Northern Illinois University is a selective public university with a focus on research. The DeKalb campus is home to seven colleges with 46 schools and departments, and students can take advantage of regional centers in Chicago, Naperville, Rockford, Hoffman Estates, and Oregon, IL, as well. Freshman, sophomores, and transfer students can apply to the Research Rookies program which connects students with faculty to conduct small research projects in the student’s chosen field of interest.
