Will learn a lot | Love this school...not to small yet its right between home and Lexington. Campus is beautiful the lake is gorgeous. The housing on campus is getting updated and renovated, to make it more modern. Morehead is AHMAZING!!! |
Will enjoy being here | Lockegee is the place to go to relax, study and to just forget about the stresses of college. |
Bang for the buck | It has everything you want and then some without breaking the bank! |
Tips for prospective students | Take a day from school and visit the campus...ask questions during the tour and meet with the head of the department you're looking into. They have so much to tell you! |
Great for these types of students | Business Majors, Music Majors, Teaching Majors, and Nursing Majors...Come here!! This is YOUR future home! |

Am learning a lot | The great thing about MSU is that the professors really care. The class sizes are small, and almost always the professors know your name. Most of my professors have doctoral degrees, and really know what they are talking about. Any time I have ever had a question, they have been able to help. The classes are challenging, but manageable. It all depends on how hard you want to push yourself. No matter what level you are, you will learn something here. The professor will tailor the class to you. |
Am enjoying being here | I moved to Morehead from Louisville, so obviously this was a huge change for me. If anyone else out there is thinking about going to a small college in a rural setting vs. a large one in a urban setting, opt for the one in the middle of nowhere. Morehead is tiny, and true- there isn't a lot to do...if you don't look. Make friends and Morehead is just as great as NYC. I've lost my wallet a few times, and every time it has been turned in or returned to me within 24 hours. The safety here is what I like the most. I have never felt in danger. Not once. I can walk around by myself at night and not get hurt. Morehead was rated one of the safest schools and it shows. |
Bang for the buck | Morehead's tuition is extremely affordable. I don't spend anywhere near what everyone else spends to get the same education. The housing is mediocre, but it is relatively affordable. One of the things that I think Morehead should offer would be a better option for younger students to live off campus. Overall, however, I feel like my money is well spent. There is a tuition calculator on Morehead's website that will tell you just how much you would spend in different scenarios. |
Tips for prospective students | Try to look at scholarships specific to this school in September of your senior year. There are several that are specific to this time when some people are just starting to look. If you get your foot in the door during this time, you will do much better financially. Also, make sure you are ready to wake up at 2 am for fire drills. Yes, this will happen at any school you go to. |
Great for these types of students | Music Education, Computer Science, Pre-Vet, Ag, small town students or urban based students. Morehead is a great school with wonderful administrators, and deserves more credit than it gets. I am part of the Music Education department, and I love it. There is such a community here. Students really help each other out and the professors will create a personal bond with you. If you want a small town and a small campus, this is the place for you. |

In three sentences | Morehead States faculty are very friendly, and most of the professor will help you as much as they can. If you want to go to a University that isn't overly expensive MSU is your best bet! MSU's campus is fairly small but campus life is amazing! |
Tips for prospective students | Get involved! try out for athletic teams, sororities, frats, join clubs, anything getting involved definitely makes living on campus fun! Try to meet with your adviser at least once every two months, so that you can create a professional relationship with them, this could help you in the long run! |
Academic Rigor | I believe as long as you pay attention to your professors, and take notes, the classes are challenging but they aren't too difficult |
Dorm Life | I love living on campus, I have made many friends just by living in my dorm building, living on campus helps you meet new people which is essential when going away to college |
Food and Dining | There are plenty of choices of places to eat, my personal favorites are Wingspan (which is really close to all dorms!) and ADUC (which is where they have places like Chick-fil-a, taco bell, ect..) we also have a Starbucks and a Java City on campus! |
What to do for fun | The Recreation and Wellness Center is great if you love to workout, play racket ball or basket ball, Cave Run Lake is a 15 minute drive from campus but is well worth the trip, in one semester I believe me and my friends went there about 10 times! it is a great place to spend time with friends, or take pictures and such, there is also Tuesday Night Live held at the BCM on campus, they do skits and hold a worship service given By MSU students for MSU students, there are many more things to do on campus as well! |
Bang for the buck | All of the dorms are pretty awesome, the dining is great, and your professors actually care about their students due to the smaller class sizes they can get to know you better, I think MSU really does give their students a great Bang for their buck! |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | They give out free Tshirts like crazy on campus! almost every morning when you walk to class you will see the side walks and stairs chalked up with drawings or updates from Frats and Sororities. |
Great for these types of students | Students who want to attend a smaller university without going to a Community college. Want to make lasting friendships. |
Clubs and Activities | There are plenty of ways to get involved at MSU! The list is endless! almost anything you could ever want to do, there is probably a club for it! |
Greek Life | I have witnessed the Greek Life on campus, and I am planning on joining next semester because it seems like so much fun! |
Campus Safety | MSU has their own police force, there are cops always patrolling, the cops are very friendly and will help you any way they can! |

Am learning a lot | The amazing thing about learning at Morehead is the fact that your classes are small and the professors know you by name. If I raised my hand in my psychology class, I know the professor would answer Yes, Ashley? every time, & he could always help. Also, I really liked how the material was presented. The slides you cover in class are almost always on Blackboard afterwards, which is very helpful for you to study outside of class. |
Am enjoying being here | Everyone always says there is nothing to do at Morehead, but that's because they don't look! There are always events going on on campus, & the University send you emails every week so you know the events that week. I love that! Also, off campus there are great places to eat, a good amount of shopping, and you're just 30 to 45 minutes from big cities like Lexington. |
Bang for the buck | Tuition at MSU was one of the many things that made me chose Morehead. It is reasonable, and they will help you with scholarships and financial aide in any way possible to make sure you can pay and get a good education. A lot of people end up paying absolutely nothing. |
Tips for prospective students | I recommend getting involved on campus on move in day and meeting new people. The block party is a lot of fun for that! I also reccomend you live in a four person suite, in Mignon or West Mignon. I love having all the room, my own shower and bathroom. |
Great for these types of students | I think Morehead is great for any subject matter major students. I know the education program is a big deal, but I am a psychology major and I think it works great for me! Also, I think MSU is great for people who want a small campus, but not too small. I love that I don't have to walk very far, ever. |

