Am learning a lot | Even though the beginning of the classes are reviews from what I learned in high school i'm still learning new things that I find useful. |
Am enjoying being here | Being a freshman, I love the college atmosphere. |
Tips for prospective students | Don't play around your first year, stay focused, do your assignments ahead of time, & its very important to go to class. |

Am learning a lot | Lamar has great teachers who's willing to help you if you want the help. Some teachers put you in groups every class so you can interact with all the students in your class. The methods they use will have you feeling you can achieve and pass anything that comes your way. Of course you have to put your best effort into it. |
Am enjoying being here | I don't live on campus but when I am there I have fun. Organizations have something going on almost everyday. They have fundraisers offering delicious food to raise money for their organizations and have good personalities. |
Bang for the buck | Financial aid of course pays for education. Some may need loans and that's great. In the end when you have to pay it all back they give you information on how you should go about it. |
Tips for prospective students | Some students start their first semester off and get blindsided by the fun that they start to fail. I would prefer you balance out extracurricular activities and your work. If you were to flunk there's programs such as STARZ to help you get back on track! |
Great for these types of students | Lamar is great for students going into the medical field. In fact resources claim that it is the best school for the medical field, but its great for any type of student. |

Am learning a lot | At Lamar University, learning is the students' number one priority. The teachers provide great lectures that all students can understand. Studying is required for all these courses of course! As long as you put in the effort to help yourself, your teachers will help you likewise! |
Am enjoying being here | I enjoy being at Lamar University for a number of reasons! There are soooo many things to do! You have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and experience college life. There are ALWAYS weekly activities happening at Lamar Univ. but just make sure you don't get behind in your priorities! I am a part of bible studies at Lamar Univ. as well as Lamar's Baptist Student Ministry. |
Bang for the buck | First off, no amount of money can compare to your overall college experience! Besides, Lamar University is way too affordable for that! |
Tips for prospective students | If you are a prospective student interested in Lamar University, wonder no more! Just do it & become a part of something great at Lamr University! As a current student at Lamar, I would just like to remind you to STAY FOCUSED during your time at Lamar but remember to have fun! |

In three sentences | Lamar University is the very definition of Southern hospitality. The professors are flexible and enjoy working with students who have the drive for education. The campus is not too large or too small and is perfect for and uncrowded learning experience ideal for open minded students. |
Tips for prospective students | Consider Lamar as the place to attend if you desire to focus on your studies. I'm currently attending for Engineering and there are actually people in the department looking for jobs FOR YOU! Yes, there are people actually looking to get you into an internship QUICK! Lots of engineering options here, ideal for a economic hardship in this day and age. |
Academic Rigor | I would not say that classes are very difficult for ANY college. It all depends on the students drive. One will excel at any level of education with the right attitude. At Lamar the atmosphere allows for such a drive to influence students to pursue more than they believe they are capable of. The area of the college has nothing to do with ones internal drive for a better future. |
Dorm Life | At Lamar the dorms are perfect for me. I love the apartment style. Much better than the dorms at Texas State, which are just one room with 2 bunk beds. Lamar is currently expanding and gaining revenue to make changes to live up to standards one wouldn't expect the school to have. |
Food and Dining | Lets be honest, nothing beats mom's cooking! Especially southern mommas! The Lamar dining hall is catered by Chartwells and is decent. I do love the buffet style dining hall and the building is very nice. There are only 3 places to eat on campus and 5 if you consider subway and kampus korner, which are in walking distance. Other places are a 5 minute car ride, so not too bad. |
What to do for fun | College night off campus downtown Beaumont! Any of the clubs there aren't bad at all. Cheap drinks with a fairly crowded place. Good music. Don't get carried away, police DO show up around the parking lots. |
Bang for the buck | Classes are not expensive at all compared to other 4 year schools. The professor will help you excel because they aren't doing research the school assigns them or anything that would distance themselves from the students. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Stand the whole game! Be loud! You'll learn the chants, just show up. |
Great for these types of students | Social types of students will get along with anyone. No type of prejudice around campus. Also, looks aren't everything at all, just walk up to anyone for help or small talk. |
Clubs and Activities | Activities are on time and are a great way to meet new people that you'll most likely have classes with. Make friends, just in case you get sick and need notes later! |
Greek Life | Well rounded groups are on campus and will fit any niche. The activities are planned ahead of time and community service is something offered and what greeks should be known for. |
Campus Safety | Sometimes the safety feels a bit excessive but as long as you have nothing to hide, just move on with your own business. Some students do mess it up for others, but that happens anywhere you go. |

Am learning a lot | As many college students do, I've changed my major more than once. Have being involved in three different areas, I can assure you that each department is high class and the students’ education is a top priority. |
Am enjoying being here | There is not much diversity at Lamar. For the most part, everyone has the same background. Most current students are, in fact, local. |
Bang for the buck | Compared to other universities in Texas, Lamar University is definitely one of the cheaper ones. With that being said, this is a great school to take advantage of. The education received is priceless. |
Tips for prospective students | As you should with all colleges, a scheduled visit is a must. In addition, you might want to attend a sporting event. Sporting events help portray what the student life is like, while campus visits often do not. |
Great for these types of students | Southeast Texas Natives, engineering students |

Food and Dining | Food is good. |
What to do for fun | Join the clubs offered at Lamar! |
Bang for the buck | I'm so glad I get to spend a relatively small amount of money for great education offered. |
Great for these types of students | Pre-professional students. The reason is that there are a better chance to get to know your professors - great for letters of recommendations! |

Campus Safety | I feel very safe at the campus, even when I walk by myself at night. There are many posts with an emergency phone throughout the university. |

In three sentences | Lamar University really gives tips and tricks to help you with your experience. At the beginning of each semester there's a fun Week of Welcome filled with free food, games, and activities to do. Although it's a smaller campus, there's enough of a university feel to make the college experience nice. |
Tips for prospective students | Just go to class, it really isn't hard to show up. Most classes have a grade with attendance, so right there that's an easy grade. Never shy away from asking your professor for help. Ever! It's not embarrassing and use their knowledge to get better grades. |
Academic Rigor | There's so many programs to help you pass or get tutored. In the library there's even a writing center to help any papers you have to turn in. Each class has its own difficulty, but the professors make it clear what they expect. |
Food and Dining | There's not many options of places, so if you live on campus and gate a meal plan (you have to) then you might get bored. The buffet (dining hall) is great though. There's a lot of choices in there. |
What to do for fun | Visit the small pond, or sit in the quad. I wish there were more options. |
Bang for the buck | At the end of everything, you will still get your degree for a semi reasonable price. They are raising tuition in fall 2016, so that won't be fun. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | This year we started decorating a statue for every home football game we have. It's fun to walk past it and see it's ridiculous costume for the week. There's a bonfire in the fall and that's pretty nice. |
Great for these types of students | Any student! We hold the most international students in Texas. All are welcome and diversity is normal. |
Clubs and Activities | There are plenty of clubs, although if you want to join you have to research, they won't do too much advertising. |
Greek Life | HUGE. The Greeks are everywhere. The first month expect to be asked several times. |
Campus Safety | Police station on campus, I always felt safe. |
