Am learning a lot | So far, the academics at this school are not too challenging, but the professors do keep me on my toes. As part of the Honors Program I was given many opportunities and was able to adjust rather quickly into college life and academics. |
Am enjoying being here | The weather is cold and sometimes it is a drag to get out of bed for food, but I have made good friends, and all of my teachers are there to help me. I fit in on campus; the people there are like me and I am enjoying the freedom that comes with being independent from my parents. |
Bang for the buck | One of the main reasons I am attending Brockport is because it is affordable. I will not be hammered with bills once I graduate and I do not have to be worried about wiping my parents clean either. So far the price I am paying has yet to disappoint. |
Tips for prospective students | Don't let the thoughts of snow scare you away from our campus. It gets cold, but the residence halls are known for warmth. And we have the best food in the SUNY system. No joke! Our dining services have been number one since 1994! |
Great for these types of students | Students who are not looking for a hippie school. Athletic types will do well here as well at prospective teachers. Basically every major our school offers is well rounded and a good fit, except for theater. Then you might encounter some problems. They aren't as top notch as some of the other departments. |

Am learning a lot | The classes are good. So far I have not had a tough time. The professors are engaging and none of mine so far have talked in a monotone. There is so much information to soak in. |
Am enjoying being here | The campus is amazing. There is so much stuff to do. Every weekend there is Late Night with Ellsworth and the theme for it is different each weekend. There are things that go on during the week. So many free giveaways and free food. |
Bang for the buck | Free stuff everywhere you go almost. Whenever there is a school sponsored activity like free messages they give away free stress balls. All the late nights include food and pop/water. The food is amazing. The classes are great. |
Tips for prospective students | Don't let snow and rain scare you away. Buy a pair of rain boots and you for sure will have a good time jumping in the puddles. The food is amazing also, ranked number 1 in the SUNY system. they also let you know which food is healthy and what is not by ranking it on their system of green yellow and red. the dorms get really warm in the winter you survive in shorts and t shirt in the dorms but bundle up when you go outside. go to everything you can they put on some good shows and late nights. |
Great for these types of students | outgoing. want to get involved. studying is a priority also. having a good time. |

Am learning a lot | My first semester went great. The teachers seem to really care about their students and how well they do. They are very helpful if your struggling or need advice. Even though it's a state school, the still demand excellence. My classes were not a breeze, but they weren't anything I couldn't handle. |
Am enjoying being here | I love Brockport. The day I moved in, it felt like home. The RA's always have an event planned and there's always something to do on campus. If you want to go out, Rochester is close enough to travel to. I feel like I belong here. |
Bang for the buck | In my opinion, Brockport is great. The people are very friendly. The teachers love what they do and want their students to succeed. The college provides lot of services to help students get involved in the college, answer their questions, and help them. There is also plenty of financial aid and scholarships available. |
Tips for prospective students | The most important thing is to visit. When I visited what I thought was my first choice,, I changed my mind. When I went to Brockport, I found it to be just what I wanted. Brockport was perfect for me, but it may not be for you. Even though senior year may be hectic, be sure to make time to visit. |

