Am enjoying being here | One the first night that freshmen come to school, there’s an event called “WildActs.” It’s an improv show that focuses on many aspects of college life. There’s a lot of school spirit during Basketball and football games. Also, there’s Jukebox, which brings students to learn about extracurricular activities, raffles, and IHOP gives out free pancakes, and you get a lot of free stuff. Also, there’s an annual parade where everyone, including the school’s fraternities and sororities make floats for prizes. There are endless possibilities-all you have to do is get involved. Every time you go to the MUB, they have events open to the public that are informative. Also they are big concerts near the end of the semester. I was told last year that there was a Snoop Dogg concert, and that this year Lupe Fiasco concert is going to be sold out. Sometimes, they also invite people to give lectures-I met Angela Davis during the Martin Luther King Celebration in January. |
Bang for the buck | Varies based on whether you live out-of-state. UNH has a regional New England Program which cuts your tuition if you're majoring in something not available in your home state. |
Tips for prospective students | I chose UNH because I really felt like I belonged on the campus. I visited at the end of my junior year, and it really stood out from the other schools that I applied to. Plus, Holloway Commons (HoCo) serves the best food, and is currently one of the colleges with the best food. Diverse wise, it was a little below expectations, but that was why I attended the CONNECT program, which was for students of color. I got to move into school a week early, and met most of my best friends. If I hadn’t gone here, my life would have been so much different than what I expected. |
Great for these types of students | Students who want to focus on a career in research. UNH has a little of everything. |

Am learning a lot | The classes are amazing and there is so much to choose from and UNH really tries to cater the classes so that individuals are actually interested in the classes they are attending and want to be there. For example, I'm a HUGE horse person but not a big history buff and I discovered that UNH offered a class that studied the use of the horse in history that I could take for the history requirement. You can even find work study jobs that cater to your major as well (as a pre-vet major I work in the NH State Diagnostic Lab on campus with veterinarians and get to observe interactive necropsies (animal autopsies) where the vets ask for your ideas and opinions and it's ok to say I don't know because they'll fill you in. |
Am enjoying being here | At first UNH was intimidating for me and wasn't even in my top 5 collages and yet their curriculum was just as good as all the other schools that I was looking at. The nicest thing is that UNH is small enough that you can get to where you need to be in a timely fashion and yet still big enough that you find your own niche in the society. There is always something going on at UNH, you just have to find it, the gym is open to students, along with the indoor pool and you can even ice skate at the Whittemore Center! It's such an exciting campus and before finals there is stress relief with massages (aqua and hand), an oxygen bar, and other fun things to take your mind off finals for a few hours. |
Bang for the buck | All I have to say is pic your classes based on the prof. and make use of ratemyprofessor.com, classes are the hardest when you have a professor you can't stand. |
Tips for prospective students | Trust your instincts and don't be afraid to ask for help. Make use of CFAR, and other academic resources that are free. Don't wait until the last two weeks of classes to try and salvage your grade, get help the second you start struggling. |
Great for these types of students | UNH has a bunch of smaller communities inside one campus so it's great for everyone. |

