Am learning a lot
I knew I wanted to go to a college with small classes before I even applied to colleges. My favorite part about my classes is that my teachers know who I am because the classes are so small. Another plus to the classes being small is you know the teacher will be able to have time to answer your questions during class rather than you having to meet up with them outside of class. The teachers so far have been able to answer all my questions within class. They are always willing to help you learn a concept and are happy to see you when you walk into their office during their office hours. There are so many ways to get help too. The Tutoring Center has been very beneficial while I tutor one of my friends because when we found a problem I couldn't describe well enough we could go to them and they broke it down into an easier way to understand. They are all experienced in their work and they are open at convient times, unless you are procrastinating and waiting until the weekend to start your work. Also you can check your courses on your mycats and it will list the emails of your classmates (or instant messaging if people are on) to get help or ask if you missed something in class.
Am enjoying being here
My favorite part about the college is that Georgia College and State University is beautiful. So many people sit outside of the dorms and play their guitars and sit around and talk even if they don't know you. As I walk to class I leave at least half an hour early so I can listen to people play music or socialize with people. When I had an hour between my Biology 1108 and lab, I would sit on front campus with a book underneath a tree with my friends that were going to class with me. You get a lot of fresh air because the wind gently breezes through, and they have lots of trees, grass, and bushes to circulate clean air. They also have a lot of intramural teams, clubs, and sports. You don't have to know how to play a sport to be on an intramural team, in fact it's more fun to get a bunch of your friends together and go play! Or if you know a lot of friends joining one and you don't want to play they allow you to stand on the field and cheer for the teams. Since I am a female I am usually cautious about my safety, but I have never questioned my safety since I have arrived. The whole campus has lighting at night and even the Grove (the apartments behind the dorms) has lighting. Some of my friends live in the Grove and I was worried about walking the extra distance to see them, until I saw how well I could see the road I had to cross. Also if you ever feel uncomfortable walking alone they have a golf cart that goes around campus at night offering to give you a ride (S.N.A.P). If you ever need the number it is posted around campus and inside Sodexo (commonly known as Saga). Also You don't have to worry about waking up really early just to get to class on time. Everything is about 10 minutes away from the furthest dorm (Foundation).
Bang for the buck
Everything will seem expensive at first dorms over $2000 a semester, freshmen requiring meal plans at $1800 a semester, then classes, student fees in the dorms, activity fees, transportation fees, and so forth. But when you add up all the benefits of what you don't have to pay for when you get to college (computer lab, study rooms, dorm pizza parties, dorm Halloween parties, computer repairs and so forth) you begin to realize you're actually not paying an outrageous price for college. Compare the prices to other schools. This college has small classes almost like a private school, but you're paying for a public college. Dorms are expensive, but the fancy apartments are about the same price. You will save more money after your freshman year, but overall you don't spend more than you estimate. The bookstore is a little sneaky and over price you, but you can always avoid the bookstore by finding them elsewhere or rent them like I did.
Tips for prospective students
Make sure you have over a 530 on the writing portion of the SAT. They tell you they don't look at that score, but they do once you are in college. If you don't make a great score (like I did) they will make you take extra tests (the Regents test). If you do well on that part of the SAT then you have less to worry about in college. Make sure you study of course, but do not spend your whole time studying. You need to meet new people. Don't just hang out with people you met from your high school explore new things. I joined the International Club because there are foreign exchange students in there and it is fun to learn about different cultures. Join a few clubs to let you know it's okay to relax after a long day of studying. You aren't required to go to every meeting anyways. Make sure you occasionally check who your roommate is before you move in (they do change) and plan what each of you will bring. There is no promise you guys won't get along, but don't walk in thinking negatively or else you will have problems. Be willing to share space and be nice and don't bring the opposite sex in all the time, because they want privacy too. Always ask and make sure you express your boundaries. Tell them what you do/do not like happening when you are/aren't in the room. Overall have fun! It won't be hard to do, but remember you do need to study and have a great college experience!
Great for these types of students
Students that want to learn with smaller class sizes and be able to ask questions and get to know their professor. The campus is medium sized so you won't know everyone so you can socialize with a lot of people without feeling you have no one left to meet. If you like the nice fresh air from outside. The dorms are big enough not to feel cramped. Good college for social people because you most likely won't have a lot of students from your high school going with you.

