What Students Are Saying
Hillcrest dining hall is better than Burge, but other than that there really are no issues here. As someone who eats clean and healthy, I was initially concerned that the dining at a big school wouldn't meet my needs, but I was wrong. Everyday there are a variety of fresh veggies and fruits available, and healthy meal options that are delicious. There's also a big variety, since you can eat at either Hillcrest or Burge dining halls or other meal-deal option places in Papajohn Business Building, the IMU, or the c-stores.
The cafeterias here provide a ton of different options each day. It is super convenient for everyone living in the dorms as there is one cafe on each side of campus.
Kevin from Crystal Lake, IL
There are definitely many options. We have two main dining halls, Hillcrest and Burge(one on each side of the Iowa river.) They are buffet style, and so it can be hard to make yourself stop! By the end of first semester, you will be convince you're tired of the food.. but after winter break you'll be really excited to eat it again! Dining is really cool because they will make theme meals for us like around Thanksgiving and other holidays.
Melanie
There are two dining halls here and both are equally great. There are tons of options which makes it much more enjoyable and all of the food was delicious. The setting of these dining halls is similar to a food court offering all types of food such as Italian, kitchen, Chinese, and a salad bar.
Ashley
Nothing beats Mama's cooking, but this school comes close. There is a wide variety of dining options all throughout campus, and everyone has their particular favorite.
Rachel from Fredericksburg, IA
I've eaten in Iowa's dining halls before and the food is fantastic!