In three sentences | The University of New Hampshire is home to me. UNH includes a wide aray of academic studies that is sure to satisfy your goals for the next four years, along with resources that will help you create an unforgettable journey and the adventure of a lifetime. I take pride in being a part of the UNH community and strongly encourage young adults to consider it in their quest to start a future in the career of their choice. |
Tips for prospective students | Prospective students should seriously consider UNH due to its variety of oppurtunites and beautiful campus. UNH is great for pretty much anything you might ever be interested in. Everyone is thrilled to be here and we all take pride in calling this place our home. When it comes time for break or graduation, the common reaction for students is that they never want to leave. UNH is somewhere that everyone is welcome. We are all here to pursue our dreams and aspirations and we are more than ecstatic to be doing so on this campus. |
Academic Rigor | Overall, prospective students should expect college to be challenging. In order to prepare these young adults for a future in the career of their choice, they must get a proper education. UNH does an excellent job in this by implementing a challenging but useful curriculum and the staff and faculty do an incredible job in helping their students be successful. For some the level of academic rigor may be a bit of a wake-up call however, the skills you learn at this school are life lessons that you will keep with you your whole life. |
Dorm Life | The dorm life at UNH is very agreeable. There are multiple places to choose from on campus and depending where your classes are or where you want to be placed, there are different areas of dorms to choose from. I personally really liked that they provide dorms with multiple age groups and backgrounds, that way students are able to mingle with a variety of people and not just students in the same year as them. Res Life is a great thing here on campus and the RA's do a great job. Some of the best relationships I have made here at UNH are with RA's in my building and I love being able to go to them for whatever I need. Overall, people are very respectful of each other in dorms and the public areas tend to stay fairly clean, which is very important. |
Food and Dining | As you may have heard, UNH has some of the best food around! There are three dining halls to choose from in addition to multiple other locations you can go to satisfy whatever your craving is. Hoco (holloway commons) is my personal favorite and offers the largest variety of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each night is something different and there is always multple choices in case the nightly specialty isn't your favorite. Did I mention buffet style aka unlimited everything? |
What to do for fun | There are always plenty of oppurtunites for fun things to do on campus and I encourage any prospective students to keep that in mind! Whether you love getting involved in the multiple organizations on campus or simply want to hit the gym, you are sure to find your niche here on campus. SCOPE is a great organization on campus that brings fun, big-name concerts for students to go see. CAB also holds fun events for students like bingo, the spring carnival and other fun things. Also, there are always movie showings in the MUB theatre that you can buy tickets for and other events going on in the MUB every week. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | College woods is a great location for people who enjoy finding their peace with nature. Whether you want to run 5 miles or simply visit the hidden waterfall, college woods is somewhere you should visit before you graduate. T-hall is also somewhere that a lot of students enjoy going to hang out on sunny days. Some of my favorite memories are spent on T-hall lawn when I use to be a first year student. |
Clubs and Activities | The clubs and activites on campus are definitely one of UNH's best qualities. There are numerous clubs and organizations that so many students are passionate about and love to get involved in. |
Campus Safety | UNH does an excellent job with making sure students feel safe, after all this is our home. |

Am learning a lot | All of the classes at the University of New Hampshire are unique. Some are big, some are small, and each professor has a different teaching style. There is a lot of variety, but one thing remains the same: each student is treated well, and is given the chance to absorb an incredible amount of knowledge. First semester, I took classes ranging from junior level french, to a general education requirement like Ecology and Values. Either way, I was exposed to different aspects of each subject that I didn't expect, and I was bettered by that. My Psychology class had 250 students, whereas my French class had 10. Class size depends on the subject, and before coming to UNH I thought class size was extremely important. However, the professors at the university are committed to making you feel as though you are performing your best and they are committed to teaching their students to the best of their abilities. Even in my class of 250, I can confidently say that each student felt as though they were important. Not only am I learning a lot, I enjoy going to class every day and cannot wait for next semester to begin. |
Am enjoying being here | I am really enjoying attending UNH. There are so many clubs and organizations to get involved in, ranging from the College Democrats, to the Organic Gardening Club, to Greek Life, to Fencing. There is truly a niche for everyone, and there is always something going on. Aside from academics, concerts and guests are brought to UNH to perform. In December, the comedian Bo Burnham came to the Whittemore Center. The dorms are above average and although campus incidents occur, as is inevitable with a school the size of UNH, I feel safe on campus. There is a free bus for students which travels to surrounding towns such as Portsmouth, Dover and Newmarket, and the nearby train station travels throughout the northeast (Boston, Portland, etc.) Even though UNH is situated in Durham, New Hampshire, I have never felt isolated whatsoever. I enjoy the classes, I enjoy the community, and I enjoy the social aspect of UNH. |
Bang for the buck | The classes at UNH are challenging and worthwhile. I know few students who regularly skip class, because classes truly are enjoyable at UNH. The level of difficulty of classes, the number of clubs and organizations and the environment at UNH makes it truly worth the money. |
Tips for prospective students | As for prospective students, I would recommend taking a tour at UNH. The beauty of the campus is just icing on the cake, but it's worth seeing. Don't be afraid to ask about what kind of clubs and organizations are available, and once you attend UNH, don't be afraid to join them. Making friends is easy if you get involved, and it's completely worth your time. |
Great for these types of students | Honestly, UNH is great for all types of students, no matter how cliche that sounds. There are dorms at UNH which cater to particular types of students and allow them to easily find their niche. For example, there are honors dorms, art dorms, chem-free dorms, and dorms for international students. I know bio-med majors, classics majors, art majors and theatre majors who are all extremely happy with UNH. |