With class sizes only 20-25 students teachers have a better chance to get to know you personally and help you with any problems you are having. Just about every class is equipped with power point and computers to help students learn. There is also a tutoring center, language labs, science labs, and a space lab where you can learn about different stars. Recently we have added a nursing and exercise science building to give students a more hands on experience. There are also several opportunities to join research teams.
Am enjoying being here
The campus is so beautiful. The faculty and staff are really nice and helpful. I really enjoy sitting on the front lawn reading a book or playing Frisbee. I also enjoy going on river walks. There are lots of different clubs, intramural teams, sororities, and fraternities to join. Our basketball team is really good too. Last year we went to the NCAA 2 division play offs. There is not much crime either, and the town of Milledgeville itself has pretty much everything even a Walmart. The campus as this new program called S.N.A.P. that helps students get back to their dorm after a late night of studying at the library. Every thing is really central too.
Bang for the buck
I thinks the dorms are really worth the extra money. The food is just your basic cafeteria food, but they do offer lots of variety. You also learn a lot too.
Tips for prospective students
My tips for students are to study hard, but have fun at the same time. Try new things in college. You may find a new interest. I recommend getting to know your teachers too since they will be the ones you will be going to for references. Get to know your roomate early. Things will go much smoother.
Great for these types of students
GCSU is a great school for students who are looking for smaller class sizes, a medium size campus population, and a beautiful campus. The dorms are also really nice since they are suite style. GCSU is also for students who want to have fun and learn a lot at the same time.

Academic Rigor
Almost all of the teachers are wonderful! Most teachers design the class to allow you to learn, instead of worry about the grades. I thought college was going to be just sit in a classroom and listen to the lectures, but GCSU has small class sizes so you can be comfortable having a conversation with your teacher and classmates.
Am enjoying being here
Not only is everyone extremely intellectual and friendly here, Southern courtesy prevails. This may be a little irrelevant, but if you're going into a building or classroom doors are held. Everyone is polite and respects each other so much.
There's something here for everyone! With all the friends you meet being on such a small campus you can't help but to run into people everywhere you go, including night-life. We like to say, Everyone's famous in Milly!
Bang for the buck
If you have HOPE scholarship, anything will be a bang for your 90-100% free tuition, but GCSU especially. With HOPE, pretty much the only thing you pay for is housing and freshmen MUST live in dorms, which is great! Living in the dorms freshmen year is the best because you get to know everyone on your hall, in your building, and a ton of people in the other dorms too!
The classes are wonderful since most of them are pretty small (30 people or so unless it's biology) so you really feel like a person, not just a desk. Because there's not 400 people waiting for the next note to write down, you do not feel like you're wasting everyone's time asking questions or taking the class on a tangent.
There are also so many facilities to help you get the best grades you possibly can. All of the faculty is helpful and willing to work with you if you're willing to work with them. Never feel afraid when taking a test to say to your teacher I just don't know the answer to this question, what can you do to help me on it?. They will work with you the best they can to get you to the answer!
Tips for prospective students
My Number One tip for prospective students, especially at GCSU, try EVERYTHING! GCSU is really big on students getting involved and they make it so very easy. Getting involved not only looks better to your teachers and the other staff around you, it also may help you while applying for a major. Most importantly, getting involved makes making friends and getting to know the school extremely easy!
Great for these types of students
Friendly, interested in learning, interested in being social, experimental, art lovers, music lovers, active, hermits, hard workers, Everyone!

