Am learning a lot | I am learning a lot. We have wonderful teachers and a very diverse and affordable(cheap) college, MATC is a college that don't discriminates based on grades or ACT s or SAT s. They understand the lives of student, they know that we are not just students we are also parents, and not typical parents teen moms. They know that we are wives and husbands and they accommodate us because they know times are hard. They only thing that i do wish they improved was more help with scholarships and grants. |
Am enjoying being here | I am enjoying being there because you learn how to deal with different cultures and religions. The professors really do try to help those who really do want help and not just trying to get a check. MATC is college that treats you like an adult and not a child. They understand that in the real world you have to deal with mature responsible people,In the world they expect you to be responsible and mature. |
Bang for the buck | MATC is very affordable. Most colleges have you in debt before you start. Most of the times you receive a refund from your pell grant at MATC. With other colleges they make sure you have nothing left. MATC don't get you for all you got, they try to give back, And I love that about MATC. |
Tips for prospective students | If you are thinking about attending MATC I will recommend that you know how to communicate in a professional manner, be responsible and mature. |
Great for these types of students | For anyone who is looking for a Associate Degree. This college is for students who are struggling, who is a parent or single parent, for someone who may need help with government assistance. For someone who likes to be in a diverse college. This college is great for students who is looking for employment, MATC has job fairs like every 2-3 times a month. MATC also help students that wants to further their education, MATC partners up with the 4 year colleges so once your done you will have no problem registering for the college you will be like pre-enrolled, they also have college fairs, healthcare fairs, blood drives etc. MATC have so much to offer for the students that attend the college. And they show you so much respect and love. |

In three sentences | Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has helpful professors. The quality of the education is exceptional. The classes prepare you to work in the real world, implementing skills you learned in class. |
Tips for prospective students | Find time to study and review your notes every day. Make flashcards to help you study key terms. Feel free to see your professor during his or her office hours because they are there to help you and they love seeing you succeed! |
Academic Rigor | High quality of academics and the text books are very helpful. Make sure to study a lot since this will result in high testing grades and high grades, too! It's worth it! |
Food and Dining | Pizza, salads, breakfast, yogurt, fresh fruit, you name it and MATC's cafeteria should have it! MATC's cooks provide healthy lunches, too. I enjoy eating the veggie burger! Yummm! There are also many places to eat right off of campus including Subway, Alterra Coffee Shop, Starbucks Coffee, Dunkin' Doughnuts, and one of my favorites ... Hot Flash, where you can get a warm pretzel as a snack between classes! These places are all within 3 blocks of MATC and are within about 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from the downtown campus. Go and see what tasty treats you can find! |
What to do for fun | Explore Milwaukee's Public Museum just a block and a half south of the downtown Milwaukee campus. See a show at the giant IMAX Dome theatre at the museum. Travel by car or walk along the lakefront (about 7 to 8 blocks away) and stop at a quaint coffee shop (Alterra Coffee) for a quick pick-me-up between classes! The coffee there is incredibly delicious! Yumm! |
Bang for the buck | Classes are great and well worth the money that I am paying for tuition. It's affordable and having a career as a Physical Therapist Assistant will be great! I'll be able to pay off my student loan within about 1.5 to 2 years after graduation. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | The lounge or study area is a great place to study. It's a semi-quiet study area, and the students are so nice. This area has two microwaves in case you need to warm up some eggs for breakfast or some soup for lunch. There are vending machines with affordable sandwiches or soups inside, available to everyone. I like studying in this space since there is optimal light entering the large area and there are comfortable chairs and tables. It's a wonderful place to eat lunch or conduct a group study session. |
Great for these types of students | Any student should feel at home at Milwaukee Area Technical College. My fellow students are kind and helpful. I enjoy studying with them every day! |
Clubs and Activities | There's a new culinary arts section being built on the first floor of the main building just 3 floors down from where my classes are held. I can't wait to taste some of the delicious home-made lunches that the culinary arts students will make this upcoming semester! Also, MATC offers students the opportunity to participate in one of many Stormers teams, whether it's basketball, golf, or volleyball. There is also student council/student government, which anyone can participate in. Being a student at MATC requires a good balance between work and play! MATC also has one social dance each semester with a theme. Last semester's dance was the 80's. Fun times! |
Campus Safety | The campus is safe and I feel safe walking on campus every day. There is a no firearms policy and eveyone abides to this rule. There is a police station and a fire station within a two block radius of the downtown campus! My fellow classmates and the other students on campus are very kind and are willing to walk with you on campus. I feel safe while walking from my bus stop to campus and from campus to my bus stop. Milwaukee is a great city and I enjoy studying and learning at MATC. |

In three sentences | I didn't exactly hope attending MATC. Considering the fact that this school was not my top choice, talking to very nice teachers and helpful faculty here I am now looking forward to going here at Milwaukee Area Technical College! |
Tips for prospective students | Make sure you know what you need and GET IT! MATC is wonderful but their telephone lines are SOOOOO not answerable its crazy! Plan to even go up there for any here and there questions as well, that one question may just save you some money, OR even open a window of many resources you hadn't known about, It did for me :) |
Academic Rigor | One thing I learned and was often told later down the road of me signing up for MATC was to NEVER under estimate this school. Their is not Technical about this school but their Degree's, lol. They are just as hard as any other schools with teachers that's going to make you work just as hard as any 4 year university. |
Dorm Life | No dorms of course, Tech school. |
Food and Dining | Their isn't a cafeteria within MATC but theirs a TON of restaurants near by, and even The Grand Shopping mall. |
Bang for the buck | Its less exspensive and you recieve more finiancial aid which is ALWAYS a plus! Not saying blow the extra bucks you do get, of course! Lol |
Great for these types of students | Get in and get out degree seeking people, who don't want the lack of education put in. |
Clubs and Activities | Over looking that MATC is a Tech College, you'll find yourself thinking that this is a university with how many Club and Organizations they have. |
Campus Safety | Too much into Downtown for you to be in danger Lbvs. |

Food and Dining | The food at the college is good. |
What to do for fun | I like to work-out and spend time with my kids. |

In three sentences | They have a wonderful faculty that are truly passionate about their fields. They also have a great curriculum, and ease of learning. Sadly, some of the students attending give the school a bad name. |
Tips for prospective students | Attend classes regularly, do your assignments on time (don't let them start slipping), and participate in class/group work. |
Bang for the buck | They give you just as much information as would a four-year school; except it's about half the price. Some may dismiss it, but they do a great job teaching. |
Great for these types of students | Students a little low on cash, but would like to go to school. Also, great for starting out your college experience. |
Campus Safety | I have never had an incident on any of the campuses I have attended (3/4 campuses). |

Will learn a lot | The culinary program is amazing. I spoke to students and looked at both this program and the program for Art Institute of Wisconsin. The program at MATC is much better and costs much less. |
Bang for the buck | Beyond that, the gen-ed classes are much cheaper than the UW system and transfer. |
Great for these types of students | Definitely a good pick, especially if you aren't positive about what you want to do yet. |
