Am learning a lot | The professors here are very nice and helpful to all their students. They try to work with the students as much as possible to get them on the right track and to succeed in class. |
Am enjoying being here | I am enjoying being here because of the simple fact that I am getting the college experience I've always wanted. I wanted to leave home, not because I hated home, but because I wanted to see what it was all about. And they have brand-new dorms! |
Bang for the buck | The University of Houston-Victoria is not at all expensive as other universities. You get the college experience you're searching for and you don't break the bank! |
Tips for prospective students | You should: -Apply for financial aid and admission early. -Take a tour of the school. -Talk to the professors. -Check for your major. |
Great for these types of students | This school is great for: -Students wanting the college experience for not that much money. -Students looking for a small college for more one-on-one teaching. |

Will learn a lot | They have several majors in my interest area. Like the idea that there is more face-to-face interaction with the professors. |
Will enjoy being here | Everyone was very welcoming on my campus visit. The tour was very helpful and sealed the deal with my wanting to attend there. Jaguar Hall is a converted hotel and has a lot of services & activities. |
Bang for the buck | They have several scholarship programs and is basically the least expensive public university in Texas. |
Great for these types of students | Students who like a smaller school environment with a smaller student to teacher ratio. |

In three sentences | UHV is a great college pretty much for anyone because it is low cost, has flexible schedules, and professors who will do anything to help you. The dorms were okay, but this past year they really improved and their cafeteria has really great food. Lastly, UHV is also a smaller school so the financial aid office is easier to reach, there's more one-on-one time with professors and they're alot of opportunities to start your own club or organization. |
Tips for prospective students | Try to get your financial aid in ASAP because they award by who turns it in earliest. Also, if you are leasing a dorm, don't wait to the last minute. |
Academic Rigor | The professors are very helpful, most of them do have really hard assigments, but they do so to really see who is trying in class which has helped me alot. The tutoring is amazing and the tutors really kmow what they're talking about. |
Dorm Life | Dorm life was okay, there's always something to do. They have poppin' Mondays, movie nights' etc. They also bbq at the dorms every friday and are in the process of making a pool. The computer labs are very convenient and are open 24 hours. The dorm is really secure and the security will even escort you to the dorm! The only bad thing is that the rooms don't have kitchens or living rooms. |
Food and Dining | The cafateria food at the dorm was always good! But if It wasn't there is a DQ, Mcdonalds, Whataburger, Sonic, and Wendy's in a 5 mile radius. Also, with your jaguar card you get discounts at most of these places. |
What to do for fun | There is a mall, two bowling alleys, mini putt-putt, a movie theatre, boot fest, lots of bars/clubs for those of age, and the beach is only about 45 minutes away. |

In three sentences | As with any university, you have good professors and those who are less than stellar. My classes are all online and sometimes the selection of online classes is limited. However, UHV is generally a really good school. |
Tips for prospective students | Start your financial aid process early. If you wait too long, it can go past the payment deadline date and then you will have to take out a loan to pay for your classes until the financial aid comes through. |
Academic Rigor | Depending on the professor, classes can be somewhat daunting or rather easy. Because I take online classes, there really isn't a choice in which professor I get for a certain class. |
Bang for the buck | For the tuition cost, UHV is a great choice. |

In three sentences | I love it here the school is wonderful the teacher works with you when you feel that your grades aren't going the way you want it to be.The other students help you out as well and the school makes sure that you connect with others they want to make you as comfortable as possible. |
Tips for prospective students | Become friends with everyone you meet, have fun, and open your mind to new things but keep your grades up and for every one hour class you have study two hours for that class. |
Dorm Life | I love the dorms the AR are helpful the rooms are livable and you automatically make friends when you least expect it. |
Food and Dining | The food is good i personally love the pizza the chief always try to be creative and she takes suggestions on what we want. |
What to do for fun | Play pool, ping pong, swim, and watch tv with friends |
Campus Safety | The campus police always patrols the area morning to night making sure the students aren't causing trouble or hurting themselves or others. |