gcsu is a wonderful college. there are many majors and majors to choose. there are also many clubs, organizations, sororities, and fraternities to join.
Tips for prospective students
please take advantage of the free tutoring service. instead of printing out notes (i.e. handouts and power point slides), write down all the notes. this helps you understand it better. join at least one club or organization, so you can make friends, go on trips, and learn new things. do not take too many electives. finish your core before taking any electives.
Academic Rigor
some classes are easy. other classes are hard. many professors are nice enough to help students when needed. there are professors who take attendance as well as professors who do not. the professors who take attendance will allow 3 or 4 absences and grade reductions for each subsequent absence.
Dorm Life
in the dorms, all the furniture and utilities are provided. you just need your college stuff, linens, and a mini-refrigerator and microwave to prepare your meals. there is a policy of no alcohol under 21. yes, ids will be checked! also, there are quiet hours at night, meaning no noise is allowed at night. the only pets allowed are fish in a 10-gallon tank. no other pets are allowed! anytime residents have a problem, there are resident assistants (ras) to help out. if you would like an apartment style housing, there are on-campus apartments called the village. the same policies discussed in this section are used there. all freshmen have to live on campus (either the dorms or village apartments). after that, they can live in anywhere on or off campus.
Food and Dining
most of the food in the dining hall is good. some of the food is not. the original dining hall has been remodeled into a huge dining hall with many different stations to choose from. there is everything from fast food to international foods to desserts. on the weekends, there is a yummy omelet bar. some delicious meals are polenta and thai green curry. the university has coffee shops and restaurants for very affordable prices-do not miss it! you can get a pizza, cappuccino, or calzone- all here on campus!!!
What to do for fun
go to the student activities center to play pool or ping pong, study for tests, do homework, or relax in the massage chairs! color in a coloring book! watch a movie or show on campus! attend the free events!!!
Clubs and Activities
international club, baptist college ministries, t.i.a.r.a.s., women's center, campus outreach, wellness and recreation center, sports
Greek Life
phi mu, delta zeta, alpha delta pi, gamma sigma sigma
Campus Safety
public safety is open 24/7 and never closes! this keeps track of anything bad that happens on campus.

This campus provide hands on experience that will prepare you to be able to go into your career confident and prepared.
Am enjoying being here
I love the chance to be able to meet people of diverse backgrounds. In addition, this school is relatively small with about 6,000 students in a rural town. this is a great chance to be able to focus on school and be apart of a family like atmosphere where you can know everyone if you wanted to.
Bang for the buck
It is worth every penny. A great school with hands on experience, teachers that you have access to if you have any problems, and a family like atmosphere where a person can make friends and a community that works along side the students that attend with volunteer services. Plus we get professional businesses from all over Georgia that come to provide students the opportunity to put their skill into action whether they are currently enrolled or are about to graduate.
Tips for prospective students
Use your resources here at Georgia College and State. Get to know your teacher well until they know you personally that they can help you if you should have problems. Also be actively involved on campus and in the community. This will give you the chance to really grow as a person and learn a lot of life lessons.
Great for these types of students
Students who love to challenge themselves academically, love to help other and be actively involved in school and the community, and those who love to learn about different cultures.

Georgia College is the place you go if you truly care about your education. The teachers challenge you academically, your class sizes are small, and you never are going to have one of those classes where you don't have to try and still get an A. That being said, when you do receive an A, you truly know that you've earned it.
Tips for prospective students
The campus is beautiful and the night life can distract you, but from day one of classes you need to stay on top of your course work. It really is all in the syllabus, and as long as you stay ahead of your work the years ahead won't be nearly as hard as you're expecting them to be.
Academic Rigor
For my core classes, which I expected to be easy classes to get out of the way before my major's classes, I was shocked at the work load. There is so much each week that has to be done and most of it is online, on your own. So if you don't remember that week to do something, your teacher won't feel bad for you. I can't repeat this enough: stay on top of your classwork!
Dorm Life
I don't live in the technical dorms, I live in the village on West Campus which is apartments that are still owned by the school. If you need your own private space, this is the place you need to go. I have my own bedroom and only share a bathroom with one person. We can cook with our oven and we have a living area and kitchen appliances- the whole works. Also, we have free laundry and free maintenance calls.
Food and Dining
The food AROUND Georgia College is great. Theres plenty of restaurants right off campus that take your bobcat card and are quick. But the Max isn't the best. The more I eat there the less I want to come back. The food is repetitive and half of the time not all of the stations are open because you aren't coming in the proper hours for Lunch and Dinner time, but if you go during those times you have to wait in incredibly long lines.
What to do for fun
There's the greenway ( a park by the river), bowling, plenty of places to eat, theres a lot of geocaching if you're into that. Theres a huge national park less than 20 minutes away, and theres also two major lakes here that are great for kayaking and fishing during the fall and spring. Also there is plenty of night life activity like Capital and Chops, which are bars that are basically dance clubs.
Bang for the buck
It is a little pricey to go here, I'll admit. But with small classes and professors who actually care about you, its worth it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Do NOT step on the bobcat head on front campus. Its like UGA's arch, if you step on it you won't graduate on time or you'll drop out. Don't. do. it.
Clubs and Activities
I'm in emerging leaders and its a great club to be in as a freshman because of how many people you meet right off the bat. Also, one of my friends is in a club where all they do is sell plants for fundraisers and its so much fun going to buy some from her for a great cause. There are over 120 different clubs, and there will definitely be something for everyone here.
Campus Safety
There are at the least three different main police stations in Milledgeville. Theres the campus police, then the Baldwin county police, and then theres a state troopers location here as well. We are super safe.

