Tuition, Cost & Aid

Affordability and Cost

Average Net Price Average net price for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates paying the in-state or in-district tuition rate who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, or the institution. Other sources of grant aid are excluded. Aid awarded anytime during the full aid year is included.

Average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies and the weighted average room and board and other expenses.

$9,676
Out-of-State Tuition Out-of-state tuition is the tuition charged by institutions to those students who do not meet the state's or institution's residency requirements. Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

What Students Are Saying

I think I am really getting the most bang for my buck.
Aerion from Valley, AL
The University's campus is compact and easy to navigate. There are many things to do, and during sports events and other activities, there are many chances to get free t-shirts and other jag wear. The bookstore has many activities going on, in which students have opportunities to win things such as gift cards or other Jag souvenirs. The school also has many job opportunities to help students pay for books, tuition, or other expenses in the University.
Lauren from Spanish Fort, AL
Tuition at the University of South Alabama is one of the lowest rates in the state. It is lower than both Auburn University and the University of Alabama. They also offer numerous scholarship opportunities for students based on academic performance, athletics, and musical abilities.
Kristen from Fairhope, AL
The tuition is really cheap for instate, but a little more pricey for out of state. Being said, it's still cheaper than a lot of the universities in VA, which is where I am originally from. I pay less to attend USA as an out of state student then I did to attend my last college as an in state student.
Cecillia from Bassett, VA
Definitely a best bang for your buck on education and activities. South Alabama has great facilities, events, and more that help with the college experience. The best overall bang for your buck in the college search.
Raymond from Tuscaloosa, Alabama
South Alabama is not a very expensive college like some others but you will still get the same great experience here or better. Plus the college is always giving away something free.
Kendrick from Jackson, AL
The tuition is being raised but they are making many improvements to the university. They are building new dorms, classes, and entrances so it weighs itself out.
Kaitlyn from Mobile, AL
This school is one of the least expensive schools in the state and it has so much to offer from academics to sports, especially with their new Jaguar football team.
Dion from Birmingham, AL
It is really easy to get around the University. They have JagTrans that run every so often so that students don't have to walk all the way to class. It is really a life saver.
