I am not only learning a lot academically, I am also learning a lot about myself. Campus life at Mills College makes it a perfect place to learn about who you are and what you believe. Something I have discovered while here.

The professors know my name due to the small class sizes. I have made terrific friends due to the friendly atmosphere at Mills. All in all, I would say that my time at Mills College have been a very enjoyable experience.

Although Mills College does seem to be on the pricey side as far as colleges are concerned, I would have to say that it's well worth it. The financial aid offered at Mills College is also something worth mentioning. Mills College gives great financial aid packages and the financial aid office staff are always friendly and ready to help.

Don't be afraid to try new things and get involved at Mills.

Mills College is great for all types of students who are ready to be challenged academically and who are eager to have a well-rounded college experience.

They have the best of teachers teaching over 1,000 courses.

Well, there is a very diverse community surrounded by tall and luscious foliage. Every woman there will greet you, and they are very kind.

To be honest, I got a Financial Aid Award of $46,318 (which $6,000 are suggested in loan) while the estimated cost of attendance is $52,706. Another $6,388 are left for me to pay on my own; in ONE year! $12,388 on my hands while being in a very low-income family of about $9,000 a year. I will have to sign up for other scholarships I believe.

I suggest you really look at their website and visit their campus since not most women are sure if an All-Womens school is beneficial to them.

This school is great for the type of young women who are timid and shy, and need to blossom into strong and confident women, ready to go out in the world on their own. Since all your classrooms will be filled with women only, you won't have the subconscious belief that the male is superior to you. There is this type of equality in Mills campus.

Every professor I have had at this college has been enthusiastic and passionate about the subject they teach. Every professor holds ample office hours and goes out of their way to make time for meeting with their students.

I love Mills College, but the surrounding neighborhood makes me give Mills 4 instead of 5 stars.

Do some soul-searching before applying to this school. If you desire to become a strong, empowered woman during your college education, this is 100% the right place for you. If, however, you prefer to shrink away from attention or don't want to gain the skills needed to be an active woman in a global community, this might not be the place for you. Personally, I can't think why a woman would not want to become a stronger, more empowered person, so I recommend this school to every woman I meet.

Beautiful, tranquil, and supportive. Mills College is the absolute place to be for women looking to succeed in both academics and in the real world future that lies ahead. Cyclone ladies get all the benefits of a big school with highly qualified professors, visiting lectures, and their own museum; with all the benefits of a small school including tiny class sizes and personal attention.

If I had any tips to give someone coming to Mills, it would be to bring an open mind. College is already something totally new and exciting for most freshman, so take it as it comes! And don't forget to utilize all the resources Mills has to offer early on (Center for Academic Excellence, free peer tutors, writing center, one on one time with professors etc). Remember to not be too hard on yourself and get out there to make some lasting connections. You won't regret it!

Whatever Mills lacks in large class size, it makes up for in academic challenge. Because you have the opportunity to get to know your professors, and work on really personalized material, standards are high. But never fear, even if the class seems really hard, the professors here WANT you to get an A and are always around for support and guidance. Mills really does work to prepare you for graduate school or whatever your goals may be after your undergraduate education is complete.

The dorms at Mills are really quite gorgeous. The campus itself is over 100 years old, and most of the buildings are too! That means hard wood floors, beautiful detailing, and the kind of old world charm you can't get any where else. Each dorm also has a library/study for students to gather and collaborate. Also of special note, most rooms here are for ONE PERSON, no roommates unless you want them.

Cafeteria food is cafeteria food, right? Wrong! Founders Commons is the main dining hall on campus, situated on a hill from which you can over look most of the San Francisco Bay Area. The food is catered by a company called Bon Appetite, who prides themselves on farm fresh meals that are healthy and eco-conscience. There are always vegetarian and vegan options and compared with most dining hall food it is light years ahead.

Mills offers something pretty special to students, a free bus pass! For those who come without cars, its a great way to explore the city (and for free). Mills is very close to Berkeley which offers lots of fun shopping, ,dining, and entertainment. Students also like to take in the local sports, the A's, Warriors, and Raiders all play about 15 mins away from campus. Last but not least, we are close to San Francisco. Students often carpool to the city to dance or take in the sights, but Mills also has structured excursions to Alcatraz or other local hot spots.

Not to mince words, Mills is expensive. It is a private school with a hefty price tag. But, it is absolutely worth every penny. For that money you get person attention, tiny classes, amazing resources both academic and personal, an on campus library with a secret book room, amazing speakers and lectures all the time, and the opportunity to really thrive and succeed.

