Tuition, Cost & Aid

Affordability and Cost

Average Net Price Average net price for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates paying the in-state or in-district tuition rate who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, or the institution. Other sources of grant aid are excluded. Aid awarded anytime during the full aid year is included.

Average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies and the weighted average room and board and other expenses.

In-State Tuition In-state tuition is the tuition charged by institutions to those students who meet the state's or institution's residency requirements. In-district tuition is the tuition charged by the institution to those students residing in the locality in which they attend school and may be a lower rate than in-state tuition if offered by the institution.
$16,586
Out-of-State Tuition Out-of-state tuition is the tuition charged by institutions to those students who do not meet the state's or institution's residency requirements. Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

What Students Are Saying

Depends on your residency, for me I'm an out of state prospective freshman and I believe that it's quite pricey even for me. I guess it goes hand in hand with all the amenities the university tries to accommodate for its students-trying to please them and let them feel safe and comfortable in the environment. Regardless of the price, a degree from Rutgers is worth every dime =)
Roisin from Boynton Beach, FL
I know it is worth the money because I will receive a solid education and meet new people who I can become freinds with.

In-State tuition is so cheap. If you have to pay something on the spot, go argue with them in the financial aid office. My friend was supposed to pay 3000$ last week and when she asked them for support or any additional grants, they gave her 2850$.

Buy all your books online from amazon or half.com. Be open to the idea of renting.
Marina from East Brunswick, NJ
Very cost effective for in-state students, and reasonable for out-of-state students. You really get a good education without spending crazy amounts of money.
Selorm from Germantown, MD
With or without financial aid, tuition should not be so hectic to deal with as with other universities. Students will definitely get their money's worth in Rutgers-Newark.
Frenchy from Elizabeth, NJ
worth all of the money coming to this school if you want a great opportunity for internships and many different opportunities for joint programs for all different types of majors
