Piedmont University
Piedmont University is a private institution founded in 1897 and affiliated with the United Church of Christ. This independent liberal arts college operates two campuses, the main one in Demorest at the foothills of Appalachian Mountains and a commuter campus in Athens, Georgia. Piedmont operates the Lillian E. Smith Center, an educational center and artist retreat, and maintains the Compass Program to expand experiential learning outside of the classroom. The Piedmont Semester Abroad program also gives students the opportunity to study at the University of Nottingham in England or the University of Paderborn in Germany.
