In three sentences | First of all, I love IPFW because of the endless free gifts, free academic help, and free food that they are constantly offering us because what college student doesn't love free stuff? Additionally, another important detail of my school is that my classmates are kind, caring, simply decent students. Lastly, while I've had extremely caring professors during my first year, I urge every student search the professor he/she is thinking about having on RateMyProfessor because there are a few difficult teachers at IPFW. |
Tips for prospective students | As I noted earlier, I suggest that every student does a little research about the professor they will soon have. That will be a big factor in your grade because it was for mine. Don't be afraid to take communication classes like I was. I have social anxiety and I dreaded taking a communications class, but when the semester was finally coming to a close, I was extremely sad because I really did enjoy my classmates and all the life lessons my professor taught me. Take notes for a class before hand! This is advice I wish I followed during the beginning of my freshmen year. I would look at the syllabus before hand, take notes on the chapters, then when I went to class it was a lot easier to understand. Additionally, if you have a science or math class that gives homework online all at once, take advantage of your time and do as much homework ahead of time as you can! This cost me a B in Calculus because I forgot an online quiz and ended with a C+. |
Academic Rigor | Most of my classes were courses that would require thinking and critical skills to understand, but it was easy once I got the hang of it. Went from a C on my first exam to all A's on my last three in a biology course. |
Dorm Life | I lived in apartments across from campus, but my friends did live in the dorms. I heard they were a lot like apartments, but the wi-fi cut out a lot. |
Food and Dining | Okay, I'm just going to say it. Food is too expensive for college kids. I believe the cafeteria was selling a slice of pizza for four dollars. A little bottle of grape juice was more than a jug of the same brand at the supermarket down the street. Food was okay, not anything fantastic, but you'd hope that a college campus would at least have prices the same or lower than stores, right? |
What to do for fun | Lots of activities ranging from a free carnival, blow up jumping houses, multiple clubs including LoL, dog therapy, pool and chess, computer labs that aren't ever completely full, so you can just watch videos and movies there. The just opened the new library and it's extremely calm, comfortable, and quiet. I like sitting on the third floor next to the windows at sunset because of the nice views. |
Campus Safety | I feel safe at my college during the day. Just watch out for all the long boarders. If you are the long boarder, watch out for all the pine cones. I've seen about three people fly off their board from catching a pine cone. During the night, I feel like there could be more lighting. Maybe a cop walking around. I would also like to see emergency phones on the walks. On many occasions I've used the 24 hr computer lab and had to walk bad to my car on a dimly lit path. Always bring pepper. I've been walked back to my car by a professor who's class ended at 9 pm a few times. |

Am enjoying being here | My instructors have been great and really have a passion for teaching. Everybody seems so nice and I have met a lot of great people this past semester. There are always events going on that students can participate in and many people on campus that students can interact with. |
Tips for prospective students | Coming to IPFW saves lots of money as opposed to going to college out of state. They offer a variety of courses and have plenty of majors. If you are undecided, take different courses and I'm sure you will eventually find something that interests you. |

Am learning a lot | The courses not only in your major, but also in your general education requirements will be very insightful. Also, since IPFW is a smaller campus than the larger state universities, you can expect to enjoy class sizes that are around 30 people or less. This definitely helps to enhance your learning because you are able to develop a closer relationship with your professors. |
Am enjoying being here | I commute to campus, but this does not change how I feel about IPFW. While on campus I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, the down-to-earth professors, and quality of student life. There are always activities occurring, clubs to get involved in, and free food!! |
Bang for the buck | The city of Fort Wayne has so much to offer spanning from sports venues, festivals, and theatrical productions. Each of these attributes make Indiana-University Purdue-University Fort Wayne a great campus to study at because you not only get a reasonably priced education but there are so many activities going on that you can never get bored. |
Tips for prospective students | If you are unsure of what you want to major in, come to IPFW. You will save money by coming to the satellite campus for Indiana or Purdue University. Once you decide what you want to major in then you may decide to transfer to either of the main campuses. However, the charm of this college may entice you to finish your degree here. |
Great for these types of students | IPFW is great for just about any student. We have many international students, students who commute to campus, and apartment style on-campus housing. There is something here for everyone to get involved in. If you are struggling to adjust to the lifestyle in Fort Wayne I would recommend trying to join an on-campus organization. This may bring you out of your comfort zone but I have found that in the end the benefits greatly outweigh the costs. |

Academic Rigor | Most departments are opportune places to learn and network, and the professors are willing to push and support you. |
Dorm Life | Housing is expensive compared to off-campus apartments, but compared to other universities it's about the same. Luckily it is optional to live on campus during your freshman year. |
Food and Dining | There are two cafeterias, and they offer decent, but limited, food. The pricing isn't the cheapest, so this system can definitely use some work. |
Bang for the buck | Very affordable, and you can get a Purdue degree. The professors are mostly good and the opportunities are limitless. I would recommend getting off-campus housing by renting in a house or apartment. There is plenty of parking space on campus. |
Great for these types of students | Students that prefer campuses that aren't super busy or crowded would love IPFW. There are few enough students that you don't just feel like a number, and you can spot friends/classmates around campus all the time. |
Clubs and Activities | There are many intramural opportunities, clubs, and campus events that happen regularly. If you look, you'll be able to find interesting stuff to do weekly, if not daily. |

Am learning a lot | The professors really try and make sure you are learning the material, so long as you have a non-lecture setting to the classroom. They are very open and nice and will help you, or set up a time when they can help you, as long as you ask. |
Am enjoying being here | There are tons of activities to do on campus and student housing. Free food is EVERYWHERE and the RA's do a really good job of putting on activities almost every night. |
Bang for the buck | The price is great. The campus is beautiful and well-kept. The new student housing buildings are the nicest looking apartments you will find in the area, not to mention, you get your OWN bedroom. No need to have a tiny dorm room that you share with a roommate. You even have the choice of living with your own bathroom. The choices for floor plans are great. |
Tips for prospective students | Do not purchase your books from the bookstore on campus, they are VERY expensive. If you have to, wait until the first day of class, see what the book looks like and then find it online. They will be so much more cheaper. Renting is okay, and if you return your book you will NOT receive as much as you purchased it for, almost guaranteed. |
Great for these types of students | Students that want to have a great college experience at a reasonable price. |