Am learning a lot | I have learned a lot the past few years I've been here. It has great teachers. Of course, there are a few who everyone has a problem with, but the majority will do anything to help you out with any problems. The teachers are always willing to listen and be of assistance in any way possible. |
Am enjoying being here | I really enjoy it here. The summer, spring, and fall months are usually nice. When it snows it the winter time and when the leaves change in the fall the mountains are gorgeous. It is a beautiful campus with friendly individuals and staff members. |
Bang for the buck | One of the cheapest colleges I know of besides a community college. A good education at a cheaper price is never a bad combination. |
Tips for prospective students | Ask questions. Everyone around here is willing to help and answer any questions you have about anything. Literally, anything. It is a great place to go to school. |
Great for these types of students | Great school for anyone looking for a place that is not too big, but not too small. Anyone looking for a great education, a good college experience, and good relationships with people will love this school. |

In three sentences | Things were alright, but there was too much red tape. It took me forever to get things settled with finances, with my class scheduling for this past semester and for the spring semester, and with everything in general. Things would be much better if there were more efficient methods in place for these things. |
Tips for prospective students | Be sure to do whatever you can to cut through all of the red tape as soon as you possibly can. The sooner everything gets taken care of the less you have to worry about it and the less frustrating it is. |
Academic Rigor | Some of the classes were much more difficult than others. |
Dorm Life | I greatly enjoyed living in the dorms. I made new friends with my neighbors and others as well. It gave me the opportunity to be in a place where I was out on my own without being totally cut off from some of the comforts of home. |
Food and Dining | The dining at Morehead is excellent. There are a lot of places to choose from and lots of different options. Any time you are having a craving you can almost guarantee that some place on campus has it and has it as a meal plan option. |
What to do for fun | The Rec Center was a HUGE improvement as far as recreation goes. There isn't much to do in Morehead and the addition of the Rec Center for students made my stay very enjoyable. It had a great many options for exercise as well as fun and places to go to clear your head. |
Bang for the buck | I'm happy enough with my Morehead experience. It wasn't too expensive for me (so far) because of scholarships and other aid I'm receiving so I am getting a great education for very little money. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Eagle Lake was a great place to go for me as a student. It is easily accessible and provided a way to just get out of the city for a bit, to get away from the hustle and bustle of school and inundate myself with the sounds, smells, and sensations of being in nature. |
Greek Life | The Greek life on campus is incredible. I'm became friends with many individuals who are in sororities and fraternities on campus and was surprised to see just how big of an impact the organizations had on the individuals. My own personal favorite, though, was the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. The traditions that SigEp has adopted are strong and ongoing. It was humbling to see just how strong the bond between the boys in SigEp (as well as in the other Greek orgs.) was. |

In three sentences | A great institution with amazing professors who really do care about you, and your education. The campus and town are beautiful, being in the Daniel Boone National Forest. |
Tips for prospective students | If you are seriously considering going here you really need to think about joining a fraternity or sorority. Greek life is pretty much an unspoken requirement here. Get invoked in something while you are here so you can make friends and don't drive yourself crazy. |
Academic Rigor | It really depends on the class and professor of the course will be a rigorous one. It also helps if you actually attend class, you have the choice to go to class and whatnot now. |
Dorm Life | Your RA, and other RA's in your residence hall will have program and stuff for you to participate in, they are usually fun. BRING AN ETHERNET CABLE!!! The wifi can be in and out sometimes, so bring one to be safe. Alumni Tower is the way to go though, because there are two restaurants in the basement and POD market on the first floor. |
Food and Dining | All of the dining options on campus are good, they are all different so there's something for everybody. |
What to do for fun | Mr. Gattis is right across the street from campus police, that's fun. Rec Center always has something happening. Eagle Lake (we are the ONLY) campus in Kentucky with a lake on campus) is a good place to go to just hike around and clear ones head. |
Bang for the buck | Cheapest state school in Kentucky, and it isn't bad for being so cheap. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Nearly Naked Mile Nunn Hall is haunted, look it up for details. |
Great for these types of students | People who like a small town feel will like it because that's how the town is around campus, but if you head down Fleminsburg road towards I-64, there we have all the shopping and stuff. |
Clubs and Activities | Lots of different clubs to suit different people. Easy to join and meet clubs during the activities fair at the beginning of school. |
Greek Life | Unspoken requirement. Find out the reputation of each frat and sorority before and during rush, because if you don't like the reputation of that particular Greek organization, you need to reconsider. |
Campus Safety | Safest campus in KY and one of the safest in the US. |

In three sentences | Morehead State University is a great place to attend college. The small campus offers a close net community of peers and safety and familiarity. Also, the teachers are great and there are tons of things to do there for study breaks and fun with your friends. |
Tips for prospective students | To any prospective students, I suggest that you take a college visit to your the campus and see how beautiful it is. Also, if you have picked out a major, talking to the department chair of that major will allow you to see if Morehead is a good choice for you in pursuing that major. |
Academic Rigor | The teachers at Morehead are very interested in you individually and do their best to teach you everything that will benefit you and help you maintain good grades. |
Dorm Life | A lot of the dorms are newly renovated, very nice. Plus they are all. Lose to everything you could need on campus including classes, dining, the gym, the market, etc. |
