Am learning a lot | The classes can be challenging at times, but are very worth while and you will learn plenty. The science classes tend to be quite challenging but aren't too bad. The philosophy classes are quite interesting and make you think quite a lot about things that you probably have before. Overall, you will learn but won't kill yourself in the process. |
Am enjoying being here | Scranton is a fun place to be. We just opened a new student center last year, it is quite amazing. We have plenty of sports, intramural sports, and clubs to keep everyone happy. The city is booming with plenty of things to do. There is a mall a few blocks away from campus along with a movie theater. Downtown is about 2-3 blocks away. There is a park few blocks up for those outdoor people. Whatever the need is, you will find it at Scranton. There will and is always something to do. |
Bang for the buck | The University of Scranton utilizes the money you pay very well. They have a top notch tutoring center. It provides many other services also, such as help with computers, essays/papers, etc. They have a wellness center and volunteer office. We have a great gym and recreational area, along with an outside sand volleyball pit, soccer field, tennis courts, and basketball court. Also, they have a new business building and will soon begin construction of the new science building. These are just the few things I can list off the top of my head. Overall, the University of Scranton is well worth your money. |
Tips for prospective students | Just study at least a little bit every day, and you will learn the material plus save yourself time from cramming and pulling all-nighters a few days before tests/quizzes. Try to stay active on campus somehow, whether it is clubs or sports. Most importantly take it easy and enjoy your time here. |
Great for these types of students | The University of Scranton is great for all types of students. |

Will enjoy being here | A brand new student center + the city of Scranton + endless activities and clubs = total fun, when your not studying of course! |
Bang for the buck | It is a lot of money but if you have the grades they are very generous in their scholarships and in the end you will be paying for quality |
Tips for prospective students | When applying don't forgot to include every little thing you have done throughout high school, it will make a difference in the end, plus you will end up paying less money! |
Great for these types of students | Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, etc.. |

In three sentences | The University of Scranton is a Jesuit University in the small city of Scranton, PA which is nestled in a beautiful valley in the Pocono Mountain area. Students and teachers are so kind and are always looking to help out others academically and socially. When attending the University of Scranton, students receive an excellent education and say they feel as if they grow to be more independent and learn to understand themselves on a deeper level. |
Tips for prospective students | Remember that college is an experience. Learn to balance schoolwork with social events and friends. Come to this school if you like delicious food! The cafeteria at Scranton is AMAZING for college food. Branch out and be social. You will find some of your best friends in life while at college. |
Academic Rigor | Classes are very hard at The University of Scranton. However, you really feel as if you are getting an excellent education which is a good thing when you pay loads to go here. Just make sure not to fill up your semester schedule with too many difficult classes at once. Also, make sure you check ratemyprofessor.com to see how other students previously rated a professor. |
Dorm Life | Dorming at Scranton is awesome! You are able to dorm with who you'd like and RA's are great! The dorms are more spacious than most and by Junior year students are able to live in brand new apartments and have their own room. |
Food and Dining | The food is DELICIOUS! Usually college food is fattening and bland but there is so much of a variety and Scranton and all of the students love it! There are about five different places students can get food on campus. There is a cafeteria, a Chic-fil-a, a mexican place, a starbucks, a quiznos, and a few other areas to get food. |
What to do for fun | I won't beat around the bush...Scranton is a pretty big party school. They say, There ain't no party like a Scranton party! Other than that, with a Scranton student ID, students can ride the bus for free which takes them to several shopping areas that also have movie theaters. There is also a mall within walking distance as well as many restaurants. The University also offers many clubs and sports for students to get involved in. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Parade Day: Scranton, PA has the second largest St. Patty's Day Parade. Students make the day of the parade into a day of celebration with drinking all day to celebrate. There are parties galore. The city makes a huge big deal about it. |
Great for these types of students | Roman Catholics (or non-religious), students who want a good education and want to party |
Greek Life | Since U of S is a Jesuit school, there is no greek life. |

Am learning a lot | They have great teachers here, you really have to work hard not to learn a lot. |
Am enjoying being here | I absolutely love being at the University of Scranton. The atmosphere is amazing, you can tell the people here are different than those on other campuses. If you need someone, there will always e somewhere you can go to talk to another person, whether it's an RA, teacher, counselor or someone else. |
Bang for the buck | The University of Scranton, although very expensive, gives you a lot in return. Just like the saying, what you put in, is what you'll get out. You really do get a lot from the school. |
Tips for prospective students | Figure out how to manage your time as soon as possible. |
Great for these types of students | Anyone who wants a school to get a very good education in the sciences or math-type majors. |