Mills has been around for a long time, and with that comes some unusual features, including a ghost tour. Every year around Halloween, the older students lead the freshman on a special night time walk about campus. Stops include the cemetery where Susan Mills is buried and Mills Hall, the historical landmark with bumps in the night. Another not to miss unique attribute is the special Book Room in the library where one can find a page from a Gutenberg Bible, a first edition Alice and Wonderland with hand drawn illustrations along with hundreds of other treasures. This campus gains a huge amount of character and interesting stories from its age, make sure to take a tour (ghost or regular) when you stop by and learn about the diamond cutting window.

Mills is the perfect place for students who live by the motto work hard, play hard. Cyclones are dedicated students first, but also enjoy a bounce house or two in the quad.

There are tons of clubs and activities on campus. There is a club for absolutely anything you can think of, and if not making one is a cinch. There is a club for the LGBTQA community, a club for latinas, a club for pre-med students, even a club for people who like to knit. In addition to clubs, there are many volunteer organizations that operate on campus that offer a great way to serve the community and build your resume. We have dances all the time, and they are usually the most popular activities on campus. Ask any student about Black and White Ball and you'll soon understand why.

There is one sorority on campus for pre-law students. Other than that Mills strives for a very united, communal, campus.

Mills is an extremely safe environment for students. For starters, at the one vehicle entrance and exit to campus there is a gatehouse, staffed by the helpful Public Safety who keeps a watchful eye and speaks with every non-student who enters campus. All dorm buildings are accessible only with a student ID and are equip with alarm systems. I can't say enough about Public Safety, in addition to protecting students they are kind, courteous, and never more than a phone call away.

Mills focuses on a variety of things including social justice, food sustainability, and environmental sustainability. Important discussions pertaining to these topics occur on campus in and out of class sessions. Everything is extremely important for racial, gender, and class equality and equity for one's future career.

I highly recommend to visit the campus because the architecture and landscape is beautiful. There are many helpful professors and college staffs. Do not be ashamed to ask for help! The Center for Academic Excellence provides tutors that I utilize frequently.

I believe that the college is competitive because all the students are very ambitions, however, the students are extremely helpful and likely to work in study groups. (Study groups are extremely important for academic studies.) This is a teaching school therefore long lectures are kept at a minimum. I truly appreciate the small classes because it makes class discussions intimate. Students are able to create close bonds with campus personnel. The courses are rigorous, but the professors are amazing at providing students with academic support.

1st year students are placed into a Themed-Hall Community. This is really helpful in making friends. Sadly the halls can be noisy sometimes, which can make studying and resting unpleasant. However, you can simply find numerous places to study all over campus or contact the RA (residential assistant) for advice.

Some students I know believe that the dining experience is not the best. However, I personally believe that the meals are amazing. I tried some dishes that were totally new to me. Some of the food can be repetitive like the breakfasts are usually the same. The Teashop is kind of pricey so remember to use teashop points wisely.

There are many campus events. Some of them are not exactly fun, however, the events are extremely helpful for your future. Furthermore, there are many things to do in Oakland or San Francisco. Just ask around! The Mills Shuttle provides transportation if needed.

Mills College is expensive, but they try to provide as much financial assistance as possible. I recommend that if you need more financial aid apply for an appeal (they frequently do not answer your appeals but at least try). As a small private college, Mills actually has many work-study opportunities.

Mills has a small creek that runs through the campus. I love it so much! (Therefore, I really recommend to visit the campus.) The APER (Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation) center frequently hold relaxing volleyball games on the meadow in front of the Teashop.

Students of color and allies. Students who are or want to learn to be environmentally friendly. Students who are a part of the LGBTQIAP community. Students who are open to difficult, personal discussions.

There are many clubs at Mills, but due to the small school size and focus on academia the club sizes are small. There are many activities that include sport events, and book events.

Frat and sororities are absent at this college. However there are many clubs and/or programs that are similarly inclusive and inviting.

Although the campus is open to anyone in the Oakland community and the front gate is fluid and relaxed about who comes on campus, I feel extremely safe at Mills. Public Safety is there for you at any place on campus.

Mills College has an amazing campus, filled with women dedicated to education and higher learning. The experience offered at Mills is displayed in the well-rounded students who attend the college. Mills College is a safe, welcoming educational community that orbits around enriching women with a challenging course as well as preparing them for life after college.

Stay on top of dates and deadlines, and stay focused. Do not worry or stress unnecessarily over tests and exams, since the faculty is fully dedicated to helping students.

The students who attend Mills College must be diligent, focused, and inquisitive to master the courses offered. The small campus and dedicated faculty and professors create a reliable support system. Mills College has a diverse population, which reflects the kind of women and faculty who are focused on enriching their lives.

