Am learning a lot | The Cool thing about UM is the diversity of the school and the city of Miami. I've met people from every corner of the country and the world and that's the best part about college, of course learning in class but also learning from those who are not the same as yourself. |
Am enjoying being here | The campus is beautiful, I definitely encourage you to visit. There's always something to do either off campus or on campus. |
Bang for the buck | UM is a private school so it can get expensive. So I can understand if some people are turned off by the price but I have a pretty good financial aid package and they try to help you out financially. |
Tips for prospective students | UM is not Harvard or MIT but it is a very competitive academically. The student body and staff hold themselves to very high standards. So first and foremost, you need to be about academics if you want to come to my school. Not only that but a robust student. Extracurricular activities are very important. |
Great for these types of students | You will like UM if... You are a nerd You want to learn about different cultures You like to learn you like to party you hate the cold you like to tan Truthfully, UM is for any type of student as long as you put effort into your craft. |

Am learning a lot | One of the great things about University of Miami is that they have top-notch professors in every area of study. Also, small class sizes allow students a lot of one-on-one time with professors to enhance the learning experience. |
Am enjoying being here | The campus is beautiful, weather is great, and student services and activities are abundant. It is easy to get involved in things on campus, and there are many student resources that can provide tutoring, health services, help with career planning, and much more. |
Bang for the buck | Although the University of Miami is an expensive private school, they provide many scholarships, work study and financial aid opportunities, and the quality of education there is definitely worth the expense. |
Tips for prospective students | The essay portion of the application is crucial. Write something that makes you unique and shows that you have potential as a student. Don't be afraid to make it personal, either. |
Great for these types of students | Students that enjoy small class sizes, and don't want to live in a college town. The University's campus is beautiful and has many activities of its own, but it is also surrounded by a fun-filled and exciting city. |

Am learning a lot | The professors here are truly one of a kind! They are doing individual research so they are very in love with learning and helping their students! I don't know of a better university of this level of student-teacher interaction. They are vivid and legendary professors at this University! |
Am enjoying being here | The scene, the people, the beach...everything is breath taking! The campus itself is filled with palm trees and lakes, the people are very friendly and everyone is looking to help each other. The urban location is key, the beach and Miami beach are just minutes away. I believe it's the perfect place for work and play. |
Bang for the buck | Yes, UM is a private school and it can get very expensive at times, but I believe it is worth every penny. You definitely get what you pay for at this University. The financial packages at this school are also one of a kind, they are always trying to help! |
Tips for prospective students | Definitely apply early action if you know this is the school for you! Join the facebook groups, they actually help. Everyone is really friendly and I got to know a couple of people even before I set foot on campus! |
Great for these types of students | This is the most well-rounded school you could possibly find. If you enjoy studying hard, meeting influential people, enjoy Miami nightlife, making great networking skills for the future, then this is the University for you! |

Am learning a lot | As far as academics go, its a competitive field. So come ready to learn many new and exciting things from top of the line professors, many whom have a number of years experience in the subjects they teach. |
Am enjoying being here | I love it and I'm sure u will too. There's never a dull moment and the people you meet are awesome! |
Bang for the buck | It cost a pretty penny but its worth it. Cappex will help u find scholarships so no need to fear! |
Tips for prospective students | The University of Miami...Welcome to the wonderful world of wildlife, sports, nightlife, sunshine, academics and cultural diversity. UM sets high standards for its students and is constantly challenging us. Another good point to mention is the diversity aspect; we come from all over the world...literally. We are represented by the one and only Sebastian Ibis who never fails to get the crowd hype. And once you're apart of this family, there is no doubt that you'll bleed orange and green for life. The pride at the University of Miami runs thick as we support our fellow Hurricanes in all endeavors. So take a dive on the wild side and make sunny Coral Gables, FL and the University of Miami your college destination! |
Great for these types of students | Great for anyone who enjoys sunshine, relaxation and most importantly, academic challenges. |