Georgia College is one of the top universities in the state. There is a strong drive for academic achievement, and assistance in all classes is offered all the time. There are always fun activities being offered to keep the weekends busy and entertaining.
Tips for prospective students
Get involved with whatever interests you. Many students sign up for everything, and then slowly get involved in a couple that really speak to them. The few who don't sign up for any clubs or activities can feel left out quickly, because everyone else is busy with new friends and activities. Everyone is new, so feel comfortable to join anything that sparks your interest. Go to the Learning Center in the library whenever you need help. They are there and free to help you, so take advantage of this great system.
Academic Rigor
The teachers have high expectations, but still at a reasonable level of success. The nursing program is difficult, but if a student succeeds, they are very intelligent in their field. The challenging classes have tutoring sessions available frequently through the week.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is a blast. Most of the rooms are a great size, and sharing a bathroom is easy and simple, and close, much better than busy community bathrooms. The Community Advisors plan events during the week and on weekend nights, including food, fun, and games. The dorms have study rooms nearby that are convenient for study and escaping the room for a breather. Kitchens are easily accessible in the dorms, which is great to make snacks or a quick meal for yourself.
Food and Dining
Food is about average, there is always pizza, salad, sandwiches, ice cream and other treats available. The stir fry line always has good food, and the hot meals are average. Breakfast has lots of choices with eggs, bacon, bagels, and cereal.
What to do for fun
Front Campus is wide and spacious, always full of Frisbees and people walking their dogs. Evenings can be spent downtown visiting restaurants. There is a park nearby and a river. This is a great place to go tubing, or walk on trails, or play games at parks. The Wellness Center has a rock climbing wall, pool, and basketball courts where many games can be played. Intramural sports are popular opportunities to have fun, whether you are playing or cheering on friends. Thursday nights have Improve shows which are run by GC students and are hilarious every week.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Fall Festival is a great weekend where families and friends go downtown to listen to live music and participate in carnival activities and eat good food. On Halloween the theatre preforms a play that many students dress up and attend for a fun night out. The Den in a place where students can hangout, play pool, get unlimited soda, or relax in front of a tv in a massage chair.
Great for these types of students
This school is great for students who are looking for a great time with the small town feel. Relationships are built quickly and with ease. You'll see a friend every time you walk around campus, and can meet new people everyday.
Clubs and Activities
There is an abundance of clubs and activities offered. There are lots of Christian organizations open and welcoming. Other religious or non religious group also exist. There are literary, scientific, and language based clubs. Fun activities range from intramural sports, chorus, and theater groups. These are fun to join, but also a blast to watch when they are ready to preform.
Greek Life
Many sororities and fraternities are offered. There are lots of events and socials, so if you enjoy parties, making friends, and don't mind the time commitment, it can be lots of fun.
Campus Safety
Safety is highly encouraged on campus. Alarm buttons are in every room in case of an emergency. Blue lights dot the street corners, also an emergency button that can be pressed in dire circumstances. Golf carts drive around on weekend nights to pick people up if they feel unsafe traveling home after a night out.