Incoming students will be tickled to know that the girls attending Mills College are welcoming and friendly. More than 50% of the students enjoy a single room, while the option of doubling with a roommate is also offered. Mills College also welcomes incoming freshman by having them participate in Living Learning Communities (LLCs), to group girls with common interests.

The communal cafeteria at Mills College offers a wide variety of healthy, organic food and meals. A small cafe/coffee shop can also be found on the campus. There are four different meal plans that are offered, as well as vegetarian options.

Mills creates a social environment for girls by creating the Living Learning Communities. Each LLC focuses on a different topic that is meant to bring together girls with a common interest. A wide variety of clubs are offered a Mills, from Toastmasters to yoga.

Mills College is the perfect fit to girls who are dedicated on furthering their education, and enriching their lives, intellectually, socially, and personally.

Mills College is a very safe campus, small in size, gated with an entrance that is monitored by security.

Mills College combines beautiful scenery, with progressive thinking and social justice. This all women college reminds us of the importance of having goals and an action plan. All the staff and teachers are supportive and as eager as the students.

For any college, always make sure that the program you're looking into is highly regarded, and rigorous. Look at the alumni networks and look at the rates at which students get internships and jobs from teachers and alumni. College will end one day, make sure you ask questions and are prepared for the future.

You receive a lot of assistance when needed, but the teachers do not hold back on the their assignments, tests, and expectations.

Depending on when you enter, you get acquainted with your fellow residents through activities set up by your Resident assistant. There are a variety of residence halls, including a resumer wing (for 23+), quiet hall, handicap accessible, and others.

While any dining hall can get repetitive, Bon Appitit takes suggestions for food and implements them that same week. The food is always fresh, delicious, and offers a wide array of options for meat eaters to vegetarians to vegans to people who have allergies as basic as peanut to as advanced as dairy and gluten.

There is at LEAST one event per week, and usually multiple happening on campus the same day. If one wants to get off campus, they are only a fifteen minute bus ride from downtown and only a five minute bus ride from libraries, cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores.

Because this school was founded for wealthy white women in the 1800s, students now are privy to many school traditions such as the president's tea, the Junior/Senior celebration, and many other events that have clearly been around since the early 1900s.

Apparently the school is haunted, and while I never experienced (or invited) ghosts around me, many on campus believe they exist.

A resumer, a transfer, and a first year will all have very different, but equally fulfilling experiences at Mills College.

Just like any other campus, many of the clubs are run by a few passionate individuals with members dropping off here and there.

There is none but the campus isn't particularly friendly to it. Part of the reason is because our campus is so small, it wouldn't accommodate for big chapters, but we have a strong history of being the sister college to Cal State Hayward and Berkeley so many students join chapters from those schools.

The dorms are alarmed and public safety is always on the ready. There are blue alarm boxes and phones situated around campus. Not to mention the whole place is fenced in.

Excellent nursing program. Each of the classes pre-nursing students take is meant to challenge the student and in turn encourage an intersectional, social justice-based nursing practice.

Don' t let the reputation of Oakland or an all women's college keep you from applying to their nursing program! The education you receive at Mills is known throughout the country, and the academic rigor you experience remains virtually unmatched.

The pre-nursing program is structured in a way that is unique. Half of the curriculum is split between Mills College, which focuses on the liberal arts and fundamental sciences, and Samuel Merritt University, where the student starts clinical work. The two years spent at Mills are focused on the fundamental biological and social sciences needed to establish a social justice-oriented nursing practice. The more challenges you experience in your first and second years, the smoother academic transition you will have at Samuell Merritt University. Despite the immense challenge, the faculty is highly supportive if you have the courage to approach them.

Dorms are primarily single, and there is a rather liberal guest policy. Overall, the experience is entirely what you make it; you can choose to be friends with your neighbors, or you can't. Each dorm hall has a different environment, and can change due to the nature of the dorm selection process.

First years often do not have as much of a say in which building they will live, but their dorms are in one of the more convenient locations on campus. After your first year, you participate in room draw, where you and your friends can choose where you want to live. For best results, try to find a hall where you all can live together.

Mills College contracts Bon Appetit to cater their events, coffee shop, and dining hall. The food is primarily seasonal and local, though this often means a compromised selection of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Fortunately, the campus shuttle runs to a Trader Joes, and there are plenty of local farmer's markets around town.

Don't let the news scare you -- there are plenty of things to do in Oakland! The closest sports complex is a bus or BART ride away, and so is Downtown Oakland. There is also a shuttle that stops at the edge of UC Berkeley's campus.

Mills College takes pride in providing financial assistance to economically disadvantaged students. More than half of my tuition was covered by scholarships provided by Mills, and I only needed to take out federal loans.

