Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services

Knowing what to say and just when to say it is one of the many talents that can serve a school guidance counselor well. From elementary school through twelfth grade, counselors play a vital role in our school communities. As a school counseling major, you could fill that role and help students of all ages. Counseling majors provide academic, social, personal, and professional guidance to children and teens. To do this effectively, they take classes in psychology, human development, counseling techniques, and social work. You may have the chance to do an internship or capstone program that allows you to get field experience before graduation. School counselors are typically found working in elementary, middle, and high schools. However, some choose to instead work at a district or administrative level.
