How are you enjoying your time at this college?
It is alright! It isn't a typical university and is really catered towards commuters and working individuals. I personally enjoy that the university is like this, as it gives you a chance to connect with individuals who could already be working in the field you aspire to be in.
How would you describe the food and dining options?
We have a dining hall, and it isn't terrible. We are lucky to have a Chick Fil A, Starbucks, and a couple little shops on campus. The options available are very average.

Am learning a lot | Cleveland State has proved to me that you do not need to go to an Ivy League School to be challenged. When Cleveland State says that their students experience engaged learning, they really are telling the truth. The professors really want you to understand what they are teaching, which I personally enjoy. |
Am enjoying being here | Cleveland State has many activities to be involved in, from Student Government to recreational sports. Every Wednesday, CAB (the Campus Activities Board) usually has free giveaways, ranging from food to mugs. The campus even sends emails about events happening on or around campus. I am happy that as a student, I can get into athletic events for free. Also, downtown Cleveland is a great place to be because there is always something to do. With my Viking card, I can get discounts to activities happening around the city. |
Bang for the buck | I am in the Honors Program, which pays full tuition, class fees, and books. The Honors Program only requires that you keep a 3.5 GPA. This really helps my family financially. The only payment needed to pay is room and board. Also, Cleveland State has the second-lowest tuition rate of all the universities of Ohio, which is relieving. |
Tips for prospective students | If you decide on Cleveland State, prepare to get a preview of the real world. From seeing different types of cultures, to having to make my own decisions, Cleveland State has helped me to become more of an adult than when I was before I started college. Do not expect to see the same kind of attitudes in college as you saw in high school. |
Great for these types of students | Cleveland State would be great for students who: -love big cities, -want to experience diversity, -are serious about academics, and -like to save money! |

Am learning a lot | All right all of you incoming freshmen, listen up! Cleveland State University is a GREAT school. I am shocked at how much effort is put into helping out the students. This is only my second year in college, however, the professors that I have had so far have all been amazing. I feel that everyday I'm getting close with the faculty which is great because I can one day become a colleague of theirs. (Which would be a great.) Of course, some classes are much harder than others and a lot of work has to be put in in order to make the grade, but to work hard and have it all pay off is definitely worth it. There is always a lot of material to learn, but just keep focused and you'll come out on top. |
Am enjoying being here | Everything here from the campus activities, to the food, to the sports, to the classes equals one thing - stellar. Growing up in a town close to Cleveland pushed me away from going to the school. However, I decided to apply due to their accredited engineering program. I am glad I decided to apply here. Not only was the application process not intimidating, but the transition from high school to the college lifestyle was much smoother due to the help they give. There are so many opportunities to be yourself and to meet new people, giving you a chance to make lifelong friends and create lifelong passions. It also helps that the campus and people are all very diverse. Everyday brings something new to the table. |
Bang for the buck | Other than the school having a great learning environment, it has a lower tuition than most schools out there. While this wasn't the main factor that pulled me into the school, it definitely helps that you and your family won't have to worry as much about getting money for school. On top of that, the scholarships that are available are abundant. One word of advice with all of the scholarships though - APPLY EARLY! Being early with things, especially when it comes to academics, is one of the best things to do. |
Tips for prospective students | Like stated above, APPLY EARLY for scholarships and to the Honors/Scholars program. I am in the Scholars program and they have lots of counseling and advice available if needed. Just remember this, the faculty at Cleveland State University is ready to help YOU. If any of you have questions, just e-mail/message me and I'll try to help out as best as I can. Good luck with everything! |
Great for these types of students | -City-lovers -Adventure-lovers -Commuters -Those who want to be close to home Another thing to remember about college - you get out of it what you put in. You make the experience. |