Considering this is a 4-year BSN program, the academic rigor and networking you experience at Mills will enable you to find a position and pay of student loans in a very efficient manner.

Because Mills culture focuses so much on academia, it's often difficult to find a club that has an ample amount of members. The biggest student-sponsored event of the year is the Black and White Ball, which is the winter formal.

Sports are not absent from Mills. There is an active softball club, and DIII tennis, soccer, rowing, cross country, and swimming teams.

There is a gym and pool on campus. The pool is a destination in itself! Many travel all the way from San Francisco (and farther) just to swim in it. The gym has plenty of equipment to fit your needs, and friendly staff to teach you how to use it.

Greek like is non-existent at this campus. If that is the college experience you want, this is not the college for you. Or, alternatively, you could visit other campuses to party if you're looking to have a break from the Mills life.

Mills College has its own department of public safety. The campus itself is quiet and relatively safe.

Mills is wonderful. Everyone is welcoming, helpful, and passionate about what they do. The small campus makes it easier to make close friends with others.

I highly recommend visiting campus and if you are accepted, definitely attend the one-night program where you can stay for Mills at one night with a student at Mills who will be your host.

Mills professors and classes are very intellectually and academically enriching. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are so stressfully challenging, but that they are very insightful and complex in that you think in very different ways that allow you to become even more of an open-minded person so that when you are out in the real world, you are aware and critical of your surroundings.

Dorm life is great! The small size of the campus makes it even more convenient to get to where you want to be. Also, remembering that you live in a campus that has been there for so long, since the late 1800's, is pretty amazing.

For the most part, the food is fresh and home made. Vegan, vegetarian, and a whole lot of options are always available. It's an all-you-can-eat buffet, which is pretty cool. The food is good. It's not what you will get at a fancy restaurant of course, but it's definitely not high-school-cafeteria-like...WAY better than that. Can't complain.

One can walk around campus with friends, take a jog on the running trails, visit the Tea Shop, lie down on the grass in front of Mills Hall and read, get involved in sports and clubs, and attend events.

Mills College is little known gem located in Oakland, the campus is surprisingly beautiful and picturesque. The majority of students and faculty at the college really strive to uphold the college's mission of social justice, and overall provides a very open and academic environment.

It is important to visit the campus before making a decision to attend Mills, as it is a small liberal arts college and very unique, and therefor not suited for everyone. Getting a few good letters of recommendation really helps, as does having quality essays as those can sometimes be more important than test scores or GPAs. Be open to the idea of an all women's college, and have an idea of what you want to major in so you can make sure the school offers it.

Academically Mills is wonderful. One of the best things about a small private college is that the class sizes are always small (about 15-20 students per class) and the teachers really get to know you and your work. Every class is challenging, but in an inspiring way as the subject matter is often connected to social justice, and there are no easy A classes. The atmosphere of Mills is academic as well, it is not really a party school, and you are likely to find motivation and support from your peers.

The dorms on the Mills campus are very nice. Most dorm rooms are singles (you have to specifically request to be in a double) so you can have as much privacy as you want, the dorms in the older buildings are really charming and have a lot of character, and all the rooms are pretty spacious. Every residence hall has a nice common room, and most of the main common rooms have a grand piano which is a nice touch.

Mills really tries to provide good quality food with vegetarian and vegan options, and its is true the food is better than the unhealthy junk food serves at a lot of colleges, but it's not amazing. The breakfasts and lunches they serve at the dining hall are alright, but dinner tends to be lacking, and after a while it is easy to become tired of everything, as they tend to repeat the same foods over and over, still at least they are always inclusive and aware of various dietary needs and restrictions.

Mills really has a lot to offer as there are a lot of talented students in the arts. There is an art museum on campus, as well as a theater, and a music hall, and there are also poetry and prose readings. Again, it is not a party school, but the college shuttle does go right to Berkeley where there is a lot to do, and BART which can take you almost anywhere in the bay area so San Francisco is always an option as well.

It is true that Mills is quite expensive, as all private colleges are, but they do offer decent financial aid, usually more than public colleges do. If you can afford it, or are willing to take out the student loans, the quality of education you will receive is definitely worth it.

The college is great for anyone who is academically driven, those who might feel like they don't fit in other places, and people who tend to have more liberal social and political views will feel very comfortable here.

There are no fraternities or sororities at Mills.

The campus is very safe. Even though it is located in Oakland and you can often hear police sirens in the distance, the whole campus is gated and there is only one entrance with a security post that is staffed 24/7. Campus security also patrols the campus, and are also available to help with various things if you call them. The school will also send both email and text message alerts if anything happens on campus or in the surrounding area (which it rarely does). And the crime statistics on Mills are much lower than any other college I've ever looked at.