Georgia College is a magical kind of place. Most of the students (including me) complain about it pretty regularly. Despite all of our whining, there really isn't anywhere we'd rather be.
Tips for prospective students
(1) Learn to study. Yes, I know you're in AP/IB and you didn't have to study to do well in those classes. That's great, good for you. At one point, I was just like you. College isn't AP or IB, and anyone who tells you so is a liar. (2) Inversely, it's not all about your course load. College is learning to juggle a social/romantic life, work (and schoolwork is a job, trust me), hobbies (sports, arts, etc), and adult responsibilities all at once. It will be difficult somedays. There will be some tears. (3) Learn when to take a step back. If the day comes where you need to binge watch Dr. Who in it's entirety, do it. If you need a spa day, do it. If you just want to be left alone, make some time for yourself. The world never stops turning, but sometimes you just need rest.
Academic Rigor
Classes are hard, but the professors are accommodating if something is going on in your personal life. I recently had a pretty trying time - my mother was diagnosed with cancer and my dad lost his job- and all of my professors helped and provided support for me as if I were a close friend. They still require you to put in the work, but they'll push back a few deadlines or provide an alternative if necessary.

Alot of freshman courses will require you to get off your behind and go become active on campus. Attending games, seminars, discussion forums, and various other school funded events. So for those of you who have a hard time in new social settings, the school will be your wing man while you're getting your feet wet. Some classes will have that as your final. Which is pretty fun compared to an actual test.
Dorm Life
I've been at GCSU almost 3 years and I've never had a bad roommate. Rooms are nice, well-lit, and have the basics. You also have a lot of say in decorating. You can't paint your room of course, but there are a ton of things you can do to make the space cozy. You'll either have a single (2 rooms with 1 in each) or a double (2 rooms with 2 in each). The layout, size of each room varies a little bit, so it's best to learn the general makeup of each building so you can get one that suits you best.

They're all (except Bell) about 10 minutes away from Campus and the Downtown area, and there's no worries about rent or utilities. It's also an easy way to get started making friends. They're convenient, and they more than serve their purpose. A bus comes around every weekend to take you to the grocery store and the mall if you need something but don't have a ride (or don't feel like losing your parking spot).

The Villages are a great option as well. They're further from campus, and more expensive of course, but you have a 12 month lease (you won't have to move out during the summer/winter breaks). I'd advise having a car though, since there have been a few times where the weather has made hopping on the bus to campus inconvenient or impossible.

A word of Caution: Finding a great parking spot at GCSU is quite an experience. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Food and Dining
We have a running joke about the Max, our campus' dining hall. In short, if you eat there after being away for an extended period, you will get a case of diarrhea so fierce that your ancestor's will feel. We have a term for it, but I'm pretty sure I can't include expletives in my review. The Max is still legit though. Most of it is good, but some days the options are laughable (as in you're literally laughing as you stand in line). We have a stir fry line (which also occasionally doubles as our taco stand), burger/fries station, sandwiches, pizza, a breakfast nook for when you can't shake that waffle craving, and a diner that serves Fried chicken every Wednesday.

If you don't want anything at the max, there are a ton of options downtown and in the immediate area. Not only that, but a few of them offer pretty good deals. Asian Bistro has $2 Tuesdays, Amici's and the Brick have discount Wing nights, Kai Thai has a discount night on Thursdays and Saturdays. Then of course we have the fast food staples : Mickey D's, Zaxby's, Chik-fil A, Subway. Most places will take your Bobcat card as payment if you're short on cash.

Pro-Tip: Go to Cookout. Get a Cookout Tray with a Fancy Shake. You will thank me.
What to do for fun
Because there isn't much in the way of entertainment at GCSU, you have to get creative. We don't have a football team, so we won't have big blowout homecomings (ours are still pretty fun, though). There's one club that's easy to reach, and their music/atmosphere is pretty questionable sometimes. The bars stop being fun after a while.

So, if you want to have fun, make your own. Get to know the people who throw parties on campus, get yourself a tight circle of friends (at least one person should have a car), and make sure you have a couple friends who are of drinking age. Have movie nights, go to other schools, go out to dinner together, go to the school-funded events on campus. Some of my most rewarding nights were just spent talking to my friends till the restaurant closed.