In three sentences | The U is an amazing place to meet friends you will have for the rest of your life. The facilities are all kept up to date, the academics are great, the professors are supportive, and all the maintenance, workers, staff, and students here are extremely friendly. There is always something planned by clubs or spontaneous going on inside capus or out on the green; this place will feel like home |
Tips for prospective students | Branch out, join clubs, pay attention in class and put in the effort now--it only will get easier to adjust from here. Take advantage of all the programs and services offered by staff, clubs, professors, and resident assistants; its a great way to get to know people, get free food or t-shirts, and have fun and make new friends |
Academic Rigor | The classes offered here are both interesting and challenging in all the right ways. The way they break down academic services by major really makes lining out your future very simple, and offer meetings with academic supervisors for every semester you register. There are also some very interesting free electives and opportunities to take classes outside of your major or comfort zone. Almost all the professors I have come in contact with are really great and supportive |
Dorm Life | The dorms are super spacious and nicer than most schools. There are typical double and quads offered for underclassmen, then once you become an upperclassmen they have houses and apartments on campus that you can live in with your friends. Areas outside the dorms are kept clean by the fabulous maintenance staff (who will befriend you and give you all the toilet paper you will need for months) and they have a lot of tables, green area, and even a sand volleyball court outside one of them. |
Food and Dining | The dining options are really good. As a freshmen you have unlimited meal swipes to use at the cafeteria style (which was rated one of the top in the nation for being so good and having so many different options daily), Einstein's bagels, or are fast food area which has pizza, chick-fila, zoca, and Quiznos. Starting the next year, you have availability to the Montrone pod which has really great fresh food such as chicken nuggets, grilled chicken, pulled pork, panini, and fresh made salads. |
What to do for fun | There are many sports (division, intramural, and club) to be involved in that are fun. Intramural sports are done for fun and not the commitment, and gives you the chance to win the intramural champ tshirts. Resident assistants, clubs, and student government puts on events weekly and almost every weekend such as light up yoga, field night, springfest, amongst other things. There are parties and bar life on the weekend too. This school is really low key with people doing whatever they want: the parties are extremely fun and super great, but if thats not your scene you wont feel like you're missing out because there is usually other things going on or restaurants/downtown in walking distance from campus. |