In three sentences | The College at Brockport is a home away from home. The campus is very diverse and has a lot going on so you'll never be bored. There is a lot of Brockport pride no one could be prouder of this college then the students here. |
Tips for prospective students | Get involved on campus! You'll have many adventure and networking opportunities along the way. |
Academic Rigor | Well college has to be tough in order to prepare you for life on your own. I can honestly say that The College at Brockport challenges you academically. We have great teachers that work you really hard but that's what's expected out of a college education. There's even an amazing program known as Delta College that tries to get students ahead of the game. You will be exposed to internship opportunities and improve career skills all as a freshman and this is just a 3-year program. In this program they don't want you to wait until you graduate to think about getting a career. You're career starts as soon as you set foot on campus. Depending on your major you can graduate in 3 years too because this program covers most of the general education requirements. |
Dorm Life | Dorm life is great. The Resident Assistants (RAs) and Resident Directors (RDs) are there to oversee you but they aren't your parents. They are fun to be around too. The RAs host events in the building in order for everyone to have fun and get to know each other. The atmosphere is great because everyone is friendly. Whenever you walk out of your room there is always a new friend to be made in the hall. Most of my friends were made in my dorm and I practically knew my whole floor. |
Food and Dining | Well we aren't ranked one of the top SUNY schools for campus food for nothing. It's buffet style, too. What more could to ask for? |
What to do for fun | Brockport Student Government (BSG) and the some clubs host events all the time at Brockport so you can go to events like carnivals, balls, or even see a drag show on campus. There's also Main Street where we have pizzerias that have pizza slice the size of your torso and an amazing candy store with chocolate in the shape of anything. My friends got me a miniature piano made out of chocolate from that store. The Erie canal is near campus so you can walk along it anytime you want. There are also shuttles that go to malls in Buffalo or Rochester. Rochester is also the hot spot for places to go for amusement as well. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Well we have this thing in the middle of campus called The Mall. When I heard about it I thought it was an actual mall but I was wrong. It's actually a big square in the center of campus where a lot goes on. A fraternity or sorority held an event where you had to pay $1 to smash a car they provided. Most events here involve FREE STUFF. There was a free hot dog day, an ice cream truck pulled up and gave out free ice cream, a food truck pulled up and gave more free food, and I can't forget the free T-shirts. This college is always giving. |
Clubs and Activities | There are a wide range of clubs (over 100) at The College at Brockport. They range from fine art clubs to sports to service to academic and much more. |
Campus Safety | It's great. There are campus escorts who are the University Police walking you to another destination if you don't feel save. We have Safe Ride where students can be picked up on campus to go somewhere else near campus if you don't feel safe. There is also the Blue Light System which is all over campus. All you have to do is press a red button and the University Police will be there for you. |

In three sentences | Brockport is a welcoming and wonderful college. Classes are challenging and interesting, but clubs and activities are just as important. I am so glad I chose Brockport, I could not be happier there. |
Tips for prospective students | Apply early so you have plenty of time to make a decision. Also, considering applying to the Honors College. They give great scholarships and I'm so glad to be a member myself. |
Academic Rigor | The classes are just challenging enough to make them interesting and yet still have time to be involved around campus. I have had several incredible teachers already, so I am very happy with my academic experience so far. |
Dorm Life | I was part of the Honors Living Learning Community my freshman year and that was were I ended up meeting all of my best friends and my roommates for this year. I would recommend living in the corridor style freshman dorms, because I think that made it a lot easier to meet people and form lasting friendships. |
Food and Dining | I came to Brockport with little expectations after hearing a lot of horror stories about college food, but the dining halls are actually really good here. They have a lot of variety and the quality is very good for a college. I have the unlimited meal plan and it's been just enough for me, I am very happy with Brockport's food. |
What to do for fun | The Main Street of downtown Brockport is only a few minutes away from campus and it has many great restaurants and shops. Most food places deliver right to the dorms, which is really great. Brockport is also a short drive from Rochester, which has several great museums and concert venues. |