Will learn a lot | The campus is beautiful and the guidance office and counselors are so helpful. All of my AP credits transferred and going into my first year of college, I already have enough credits to be counted as a Sophomore! It's a wonderful school and I'm so confident in my ability to do well and still have a great education! |
Will enjoy being here | It is so beautiful here, the district is nice, the campus is clean and very professional. There are multiple police forces ready to assist students. I feel very safe, as a 95 pound and 5 foot tall white girl, to be going to a school in downtown Cleveland. |
Bang for the buck | While I am commuting, I find the tuition very appealing. Most financial aid will cover the cost of tuition and the payment plans are easy to follow and affordable. |
Great for these types of students | It's great for students who can't afford Ivy League schools but still are looking for a nice college to study at. The campus is wonderful, either for commuting or dorming students. It offers a variety of Majors and Minors and the staff is so welcoming. |

Am learning a lot | While CSU may not be the most widely talked about school, what it lacks in notoriety, it gains in education. While I am only going into my sophomore year, my first year has had so many engaging professors, all willing to help each student gain knowledge and grow. Most professors seemed to really care, and many pushed me to think in ways I never would have before. On top of that, being an athlete, all of the teachers were incredibly willing to accommodate to my schedule and help me learn the most I could with my time restrictions. |
Am enjoying being here | One thing I love about CSU is how incredibly open all the students are to one another. With so many clubs and sports teams, it is easy to find a group of people who share the same likes as you. A very diverse place to be, and just outside of downtown, there is always something going on. Cleveland has a variety of people, all looking for a fulfilling education and a fun time. I wouldn't go to any other school. |
Bang for the buck | The great thing about Cleveland is how much you get for the little you pay. The education is great, filled with professors who really care. On top of that, the amount of food you get is a great perk! The dorms are probably the nicest you could imagine, with a lot of space. It seems like CSU has some of the nicest facilities while you don't pay as much as you would for other colleges. On top of that, Cleveland offers a plethora of scholarships for those who can't afford it! |
Tips for prospective students | Don't be afraid to ask questions! When you go on your college visit, ask students who go there what their opinion is. They will give you the real details, telling you where to go for a good bite, where you can meet a lot of friends, which teachers to avoid, which teachers to aim for, where to get extra help, etc. Those personal questions are ones you need to ask to see if the college is right for you! |
Great for these types of students | CSU is a great place for students who want a standout education, to be involved in a close knit community of people, and who want to have a good time. |

Am learning a lot | I love the professors i had this past semester. Each class was exciting and engaging. There was never a dual moment. When i had questions they were answered. |
Am enjoying being here | The campus is amazing. For me, it was a culture shock coming form a small town, but it teaches and challenges one in in a very exciting way. |
Bang for the buck | For those planning to live on campus, its a truly amazing experiance. There's always something going on somewhere from Glow in the Dark parties in the Rec to breakfast at night during finals week. In the classroom I felt that my professors wanted each student to succeed and for the most part they knew me by name, although its a huge school. |