In three sentences | The University of New Hampshire has been nothing less than a place that I consider my second home. It's the one place where being a freshman is considered better than being a senior because the upperclassmen know that you still have 3 more years to be there when they're graduating. Everyone looks forward to meeting the incoming freshmen so that they can give their advice and help anytime it's needed, and likes to make everyone feel welcome. |
Tips for prospective students | My main tips for prospective students are: 1) Don't worry about what residence hall you're in. Whether you're in Stoke Hall with 600 residents, a mini dorm hall with 50 residents, or an all freshman dorm, you're going to have fun!!! Make the best of what you get! There's no wrong choice. If you're in a double/triple, don't be afraid to hang with more people than just your roomate on move in day. If you're in a single, don't be afraid to go out in the lounges, make the most of your shared space with your fellow dorm mates. 2) Don't bring everything you own to college. There's no need. UNH provides almost everything you could ask for. Snacks? Go to late night or grab a meal to go at the dining halls. Printing? Go to the library. TV? Go to the lounges in your dorm. Microwave/fridge? Go to the in dorm kitchenettes. Microwaves, stoves, fridges, sinks. It's all there for you to use. 3) Don't judge people. Everyone is definitely crazy on your first day at college. Get to know everyone once they're all settled in and more comfortable being themselves before you pass them off as friends. The person you think is stuck up and crazy may end up being your best friend by the end of the first year. |
Academic Rigor | The courses at UNH, from the 400 level courses to the 700 level courses, are challenging for even the most successful student. Courses are enjoyable with very knowledgable professors and every class has the resources needed to give you what you need to succeed. |
Dorm Life | All dorms have fun competitions twice a year called floor wars (unless you are in the mini dorms, where they're called mini wars). They encourage students to get involved within their dorm. Lounges are used for socials every week, held by the RAs. Everything is kept clean and housekeeping cleans every week day morning. Walls are pretty soundproof, as well, surprisingly. |
Food and Dining | 3 dining halls on campus means that there is plenty of choices for even the pickiest eaters. Philbrook Hall (Philly) is also open for late night until 11pm for late night study snacks. Each hall hosts different special events, such as State Fair Night, Beast Feast, and Philly and the Chocolate Factory. There are meals to go that you can take advantage of, as well as meal exchanges that you can use at the Union Court in the MUB. Cafes are also spread throughout the campus for quick snacks on the run between classes. |
What to do for fun | 1) Go to the sports games. There's something going on all throughout the year. 2) There are basketball courts and volleyball courts, etc. around some of the residence halls. Grab some friends and go play! There's equipment for students to rent, from basketballs to ice skates kayaks. 3) Go for a walk or run in college woods. There's plenty of paths and the scenery is amazing! 4) Join a sorority or fraternity 5) Go join a sports team 6) Join a club/student organization 7) Go t othe events held by the MUB |
Bang for the buck | UNH costs go up year after year, and the benefits don't. But overall, the quality of education, sports enthusiasm, student clubs/organizations, dining hall food, and student job opportunities has not lessened. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | 1) Petting the nose of the wildcat statue as you pass by 2) Riding the back of the wildcat statue for a picture at least once 3) Throwing a fish after the first goal by UNH at the hockey games 4) When someone says, It's a great day to be a wildcat, you have to respond with, Everyday's a great day to be a wildcat, huh! 5) Going to U-Day to see the biggest student gathering of the year |
Great for these types of students | UNH is great for everyone! |
Clubs and Activities | There are clubs, activities, and organizations at UNH for everyone! Movies and shows every weekend, special activities (Bingo with awesome prizes- mini fridges, bikes, TVs- and various dances) on weeknights. We have concerts and performances, as well. |
Greek Life | UNH has sororities and fraternities for everyone! We have social, professional, and honor sororities and fraternities for students of all interests. Some have houses available for students to live in and others prefer not to. |
Campus Safety | Campus police patrol the campus all day and night and are always on call. They also can provide rides for students if, for example, you need to go from your dorm to the cow barn at 3:30am for CREAM duty. Firetrucks respond within minutes to any fire alarm set off, as well. Emergency boxes are located with 100 feet of each other all throughout the campus for the safety of students, should they feel unsafe or need help. |

In three sentences | they have a lot to offer no matter what your major or even if you are undecided. the campus has a lot of diversity and you can expect to meet a lot of different people. the campus is large and set in a quiet little town which is very proud to have the university. |
Tips for prospective students | the campus is large so expect a lot of walking or bring a bike. there are many opportunities available so be sure to take advantage of them since most are free to students. i hope you like sports since this is a big sports school; go wildcats! |
Academic Rigor | depending on your major this may vary. most general studies courses are moderately easy. |
Dorm Life | dorm life is a touchy subject. some people are lucky and get placed with a roommate that is a perfect fit, others, not so much. that aside, dorm life is eventful and they always have something going on. if you want to meet people, i recommend living in a smaller dorm since the larger dorms are harder to meet people. |
Food and Dining | unh has one of the top food services in the country and services all locally gown product. there are three main dining hall on campus and depending where your classes are or where you live; that will decide where you eat the most. each is different and some care different options throughout the day. |
What to do for fun | there are many activities to do ranging from clubs, sports teams, concerts, etc. there is never a day there isn't something to do. |
Clubs and Activities | many organizations to choose from. |

