immensely. As far as getting your money's worth, you most definitely do. Technology is updated, class sizes are small, and coursework is applicable and current.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There is the Joan of Arc chapel on campus, which was moved there from France. Inside there is a stone, that Joan kissed, which is colder than the other stones. As far as traditions, the sea of gold walking to the Bradley Center on Basketball game-days is pretty incredible.
Great for these types of students
If you want to succeed here, or really anywhere, you are going to have to work. Marquette is for those with a goal in mind, and are willing to work to get to it. Although the work loads vary with each major, from communications to engineering, you will have to pick up a book and study at some point
Clubs and Activities
Whatever you're interested in, I'm sure they have a club for it here. And if not, it's very easy to start one up! We have sports at all levels, from Division 1, to club sports, to intramural sports.
Greek Life
People who are involved in Greek life seem to love it! But if that is not your thing, don't worry, they aren't a huge part of Marquette's student life.
Campus Safety
Safety is a priority at Marquette. Any student can call Department of Public Safety if they need an escort to walk them somewhere on campus or in the nearby area. There is always a blue light phone in sight, which at the push of a button you are speaking with an officer. In the evenings, students can call a LIMO (which is a van, misleading, I know) which will pick them up and drive him within the campus' surrounding area.