If you think that you need to be at wild keggers from Thursday to Sunday for a good time, you're wrong. And if that's your thing, UGA and Georgia Southern are a very short drive away. ;)
Bang for the buck
Anything over $50 is expensive to me, not going to lie. But, as many have stated, it's a private school for public school prices. That library is the end all be all. Our GIVE center (for those interested in Volunteer opportunities) is literally the only one of it's kind. There is always something going on on campus. I have so many free T-shirts it's not even funny (yes, free T-shirts are a big deal). They have free seminars and workshops all geared towards making you a more well-rounded, thoughtful human being. We have little fun things like International Film (1st Fridays of the month), poetry jams, and the Midnight Breakfast. There iÃ?Â?s a movie night from some organization almost every week. And, to put the icing on the cake, we have puppy cuddling stations at random times of the year! Soft, fluffy puppies available for your cuddling needs!

I will reiterate this: it's got a Private School feel for a fraction of the price. You will not get the same experience anywhere else for the price GCSU is selling.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
(1) The traveling Green Towel. You'll get a green GCSU towel at some point during your time ere. Take pictures with it during your travels abroad (or to Cookout) and the school will post it somewhere.

(2) Sanford Hall is haunted. Cookie, the ghost, killed herself on the 3rd floor while the College was just a women's college. It's since been sealed off, but I've been told that Cookie is pretty sassy.

(3) There are a string of white house that once housed our art department in it's entirety. Those are old slave homes.

(4) There's a traveling duo named Brother Jed and Sister Cindy. They come every year around the Holidays to tell anyone in earshot that their life is full of sin and that their afterlife won't be pleasant. Everyone stops by during the few days they're in town to listen. Some people argue with them, I just laugh. Also, Sister Cindy will wave a tampon in your face, so be prepared.

(5) Don't step on the Bobcat in the center of front campus. You'll take 500 years to graduate, give or take a century.

(6) There's an abandoned asylum not too far away. For all you American Horror Story fans, I suggest you pay a visit.

(7) Speaking of American Horror Story, it's a pretty big deal. You can catch it every week in the Den (Student Activities Center).

Great for these types of students
Great if you're a student who wants a small campus, tight-knight family, private school feel while paying public school prices. Also, if you like a small town with a Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks kind of vibe, this is for you.
Clubs and Activities
There's literally a club for everything. You just have to find what you like.
Greek Life
There's a lot of them if that's your thing. Phi Mu, Delta Zeta, Alpha Delta Pi, etc.

Minority students, there are BGLO (Black Greek Letter Orgs) if you want them - AKA, ZPB, DST, KAP, APA, Mu Sigma Upsilon. They throw a lot of the Black parties on campus.
Campus Safety
If you need help at all, Public Safety is there 24/7. SNAP runs every night from 8pm till the wee hours to make sure you get to your dorm (or the surrounding apartment complexes) safely.

It's a perfect happy medium between the itty bitty- ness of Young Harris and the colossal UGA.
There is always something going on and all of it is something enriching.
The teachers are really what makes GCSU stand out; you can ask any one: these guys are phenomenal!!!
Tips for prospective students
The Village is a great place to live, it is the perfect balance of apartment living with all the safety of the dorms. It doesn't have those meetings every five minutes which is fantastic too.
Blackbird Coffee is a great hangout.
Go see a show! The theatre department is an intimate but fantastically talented group of students and the plays are professional quality.
Buy your books early and not at the bookstore, they can get pricey.
Milledgeville is a beautiful historic town, take advantage of some of the great sites like the Governor's Mansion or the Green Way.
Academic Rigor
I feel challenged in my classes but not to the point where I feel overwhelmed.
Dorm Life
Dorm life isn't for everyone, but there are a lot of great options. If you like to have your own space, I highly recommend the Village.
Food and Dining
There are a lot of great options for food if you're not really feeling the cafeteria, like Chick Fil A and Subway. And Downtown is within walking distance with a Barberitos right there and a couple of Asian restaurants. Eating at the Brick is a religious experience, even if the service isn't great at times.
What to do for fun
Like I said downtown is right there off campus, and there seems to be always something to do through the school
Bang for the buck
It's pricey, but financial aid has got you covered, and the experience alone is so worth it.
Great for these types of students
The hardworking, fun loving positive student
Clubs and Activities