Am learning a lot | I am definitely learning a lot here. It may be hard at times because every professor is so different, but once you get to know your professor and once they get to know you they will do whatever it takes to help you pass their class. There are also so many opportunities to get academic help on campus that you can use. |
Am enjoying being here | I love being on campus, there are so many nice people. I definitely recommend going to as many campus activities as possible to meet new people and have different experiences. You will never be bored. |
Bang for the buck | You will get your bang for your buck if you use all of the resources on campus for your learning experience. Also there are so many fun thing to do on campus covered by your activity fee, and there is always a sporting event to go to. |
Tips for prospective students | Go to study groups and use the library and Center for Academic Resources in order to help manage your class assignments. Go to as may events as possible. And have Fun! |

Am learning a lot | As a student who applied to many colleges, most of which were tier 4 or Ivy league, I never expected to end-up at UNH. I thought that it wouldn't be challenging enough for me, or wasn't good enough. Boy, was I WRONG! UNH offers a multitude of classes ranging from Dairy to Astrology. There are so many options, and so many great professors whom are willing to help you out in any way possible. |
Am enjoying being here | I have met so many friends here at UNH. Almost everyone you meet is open and friendly, willing to be your friend. As UNH is a intermediate-sized school, it's small enough to feel more rural and homey, but large enough so that you never see all the same people just in one day. |
Bang for the buck | UNH is a bit more pricey than other state schools (especially out-of-state tuition), but I believe is worth the money. They offer fairly decent scholarships and financial aid to help lessen the costs. |
Tips for prospective students | My tips for prospective students would be to branch out! Don't be afraid to sit with some random people at dinner and strike up a conversation. Leave your door open in your dorm room, join a club! It's the best way to make friends. |
Great for these types of students | Great for students who live in or near New Hampshire who are looking for a college that offers variety (if you don't know what you want to study just yet) and is large enough to meet countless friends! |

Am learning a lot | After completing my first year at UNH, I have learned so much both academically and mentally. All my professors have offered their time to help you succeed in the class. There are a number of resources that are always available too, like the writing and math centers. |
Am enjoying being here | I absolutely loved my first year at UNH. There is always something to do outside of your classes. I participated in a couple intramural teams, and joined several clubs. UNH offers such a variety of activities that there's something for everyone. I never had time to be homesick or bored. |
Bang for the buck | Even though I am paying out-of-state tuition, I never felt like I was wasting my money. If you take advantage of all the courses and activities UNH offers, it's worth it. Every college is expensive, but the quality of UNH exceeds many others. |
Tips for prospective students | Sitting in the front in large lectures and meeting with your professors for extra help regularly will definitely help you succeed academically. This may also seem repetitive, but get involved with something on campus. It's a great way to meet friends with similar interests, since it is a relatively big school. I've never heard anything negative about UNH; it's a great university with many options and opportunities. |
Great for these types of students | I think UNH is great for everyone. There's such a diverse group of people that attend this university, that it's clear everyone can succeed. Students who like smaller schools can live in a small dorm or join a smaller club, or students who prefer the city can easily hop a bus or train to Portland, Portsmouth or Boston. Anyone can live happily at UNH. |

Clubs and Activities | While academics should be the focus of all college students, finding a way to relax and form relationships with peers is critical to success both academically and in future endeavors. Clubs and organizations are an excellent way of doing this. UNH offers hundreds of existing clubs, ensuring the perfect fit for any student. I am in 4 orgs on campus. Each is very different in both topic and meeting type. Each atmosphere is as special to me as each hobby. UNH’s clubs help students get involved on campus and in the community. They also help students grow into their personality and strengths. The expanse and variety of clubs at UNH promises a place where every student can flourish and find relief from the rigors of academic life. |
Unlike high school where you can have the same class every day, College gives you the luxury of having a class 2-4 times per week. Some classes require me to read & analyze articles, others look for a 6-8 page paper. For those that do neither, the classes require a total of three exams and a final exam that help/hurt your grade if you don’t study.
I’m a little biased but I really like classes in the Liberal Arts field. I’m undeclared but trying to get into Sociology and Justice Studies. If I graduate with both, I can still go into Law School. My previous major, Nursing, did not give me the same opportunity, but I guess your major reflects what you’re passionate about. If you’re good at Art, Science, History, Technology, or care about animals, you have the chance to major in that field and turn it into a career.