In three sentences | The College at Brockport is a great school for nursing, sports management, exercise science, and many other sports related majors. Attending the college you will be able to know people and get involved with things that make you a very well rounded student. |
Tips for prospective students | Brockport is a very cold place so if your up for it, this is the place for you. If you like partying? The school can be pretty quite at times so that might not be so good for you. It is a small school so you will see lots of the same people over and over so it won't be hard to make friends. Make sure you visit and spend the night and then do it again for orientation. Go to events they have on campus, make friends, utilize the library they have lots of stuff, join clubs! |
Academic Rigor | The work isn't necessarily hard. It's honestly depends on your work ethic and the time and effort you are willing to put into your studies. Another factor is your major but anyone who attends the college at brockport will do well and we have a good bunch of faculty and staff who do care! |
Dorm Life | As a first year student I suggest you choose a double because I chose a suite and those buildings are really old. But you have your own bathroom and common area and that's better sometimes because I don't have to leave my room much to do things. There's little study halls in each dorm which allow you to study just in case your roommate wants to blast music while your trying to do your homework. But overall dorm life is fun, RA's can get annoying but that is their job.the |
Food and Dining | Brockport works around meal plans which allows you to go to the dinning halls. In the dinning halls, food is good at first but then it gets annoying. Sometimes they have special events or on special holidays they have really good food. There are also dinning dollars which you can use at some of the stores we have at multiple places around campus. You can grab snacks and drinks to go at trax, eagles nest, etc. |
What to do for fun | There are always activities going on around campus. Look for the flyers. There are chicken wing eating contest, friday nights with Ellsworth where they show free movies, spa nights, etc. |
Great for these types of students | If you like quiet, if you love sports, |
Clubs and Activities | There are many clubs on campus and they even have a club craze where you can see all of the clubs they have. There are always activities going on and flyers are put up so it won't be hard to miss. |
Campus Safety | Brockport is pretty safe. Since it is a small town the people are pretty friendly and walking around late at night isn't a big deal. They have this thing called safe ride that drives around, picks you up and carry you back to your dorm, there are also these phones which you are able to call the campus police if needed. |

In three sentences | This school is a very prestigious school in which expects a lot from each and every student academically as well as social aspects. Very close connections between students and professors due to the size as well as professors interest with having their students succeed. One will be set up for a successful future when attending this school. |
Tips for prospective students | -Create close relationships with peers and professor. -Stay on top of your work (do not procrastinate). -Get and stay involved with the school. -Attend social events as well as professional educational events. -Do not take these four years for granted, they will fly by! |
Academic Rigor | This is a very prestigious school in which professors expect a lot from you. You are expected to put your best work in everything that you do. Professors will push you more then you may expect you can be pushed. |
Dorm Life | Just like any other schools, the dorms are not beautiful and huge. They are just like a normal dorm. The furniture is in good shape, fairly new. And the common areas are quite large in the upper class man dorms. This school does have a two year residency but this allows you to really see who you would want to live with for the last two years of your college career. |
Food and Dining | We are rated number one within the SUNY system. Hot food is served for all three meals. And there is a huge salad bar that is open throughout the entire day. |
What to do for fun | On campus events occur regularly. Things are posted vis email and on the college website. Movies, sporting events, and other interesting fun events occur on campus, and for free (for the most part)! |
Greek Life | The greek life is small. This is due to the fact that this school is a big sports schools. Instead of a big greek life, the sports teams take place of that |

In three sentences | The college is very small which I like. The dorms are very neat and clean. The teaching here is wonderful. |
Tips for prospective students | Some tips for future students would be:l Do not let the college life get in the ways of your studies. Make friends with the same major as you. Get involved in student activities. The teachers want to see you succeed, so make sure that you are putting all your effort in your academic work. |
Academic Rigor | The professors at the college are wonderful. They all know what they are talking about and want to see you succeed. When teachers are not available for help, the college offers free tutoring. |
Dorm Life | The dorms are wonderful! They are all very roomy and clean when you first move in. All the RA's are nice and are here to help you. |
Food and Dining | Brockport College has the best dining services in my opinion. The dining halls are always making sure your food is fresh and that you get your meal the way you want it. There are two dining halls that are open pretty much the whole day, and once they are closed, there is tons of other on-campus dining services such as Trax, which offers phenomenal food at a cheap price. |
What to do for fun | For fun students can join a sport, a frat, a play, or club sport. This college offers so many exciting things for students to do. I am on the schools football team and I couldn't be happier with the program I've joined. The school has a fantastic sports program. |

