In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?

I have learned a lot about myself, my academic abilities, and my current major. I have also learned how to connect with people from all over the world.

How are you enjoying your time at this college?

I have mostly enjoyed my college experience so far. It has had so many opportunities for growth, change, and new experiences.

What tips can you share with prospective students?

I would say the best tips I have for prospective students is to work on your time management, don’t be afraid ask your process questions when you don’t understand the material, and get connected with on campus activities like clubs and pop up events.

What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?

My ability to apply myself to my work because of my desire to succeed has made a huge impact on my ability to succeed here. College is a chosen academic pursuit meaning you have to choose to put in the work

In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?

The material is only difficult if you are not willing to put in the time and effort to learn it. It causes you to challenge yourself through the necessity to put on the work, do the research, and apply yourself.

How would you describe the dorm life at this school?

I have only had experience in the freshmen girls dorm and it has been totally different than I expected. There’s so much opportunity for community because of the common areas and roommates. And it requires you to be willing to work clean up after yourself, work out issues with roommates, and get to know people.

How would you describe the food and dining options?

The food and dining options are somewhat limited because of the size of the school. But there are also options like vending machines and the snack bar. There are enough options to work.

In your experience, what is there to do for fun at this college?

There are lots of school sponsored events, expositions, and clubs to get involved with. There’s always a sports event to go to and plenty of people to get connected with to find your own fun.

In what clubs or organiziations have you participated and how have they impacted your overall experience?

I have participated in Christian ministry clubs, missions work sponsored by the school, and plenty of the sports expositions. They have all been positive and I have enjoyed them a lot.

Are there any quirky or unique traditions that make your college special?

Koinonia is the schools pre-class program where you can come on campus a few days before move in day and participate in lots of fun bonding and outreach experiences to connect with fellow students.

How does this institution support campus safety or mental health and wellness programs?

We are all required to complete title nine training, are constantly sent emails to give us access to resources to understand and report safety and mental health issues, we are consistently reminded of the health services in campus, and reminded of the campus security and police where we can report issues.

How has your college supported your career development and future goals?

My college has really worked with me to why on track to meet my goals, but prepare me for my career, and get me connected with future career options. All of my professors and advisors have consistently reached out to help me answer questions and get prepared for my future.

Wayland Baptist University is a school where the students are not faces in a crowd. The professors make it their goal to see you walk that stage with a degree in your hand. I have never felt this cared for at a school, and I can not imagine a better place to go for education.
Tips for prospective students
The financial aid and business offices are there to help you as much as they can. They are kind and helpful which is something a lot of departments at other universities can lack.
Academic Rigor
It may be in a small town, but the piano proficiency they require music students to pass is one of the most difficult in the state of Texas. The teachers want you to learn. Everything they teach you in your courses is completely necessary to your degree plan and career path in some way.
Dorm Life
The dorms are nice. The people in them are what make them well above average. While there are restrictions on items you may have in the dorms, the RA's are not too strict. They are going to school just like you are, so they can understand a messy room around finals.
Food and Dining
The cafeteria food is not great, but it gets the job done. Sometimes it is stellar. Sometimes it is sub par. Most of the time the food is adequate.
What to do for fun
The Brew. It is definitely the place to go to hang out for everyone. It is owned and run by one of the English professors and his wife. There are also different shops around town you can browse in. There is a movie theater on the west side of town, and the Laney rec center has pool tables and ping pong tables in the lobby.
Bang for the buck
You get 5 star education for a 3 star price. There are intimate relationships with professors that stay professional. It is not strange to see the dean of a department eating lunch or dinner with a few students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
The Marsh. It was nicknamed this due to its behavior in the rare rain storms the town gets. After sprinklers run or rain falls, this big open patch of land that stretches from the Harral auditorium to the Library and Resources Center turns into, well, a marsh. It is just muddy enough to sink the soles of your chuck taylors up to the canvas.
Great for these types of students
Obviously christian students will feel comfortable at the baptist university, but that doesn't mean other religious or none religious students will feel uncomfortable. If you are looking to get a great education and you mean it, then this is where you belong.
Clubs and Activities
There are a few clubs that are mostly student run. Asking your departments secretaries and assistants if a great way to learn about them if your queries have been answered by silence from students.
Greek Life
Aside from the one sorority and fraternity, there are not any other forms of greek life on this planet. The goal they strive for is to teach the students how to mature and become good christian adults and leaders as they go out into the real world.
Campus Safety
I have never felt unsafe while on campus, but that doesn't mean you can leave all doors unlocked. Keep your expensive/private possessions where you know they will be safe just in case.

Am learning a lot
The professors at Wayland have an enormous amount of passion for the students they are helping. Class sizes are fairly small, which allows for a much more personal, one-on-one education. At Wayland, students are more than just grades next to a number; they're real people with real potential, and that's rare in the college world!
Am enjoying being here
Plainview is a small town with not much to do, but don't let that stop you! Less distractions make it easier to focus on making your education your number one priority; however, Lubbock and Amarillo are both very close and offer plenty of student-friendly activities for the days that you just need a break.
Bang for the buck
As a private school, tuition at Wayland is more expensive than what you will find at other nearby universities, but the education and the experience gained are well worth it. Wayland is growing, and always opening new opportunities for students to find financial aid, especially for athletes.
Tips for prospective students
If you're thinking about coming to Wayland, make sure you schedule a visit before you make any big commitments. Allow yourself enough time to really get a sense of what life at Wayland is like. There are several opportunities for perective freshmen and transfer students to stay over the weekend on campus for concerts and such, so take advantage of them! Eat the food, talk to the students, and meet a few professors. You'll be glad you did!
Great for these types of students
Wayland is best suited for students with an appetite for broadening their horizons. As a Baptist university, you should be willing to commit an hour of your day every Wednesday to the mandatory chapel service, and be prepared for stricter rules than those you will find at public universities. It may sound like a lot, but Wayland will benefit every aspect of your life: education, relationships and spiritual maturity. Be prepared to walk across the stage as a better person, fully equipped to impact your world!

Wayland is a great school that has a lot to offer. The staff really cares about the students and they want to see us succeed. The transition from high school to college was much easier than I expected and that is primarily because of the staff and their willingness to help.
Tips for prospective students
Wayland has brought football back after a 70+ year break and they are ready to get in on the action. The coaches are awesome and want to teach the students the great game of football. It's a great time to get in on a new team and play some ball!
Academic Rigor
The professors are extremely helpful and willing to help the students. They make themselves available and seem to really care about the students.
Dorm Life
The Jimmy Dean Dorm is brand new and is a fantastic dorm. The dorm is better than some hotels.
Food and Dining
Wayland has some great food and it's all you can eat so you won't go hungry! We have a great selection and there's always plenty.
What to do for fun
Plainview is a small town but don't let that fool you. We have plenty to do and we can always travel to Lubbock if we can't find it in Plainview.
