Technology has significantly changed the design and engineering fields. No longer do employees rely solely on hand-drawn blueprints and sketches - now, they're able to major in CAD/CADD or design technology and use computers to create designs for major engineering projects. CAD (computer-aided design) and CADD (computer-aided design and drafting) majors use advanced computer programs to create graphic illustrations of projects they're working on. They often go on to work in the architecture or engineering fields. People in the industry often end up applying engineering techniques to different products; introducing details to rough architectural designs; and specifying materials, dimensions, or procedures to other team members working on a product or structure. Throughout their studies, students majoring in CAD/CADD or design technology will learn about 2D and 3D modeling, animated engineering, and commonly used industry software.