In three sentences | Brockport is a small yet supportive community in which students can really be themselves and set out to be the best they can be. The professors really care if you learn and we have a great Student Learning Center for all your tutoring needs. The campus is also quite beautiful in every season. |
Tips for prospective students | Make sure Brockport is the right choice for you by attending an open house and perhaps even one of our Scholar Sleepovers so that you can get a feel for what living here would feel like. |
Academic Rigor | I suppose this depends on the courses you take. If we are talking Art 101 or a swimming class, of course its going to be easy. But if you take many Biology and Chemistry classes like I did, you will know the classes here are hard but fair. |
Dorm Life | I'm an RA in one of the Freshman Dorms and I truly believe the learning happens in the dorm, not the classroom. You learn how to live with others, how to do your own laundry, interact with fellow residents at building events, and of course start an independent living style. Our dorms are cleaned every morning by our cleaning staff and those who live corridor style also have bleached bathrooms every morning. We have lounges with flat screens, no-pay laundry rooms, and study rooms equipped with white boards. |
Food and Dining | We are rated #1 in SUNY schools when it comes to our dining experiences. Harrison and Brockway, our two dining halls are full buffet and are ready to accommodate every life style (vegetarian, vegan, etc.) |

In three sentences | Absolutely wonderful. SUNY the College at Brockport is a nice and compact campus that allows students to walk everywhere from their dorms (even to town). Campus is filled with amenities, a top notch dining system, student health center, gymnasiums, and free tutors. If that wasn't enough, Brockport is filled with dedicated professors who are willing to go that extra mile to help their students achieve greatness. |
Tips for prospective students | GET TO KNOW YOUR PROFESSORS! Even the nicest professor can seem intimidating while teaching a large lecture. Don't let that stop you. Simply introducing yourself after the first class can be a MAJOR step in your academic excellence. Professors are more likely to approach you about issues in your work and provide you with solutions if you take that first step of establishing that student-teacher bond. |
Academic Rigor | As said earlier, the professors at Brockport are determined for their students to succeed. Many stay late after classes to speak with students and others have open office hours that students can go to for some extra help. There is also the Student Learning Center that provides free tutoring to students. Brockport WANTS you to perform to your academic best! |
Dorm Life | Brockport consists of three types of dorms: the regular corridor style for freshman specifically, four person suites for freshman and transfers, and six person suites for upperclassmen. Dorms are renovated fairly regularly. As a whole, the students at Brockport are a part of a very tight-knit community, you will often hear people calling it the Brockport Village. |
Food and Dining | Out of all of the SUNY schools, Brockport by far has the best food. Each dish served is labeled for gluten, peanuts, and other possible allergies. Brockport buys food products locally as often as possible, ensuring the healthiest and tastiest food for students. |
What to do for fun | Town is an eight to ten minute walk away. There are a bunch of cute little shops, diners, and a movie theater that offers 1$ midnight movies to college students. On campus the Student Events and Recreation Center (SERC) hosts sporting events, lectures with guest speakers, and concerts (we just had B. O. B. here!) The Seymore Union also hosts Friday fun nights that can involve ice skating, movies, and even grocery bingo. Events are happening continuously around campus, residential assistants (RA's) post flyers in the dorms frequently to keep students informed. |
Great for these types of students | Brockport is a place for students who want a more intimate education. Who want to be a name, not just a number in a lecture hall. Brockport is for the students who want to be close to everything they need. But most of all, Brockport is for the students who don't mind the cold (that lake effect snow and the wind will get you every time! Brr!) |
Clubs and Activities | There are PAGES upon PAGES upon PAGES of clubs and activities at Brockport. There is something for everyone. Check it out on the Brockport website. |
Campus Safety | Brockport is a very safety conscious campus. Students swipe their id's to enter residential buildings, campus police are certified officers with the ability to make arrests, and police make regular rounds around campus as well as within the buildings. There is also a service called Safe Ride, if you are on or close to campus and you don't feel safe walking around, call safe ride and they will pick you up and take you where you need to be. This service is only offered after 8pm, but if during the day you find yourself needing a safe ride, you call the same number and they connect you to the campus police who will give you a police escort. |
