Health/Health Care Administration/Management

As the baby boomer population continues to age, the demand for cost-effective and efficient health care increases. Health care administration management professionals are responsible for optimizing the care patients receive by overseeing the operations of a health care organization. This can include hiring staff, managing finances, and meeting with physicians or other personnel. College courses are management based, but have a health care slant. You'll study human resource management, corporate communications, and economics, but also take courses is medical law and ethics, medical terminology, and health care management. Some schools allow health care administration management majors to specialize in areas such as public administration, long-term care, or health care informatics systems. While a bachelor's degree is mandatory for most entry-level positions, management roles often require a master's degree or higher. Individuals who hold advanced degrees can work as researchers, health care executives, university professors, or health policy experts.