In three sentences | UH-V is an excellent school for students who are determined to continue their education. The school is located in Victoria, Texas a small town with a moderate city population. UH-V does have three other locations where classes are offered including Sugar Land, Cinco Ranch and Katy- HCC. The school offers various programs such as Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education & Human Development and lastly Nursing. The professors and staff are very kind and demonstrate that they care for their students. |
Tips for prospective students | Students who are not sure if they want to attend I encourage you to call 361-570-4144 to schedule a campus tour. Students who are sure they want to attend UH-V I advise you to apply at www.fafsa.ed.gov to see if you are eligible for scholarships, grants or loans in order to pay for your tuition. When the semester has started if by any chance you may be in a tough personal situation speak to your professors first and they will understand. |
Academic Rigor | The professors demonstrate that they care about their students progress by sending emails at times about their academic progress. The students will also get to know their grades in advance by the majority of the professors to see where they academically stand. Professors demonstrate order by providing students with a syllabus at the beginning of the semester which lists rules, expectations and assignments and tests that will have to be completed during the semester. The professors are also very lenient especially when it comes to textbooks. |
Dorm Life | UH-V offers various rates for those students who wish to live on campus. Visit http://www.uhv.edu/house_meal.aspx in order to see which plan fits you best. The dorms are walking distance to the campus which means students can even get some extra exercise when it's time to go to class. The dorms are very clean and spacious (depending on which plan you choose). The dorms are secured and there is security around in case of an emergency. However, there are some restrictions as to what type of electronics are allowed in the dorms. |
Food and Dining | UH-V offers various meal plans for students. Visit http://www.uhv.edu/house_meal.aspx in order to see which meal plan fits you best. The food is really good it does make a student feel like they are eating at home cooked meal. |
What to do for fun | Students will receive emails through their UH-V email account with activities that will be offered for the semester including movie night and/or bingo night. The activities vary according to the school staff and clubs who may organize such activities. UH-V also offers pizza night or days in which free food or beverages are provided for students. |
Bang for the buck | University of Houston-Victoria is a great option for those students who do not want to spend a lot of money on tuition. The school also gives students the opportunity to rent books which can be a great advantage. |
Great for these types of students | UH-V is great for students who are seeking to focus on their degree. I attend the Cinco Ranch campus and it is a small campus that allowed me to meet almost everybody on campus and know the school staff personally. |
Clubs and Activities | I attended movie nights and they were very fun. The school provided snacks and it was a great way to interact and get to know other students from the campus. |
Campus Safety | UH-V makes their students feel safe by providing security during school hours. The school also provides cameras in the parking lot. UH-V will send students with an update via their school email if there were any terrorist attempts and if the school is safe to attend during a certain period. |

In three sentences | I would rate the University of Houston- Victoria as a 7 because the city of Victoria is not as grand as well as many adventurous sites to explore; however, the University itself is currently growing rapidly in terms of population. I enjoy the more intimate student to teacher relationships. There are no more than 40 in a classroom, allowing the students to receive more attention when needed. |
Tips for prospective students | Become involved and college life will be extremely memorable. Take advantage of the availability of the staff (including advisers, financial aid assistance, etc.) because others do not receive as much attention as quick and as well as the students at UHV do. |
Academic Rigor | 4 stars because no place is perfect, but UHV staff know how to come extremely close due to the attention they offer. |
Dorm Life | There are many events that occur weekly; join in on the fun and long-long friends are a guarantee! |
Food and Dining | They offer numerous choices whether it be waffles, pizza, salad, and even cereal for dinner! |
What to do for fun | Explore the city (mostly Riverside Park). |
Bang for the buck | It is one of the least expensive universities in Texas, top 3 I believe. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | It is fairly new; I am a softball player at UHV, and we have plenty! |
Great for these types of students | Shy Not shy Intelligent Not college material Full of Life Optimistic |
Clubs and Activities | Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Golf are all fun to watch! Our sister school, Victoria College has Volleyball and Basketball! |
Greek Life | I think there are 2 in process |
Campus Safety | Security are everywhere; they are always available to protect! |
