Tuition, Cost & Aid

Affordability and Cost

Average Net Price Average net price for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates paying the in-state or in-district tuition rate who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, or the institution. Other sources of grant aid are excluded. Aid awarded anytime during the full aid year is included.

Average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies and the weighted average room and board and other expenses.

Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

What Students Are Saying

Compared to a LOT of colleges I was looking at, ETSU was definitely the cheapest. And I feel that I'm getting a wonderful education.
Samantha from New Market, TN
I've gone all four semesters debt free. If you are proactive with your FAFSA and stay in contact with financial aid/ stay on top of all opportunities, you will be OK. There are tons of ways to pay for your tuition and if you're willing to work hard and keep your grades up, ETSU will be very rewarding to you.
Laura from Johnson City, TN
Especially for out of state students, the pricing is very steep. However, there are so many activities provided for free to the students that I see it as being worth the price. There are also tons of scholarships that the school provides both to in and out of state students.
Amy from Wernersville, PA
Paying out of state tuition is pretty high and increasing but for the price is decent for the local students compared to other state schools. Different types of scholarship are available so apply early.
Russell from Carson City, Nevada
Being an in-state student my tuition including my dorm and fees is a little over five thousand, which, compared to the other schools I was considering, is so much cheaper. You get the same things, if not more, as other schools in the area. It is a great school with spectacular academics and opportunities.