Am learning a lot | I am currently seeking a dual degree in Computer Engineering and Psychology, with a double minor in Theatre and Mathematics. THAT is a lot to be studying! But University of Miami really makes it all possible! Here, they want you to study whatever you want, which is one of the major reasons I decided to come to this amazing school. |
Am enjoying being here | The atmosphere here is magnificent. An overwhelming majority of the students are incredibly dedicated to their schoolwork and grades, but, at the same time, there is a spirit of wanting to help one another succeed, rather than one of a competitive nature. Additionally, the weather (and campus) here is simply gorgeous. |
Bang for the buck | I understand that UM is a very expensive private school, and I know I wouldn't have been able to come here without a good amount of scholarship. But that is exactly what I have, and, as a matter of fact, more than 75% of the people that I know here are on great scholarship. As for the school's worthiness of its price tag, I would say that it lives up to one's every hope and expectation. and that UM will help you succeed in whatever you want. That's all that one can ask for. |
Tips for prospective students | Study hard, play hard. That expression is so easy to accomplish here. On the one hand, you have numerous academic facilities just waiting to answer any question you might have. On the other hand, there's the nightlife of Miami, complete with 18+ clubs so that everyone can be legally included in the fun. Another tip: have fun. It's okay if you don't know what you want to study freshman year. That's what college is supposed to be for!! Explore your interests, figure out what you love and how to make a career out of it. Learn to love to learn. |
Great for these types of students | -Dedicated students who want a school with a smaller to medium-sized population but one that still feels like a large university due to its programs, athletics, and environment -Students that want to have FUN -Students who don't like winter -Students who want an unforgettable college experience that truly prepares them for what lies ahead |

In three sentences | the university of miami is an extremely beautiful college with a focus on the students. the academics are challenging and rewarding, but the school also has top-tier sports teams that students can cheer on to relieve their stresses. this is all set in the culturally diverse city of miami, where students can experience multitudes of cultures before graduating. |
Tips for prospective students | classes are small because the university wants its students to build relationships with professors, so do that. professors in your major will be excellent sources of research job opportunities, letters of recommendation, and mentoring. use the on-campus amenities to the fullest. the wellness center is enormous and the perfect place to practice your sport or get in shape. sports games are free for students and a great way to spend an evening. shuttles are available for certain off-campus hotspots, and those are free with student id as well. |
Academic Rigor | classes are small and rigorous enough to be rewarding, but they usually never go overboard. professors are reasonable in their workloads, but have pretty high expectations for students. a lot of classes are graded fairly, and professors are welcoming and willing to answer class-related questions. |
Dorm Life | the dorms are smaller for freshmen, but give you the opportunity to build a sense of community early on. nearly all freshmen are paired with a roommate in a two-person room (but you do have the option of more room setups in later years). each floor has a bulletin board that posts all the on-campus activities going on, so that's a good place to make plans. |
Food and Dining | um has two dining halls, a food court, several foot stands across campus, and an on-campus sports bar. there are plenty of off-campus spots within walking distance, including shake shack and spring chicken. the variety of food options is enough to keep you satisfied for your time at um. the university is actively trying to make the dining halls and on-campus eateries more vegan, kosher, and halal friendly. this initiative can be noticed, and the menus for these diets have been expanding almost monthly |
Bang for the buck | the sticker price is quite high, but there are plentiful opportunities to mitigate that. scholarships for freshmen and transfers have the potential to cover anywhere from 25-100% of the expenses. once you graduate, you will find that the local area loves um graduates. former hurricanes hold leadership positions around the city and will gladly hire um grads. |
Great for these types of students | students who hate the cold students who like to balance academics with sports/social activities |
Clubs and Activities | clubs are plentiful and cater to an immense variety of interests and pastimes. organizations based on heritage, interests, hobbies, academics are all present on campus. these organizations usually meet in the evening, after all class sections, so there are never conflicts. facilities for organizations are plentiful, spacious, and available. the student center complex and university center have facilities that are free to rent for student organizations, so most clubs meet in these fully equipped spaces. |
Campus Safety | the campus police has a strong presence on campus, and they have a very active email system. if you have your student email on your phone, you can get immediate alerts of any questionable activity on/near campus. the umpd also provides safety escorts for any long walks. the service is complately at the student's discretion, and your request will never be denied. the campus is extremely prepared for weather emergencies. the university and individual dorms provide information and guidance for students who have never experienced hurricanes before. supplies are plentiful after major storms, so things keep moving smoothly afterward. |

