Am learning a lot | Even though UK is a pretty big school, they make it more like a small school by keeping many classes with a low student to teacher ratio, so you receive more one on one time with your instructor, which makes it easier to grasp the bigger concepts and master the small ones. |
Am enjoying being here | I love going to school at UK. For me, it's just far enough away from home, but still close enough that going home is easy when I want to. Also, there are tons of organizations to get involved in, so I'm always keeping busy with something! |
Bang for the buck | Ohio's tuition is expensive, and it is almost cheaper for me to attend out-of-state at Kentucky as it is for me to go to school in Ohio. |
Tips for prospective students | Don't slack off during senior year! Schools still look at those transcripts! Also, GET EXCITED! You're going into your first year of college! It can be scary going to a big school at first, but K Crew holds tons of activities for you to meet new people and try new things. |
Great for these types of students | UK is a great school for any types of students! It's so diverse, it would be hard not to fit in somewhere! |

Am learning a lot | I've only been here for one semester and I've already learned SO much. The professors I have are quality professors that care about their students. Even though the university is of an exceptionally large size, the classes are an average size of 25 students so you can still get one on one with your teacher. There are also tons of resources for learning, including the W.T. Young Library which happens to be gigantic. If you need a quiet place to study, you are guaranteed to find it at the Willy T. |
Am enjoying being here | There is ALWAYS something to do at UK. There are so many clubs and organizations that you can get involved in. If you have an interest in something, UK most likely has a club for it. I would also highly recommend living on campus. It's so much fun and it's an easy way to make new friends and stay involved. Sports are also a big deal here. UK has a very passionate fan base. |
Bang for the buck | College is expensive... period. It's not that UK has an outrageous price. It's actually significantly cheaper than most colleges. The only thing I was disappointed about was that in order to get any of the scholarships offered by the college, you have to get a 26 on your ACT. If you don't, you have to rely on other forms of scholarship money. |
Tips for prospective students | Definitely live on campus for at LEAST one year. It's awesome! Apply early for housing though... or you wont get your assignment until late summer and you definitely wont get the dorm you want. GET INVOLVED! There are so many opportunities to do this, don't worry. Take advantage of resources like The Study (free tutoring), W.T. Young Library, and the Johnson Center (AMAZING physical fitness facility). Also... don't buy a weak umbrella... it will be destroyed by the Patterson Office Tower Wind Tunnel in seconds! haha |
Great for these types of students | Anybody! UK is VERY diverse and offers opportunity for any kind of student. |

Am learning a lot | There are a lot of things that I am learning in every class! Some people think that the larger class sizes are not beneficial- but I disagree. Everyone has something to contribute to the class, and my larger classes are what teach me the most. If you're open to others' opinions, you will learn something new everyday. Often when I sit down for lunch, at least one person has something interesting that they learned about in class recently that starts a discussion among the table. What makes the learning experience even better at UK is that the teachers are currently researching their field, meaning the students learn the most up-to-date material. It also helps the students to keep up with current events. Overall, I really like the way my learning experience is going! |
Am enjoying being here | There is ALWAYS something to do on campus if you're open to it. There are so many ways to interact with the univserity and the city of Lexington. Though Lexington is a little small for my liking, it's a nice city. You don't need a car (definitely a money saver!), and when you do, there are so many ways that UK helps you get around. The school pride is the best and that's what really makes UK so enjoyable. For example, when UK beat North Carolina to proceed into the Final Four (2011), just about the entire south campus (the main dorms for freshman) rushed outside in 37 degree weather to celebrate together. Being a part of UK is just such an extraordinary experience! |
Bang for the buck | UK could offer more scholarships, but being a public school I understand. I also wish that so many jobs on campus weren't just for those that qualify for financial aid. Overall, it's decent. The hidden fees are the worst- but what school doesn't have those? |
Tips for prospective students | Live on south campus!! That is where just about everything is at. Also- be involved in whatever way suits you. There are so many opportunities and organizations (sororities, fraternities, clubs, intramurals, jobs, study groups, religious groups, and more!). Don't be afraid to do anything, everyone is friendly (seriously!). Especially as a freshman, everyone is in the same boat and everyone pretty much understands that. College is like a second chance, especially at UK. |
Great for these types of students | UK is great for anyone, really. There are so many areas of study offered and extremely diverse. Whether you are experimenting with where you want your future to go or you know exaclty who and what you're going to be, UK can help you. UK is so eclectic that I can't say it's for anyone specific- expect for those looking to start their future today! |

Am learning a lot | Everyday that I go to class I am grateful and I feel as if my time was spent in a more efficient way. I listens to my profesor as he/she explains the material, and surely my mind is being stretched, and the way that I look at the world is completely changed. Overall the education is amazing! |
Am enjoying being here | I am having fun! Every weekend there is so much to indulge in that making a decision on exactly what to do is very hard. I met new friends (my roommates), and honestly the campus is so big that if I didn't want to see someone, I dont have to see them. |
Bang for the buck | UK is worth every penny they footed out of pocket for me to come here. I am very happy with my decision of school. |
Tips for prospective students | I would tell anyone thinking about coming here to take a few test trials of your schedule once you figure it out, because if you don't, on the first day you will be late to EVERY class :) |
Great for these types of students | I would say that UK is great all types of students. If you like the small town type of feel UK can offer that to you, but if you're used to the big city feel UK can offer that to you as well :) |

Whether you're just being a part of a 30,000 student community and supporting the Wildcats, or working in a small group to promote something you care about, there is a place for everyone at UK. You are never just another number. |

Academic Rigor | The courses at the University of Kentucky are definitely challenging, but that is what college is for. However, there are so many helpful opportunities. Dorm Life | The University of Kentucky is currently in the process of updating all of their resident halls. The buildings themselves are very nice living quarters, and the individuals chosen as resident advisors and desk clerks are always around and willing to help you handle any situation you may come across in the dorm. |
