Part of the University of Wisconsin system, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a 4-year public school and the largest university in Milwaukee. UWM confers degrees in over 195 academic programs and the university is one of two doctoral-degree granting public institutions in Wisconsin. Utilizing its proximity to Lake Michigan, UWM is the only school in the nation to feature a Freshwater Sciences program. Throughout the school year, UWM schedules a number of all-campus social activities such as Geek Week and the UWM Annual Drag Show, the largest such event in the state.