Am learning a lot | This university offers a lot of different programs for students. They have different fields of study, and have over 200 majors to choose from. With small class sizes, as a student, you really get individualized attention. In the School of Communication, my class sizes are no more than 20 people per class. They also offer many study abroad programs, some venturing to places one would never even dream of going out to. Some of these places include Moscow, Morocco, Israel, Egypt, China, and South Africa. Opportunities are endless here. |
Am enjoying being here | The weather is nice, being that the school is located in South Florida, and in Miami. The campus is very different from the regular humdrum academia campuses; there are no large brick buildings, many classes are taken outdoors, and there are plenty of palm trees to go around. This campus is really beautiful. |
Bang for the buck | Well, this is the one thing that I don't like about UM -- tuition costs. For paying about $54,000 a year, one would assume that they are getting a royal treatment. Sure, the diversity is great, the campus is located in the prime of South Miami, and the classes are great, but the tuition is expensive. |
Tips for prospective students | Make sure you explore all your options. While this is a great school, you need to make sure that the prospective major you are choosing is included at UM. Don't come here because you want to see warm weather - you have the rest of your life to see that. Come down to Miami because of the educational opportunities available here. Come down because you know you will receive the best undergraduate/graduate education here. Make your decisions after you visit all your chosen schools and make a decision based on financial need. It is very expensive to attend this school. |
Great for these types of students | The University of Miami is great for students who want to major in: Architecture, Pre-med, all science majors, music majors, political science majors, communication majors (including advertising and public relations), and pre-law majors. This school really has an extensive array of choices. You will always have a colorful palate to choose from here at UM. Also, the school is great for those looking to dip their feet into different cultures. Almost 52% of the kids attending UM are out-of-state kids, and they all come from different countries and backgrounds. This would be a great place to meet different people. If you are into that, then UM is the place to be! |

In three sentences | The University of Miami is a prestigious school with a lot to offer. The school is diverse and gives a small university feel in a big town environment. The University of Miami is a great place to go to school because it provides a good degree, has something for everyone, and is located in beautiful Miami. |
Tips for prospective students | Prospective students should know that the University of Miami takes the best subject score of the ACT. Should you take the ACT more than once it will take the highest composite score and break apart the subject scores from each test. It combines them all for your best possible scores. |
Academic Rigor | This school provides a great degree in many different fields. A degree from the University of Miami can help you greatly in the job search. There are many different class levels depending on student skills and their preferences. The University of Miami also has excellent law and medical schools. |
Dorm Life | Dorm life doesn't differ much from school to school, but the University of Miami has one thing most other schools don't: community awareness. This university strives to create a good environment for all of the residents. The dorms do their best to make everyone feel welcome and stay involved. |
Food and Dining | The University of Miami has great dining services. There are two dining halls on campus, a food court, and other vendors. The dining halls always attempt to provide diverse dishes to appeal to the diverse palettes in our school. Our dining halls also try to have a consistent meals, so you know there's always something to eat. |
What to do for fun | Our school constantly sets up fun activities for all students. There are many sporting events to attend to and tailgates are always so much fun! There are always off campus parties to go to. The fraternities have themed parties often and make the weekend so much more exciting. Also, it's the University of Miami so the beach is always an option. |

Am learning a lot | Even some of the introductory classes are harder than high school classes. If you're in the honors program, you will be challenged by the honors classes, but if you aren't, the second level classes (especially in science) are very challenging. |
Am enjoying being here | I love the atmosphere around campus. There's always something to do on the weekends and most people are friendly. Also, the weather is great year round. |
Bang for the buck | The school is very generous with merit scholarships compared to other universities in the top 50. Although the cost of attendance is expensive, the financial aid definitely makes it a great value for top 50 university. |
Tips for prospective students | Apply early action. |
Great for these types of students | Pre-med, musicians, high school athletes, those who enjoy warm weather |

Am learning a lot | There is wide variety of classes that students can take. Even if you already know what major you intend to study, the opportunity to take classes outside that specific study is always available. The professors genuinely care for each student and are always willing to help with questions or concerns. |
Am enjoying being here | There is no better place than UMiami. People are extremely friendly and always ready to have a good time. There are so many activities on campus, and off, to fill extra time. Students truly care about the sports teams too, so heading to a football or basketball game is a great way to meet new people and cheer on the Canes. |
Bang for the buck | Although the tuition may seem a bit pricey, it's 100% worth it. The variety of classes, the experience of professors, and the overall life at UMiami make students feel comfortable. The school really prepares students for the real world during and after college, and assists in as many ways as possible to help them transition. |
Tips for prospective students | Join clubs or organizations! It's such an easy and fun way to make new friends while doing something you enjoy. |
Great for these types of students | UMiami is great for any student. The population is so diverse so everyone is able to fit in nicely. |