In three sentences | Cleveland State University is Full of opportunity and people who want you to succeed. CSU has so many student Clubs and activities going on that you may wonder if attend fun events might be a class. CSU also has wickedly awesome discounts with local museums and theaters, getting students into the best seats and places for very nominal prices, if not for free. |
Tips for prospective students | When you come, research the type of college you're going to enroll in, Monte Ahuja College of Business, College of Science, etc and see what opportunities await you in your field. The professors here are very good and will go the distance in providing opportunities to students who show they really want to succeed. |
Academic Rigor | As the classes enter the 300 range and above, you'll feel as if you are in ph. D classes. It's goof though. The teachers provide so many different resources to learn, the only thing that hamper your success is you. |
Dorm Life | Dorm life is FUN! Your friends are always around you, parties are right down the hall and the bills are paid inadvance...HOWEVER! Some of the dorms, I feel are a bit over priced and depending on which dorm you chose (for we have MANY OPTIONS), you may be sharing your room with another student, which is ok, though for the price, I think a bit more privacy is good. In my dorm room actually, it was just myself and my girlfriend <3 . The heating was excellent and whenever anything was broken or not working right, they were there to fix it almost immediately. CSU prides itself on having safe, functional dorms. Good stuff. BWARE: If you do house in the dorm, they will automatically add you to the meal plan... |
Food and Dining | You can eat at the school cafeteria if you wish. They are pretty festive and it's a fun convenient place to eat, meet your friends and enjoy the company of new friends. |
What to do for fun | What is there not to do? The Campus Activities Board (CAB) has all kinds of events, from Glow in the Dark Golf, to Movie nights ranging from Romantic Films (Twilight) to Family Fun Movies (Toy Story III). We also have so many different Clubs at CSU and sources to support them that there is usually always something going on! We have plays at the local theatre and are situated right down town in the heart beat of Theatre Culture. |
Bang for the buck | Being a Student gets you $15.00 FRONT ROW tickets to the Hannah Theatre, FREE ADMISSION to the Botanical Gardens and the Natural History Museum as well as discounted admission to other museums and theaters. Not to mention all of the FREE TICKETS that students get tossed at them via the Student Life Department. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Unusual? The Unusual is usual around here. Hahaha. Nothing is really considered unusual. I'm the President of the Chinese Club, and much to the chagrin to everyone who finds out, I don't fit the stereotype. We've had a Gay/Lesbian fashion show, two I believe. We are a pretty open college. If you have the power and desire to do something good, do it and people will join you. |
Great for these types of students | Students who like to DO STUFF, hang with friends, become great Leaders and LEARN will most likely have a GREAT time at CSU. |
Clubs and Activities | We have HUNDREDS of clubs! From the Chinese Club (I'm the President of it, by the way), to the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) to the Anime Club, to the Tango Club, to the Universal Martial Artist Club. We are an all encompassing school. If you have an interest in something, there's probably a club doing it. And if not, you can start it! |
Greek Life | GREEK LIFE is Big. They have so many bloody parties, wow. |
Campus Safety | Campus safety is ALL AROUND! When walking through the hall from one part of the college to another, you'll probably run into several officers. They're nice, kind and very helpful. We even have a safety escort service that will escort you whenever you want, wherever you want on campus. If something occurs, the police, video camera's and other protective services are on it to take care of the situation pronto, making sure that every one is ok. This in mind, be aware that this college is located downtown, with all different types of people and YOU are your first line of defense. Be aware of your surroundings, the people around you and walk with a friend after dark. |

In three sentences | Cleveland State University is a University worth looking into. The professors are willing to help you in every way they can, if not in the class room they will help immensely during their office hours or on your time. Also, there is alway some kind of activity happening in the Student Center. So when a student has extra time or looking for a short break, the Student Center is the place to go! It is a friendly environment! |
Academic Rigor | The academic at Cleveland State University challenges you to use your brain a lot and teaches you how to maintain your time wisely. Even though this university challenges you, your advisors will not watch you fail! When they see you are having a hard time, they will contact you and try to give you the help you need to get back on track and pass. |
Dorm Life | The dorms at Cleveland State are very cozy. All of the dorms are by restaurants / fast food places which is very nice. Also, there are grocery stores close by. |
Food and Dining | There are many, many, many options for food and dining at Cleveland State University! The food is so good and you never run out of options! The dining staff that works in Cleveland State are very friendly and the restaurants very clean! Honestly I have never gone into a restaurant by or in Cleveland State and had a bad experience. |
What to do for fun | They have many activities at Cleveland State going on throughout the week! The Student Center always has some kind of free event going on! Also the workout room is free to those taking at least one class at CSU. |
Campus Safety | Cleveland State University has a very great safety program! There are buttons on every corner and in between the buildings! When you press the button there will be security officers at that spot in less than a minute! |

Will learn a lot | I am truly hoping to learn a lot at this school. I've heard wonderful things about the academics and the school itself. I can't wait for the new year to start up! |
Will enjoy being here | I do hope I will enjoy being here. The staff seems friendly, the dorms are very well priced and the recreation center is simply beautiful! As a major athletic I do believe I will love it here. |
Bang for the buck | Compared to other schools I researched, this school truly does take the cake. CSU has some of the lowest rates I have seen in any of the other universities in Ohio! Good pricing for a good school. |
Tips for prospective students | Submit your application and paperwork early! Classes, rooms and plans fill up quickly! |
Great for these types of students | All students. |