In three sentences | One thing that everyone notices when they step on Scranton's campus is how homey it feels. This atmosphere, coupled with faculty and staff who are willing to work with you and get to know you on a personal level, create a learning environment unlike any other I have seen. In my time, Scranton has offered me endless opportunities, and I am proud to call myself a Royal. |
Tips for prospective students | Come for a campus visit! Get a feel for the atmosphere, and get to talk to some professors. Most of them get excited when prospective students express interest in the school and their departments. Sit in on a class or two and stay in a dorm room overnight. Talk to alumni and current students! They will be able to talk about their experiences and give you personal accounts of the wide variety of opportunities Scranton has to offer. Everyone's Scranton story is different. Apply early if you are looking at competitive programs, such as nursing, occupational therapy, or pre-physical therapy. Spots in those programs fill fast! |
Academic Rigor | Courses are designed to challenge you, sometimes on an academic level, sometimes on a personal level. But, they will prepare you for "the real world" of your chosen career and as a person. But, don't let that deter you! The education you will receive is invaluable, and professors are glad to work with you, as long as you put in the hard work. |
Dorm Life | Dorms, in my experience, are relatively roomy. They are generally shared between two people, and there is a decent amount of room to move around. First-year dorms are typically small floors, and the RAs help to get you to know the people you live with that first year. As you go up to the sophomore "quad" style dorms, and the upperclassmen apartments, the RAs become less involved in the social aspect of dorm life but are still easily available if there is any trouble. The professional ResLife staff is also great. If you have a problem with a roommate and have exhausted the RA's suggestions they will be happy to work with you to find a better living arrangement. They understand the importance of your personal comfort and how it relates to the quality of your work and education. |
Food and Dining | The on-campus cafeteria has lots of dining options, usually with a few dinners and sandwich types to choose from each lunch and dinner time. Weekend brunch is a campus favorite. The quality of food is much better than other schools I have visited. It is like eating at a restaurant every night, rather than a high school cafeteria. There are a few fast service locations on campus, with a wide variety of options. The campus is fairly small, so you are never too far from the food, and often have time to stop and grab something between classes. If you head a block or two off-campus, there are a ton of great dining choices in downtown Scranton, that definitely should not be missed! |
What to do for fun | Scranton is commonly seen as a party school, but you do not need to go out three nights a weekend to have fun. Clubs and organizations hold events every weekend night, so there is always something to do on campus. There is always a movie playing somewhere, or a musician coming through, or a game night being hosted, or a culture being celebrated. There are frequently organized trips off-campus, to movie premiers, nearby amusement parks, and New York City. |
Bang for the buck | Though tuition is a bit high, it is well worth it! The Scranton experience is unlike any other. Courses are designed to push you to your potential and more than prepare you for graduate or professional school. The comfortable environment also adds value, with everyone involved on campus seeking to make the area both safe and homey. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | At the end of each semester, students in a particular class can be seen in the student center, donning togas, reciting Plato, which is always fun to watch. Each spring, the school hosts "Springfest," which is an all day carnival type party, which typically brings in well-known musical acts and DJs. |
Great for these types of students | Hard working, motivated students, who are looking for individual attention and want to push themselves to high achievement. |
Clubs and Activities | There are a wide variety of clubs and sports available for those who are interested. There are also countless service opportunities to get involved in. Student government is heavily involved in campus life, as is the campus ministries office. There are acapella groups, musical performance groups, and dramatic and musical theater groups. It is also fairly simple to start your own club or organization if you cannot find what you are looking for. Regardless of your interests, there is something for everyone! |
Greek Life | While there are Greek Honor Societies you may be eligible to apply to, there are no sororities or fraternities to rush. |
Campus Safety | Dorm buildings are swipe access only to those who live in them. Academic buildings are swipe access after 7pm and on weekends. Student officers and campus police constantly patrol dorms and academic buildings. The emergency alert system effectively sends texts, emails, and calls in the event of an on-campus or nearby off-campus incident, with updates coming in as appropriate. |

In three sentences | the campus is very beautiful and everyone is so kind there. i talked to students, teachers, and even people that worked with the food. everyone seemed willing to help you in any way possible and it has a wonderful atmosphere. |
Academic Rigor | teachers are usually in their offices willing to help you in any way possible. the librarians are very good at their job and can help you write papers or find tools you can use for research. |
Dorm Life | there is only two people to a room and you are allowed to have almost any appliance in there as long as it doesn't go over their limit. they have a paper you can fill out that is used as a match maker for your roommate or you can just go by random. |
Food and Dining | the food is very good and the servers are very kind. there are many options and they are willing to help you if you have food allergies, are vegetarian or vegan. |
What to do for fun | there are lounges on the bottom floor of the dorms where you can meet new people and socialize. there are also often trips to fun places off campus. |
Campus Safety | if you need to go somewhere late at night and don't feel safe going alone, you can call to have someone escort you. they take the students safety very seriously. |

In three sentences | The University of Scranton is a beautiful campus located in the city of Scranton, Pennsylvania. It is known for its academics and wonderful students. People will always hold the door for you here (literally). |
Academic Rigor | The academics here are difficult, but designed to benefit you in the long run. However, I feel that I can do well in class and still have a social life. |
Dorm Life | Dorming at the University of Scranton is amazing! The rooms are larger than many other college dorms that I have seen. Res Life puts on great programs such as floor dinners, outdoor movies, and the campus block party. The Junior/Senior apartment options are gorgeous. |
Food and Dining | The dining options are great. You can choose from 3rd floor DeNaples (normal college cafeteria cuisine with an upscale option such as lobster and steak, etc.), 1st floor DeNaples (Chick-fil-a, Quiznos, Starbucks, etc.), or the POD (salads and sandwiches). Everything is delicious! |
Bang for the buck | The University has a high acceptance rate into medical schools, dental schools, and graduate programs. I believe that it is worth the money. |
Clubs and Activities | There are countless clubs and activities on campus, anything from Ultimate Frisbee to Urban Beats (the school's hip-hop dance team), from Relay for Life to being able to volunteer at the campus' own free clinic for the surrounding area. Whatever your interest, you will be able to find a niche at Scranton. |
Greek Life | The University of Scranton does not have Greek life. |
Campus Safety | We receive alerts any time there is an incident on or off campus. Additionally, Public Safety is always around to assist you if you should need it. |
