Did learn a lot | At Tarleton I learned a lot both academically and about myself as a person. College opens up so many doors to learn about life. The way Tarleton goes about its education and family like feel on campus just benefits its students in so many ways |
Did enjoy being here | I am so glad I decided to attend Tarleton. It literally became a second family and home for me. Tarleton offers so many different opportunities for its students to meet new people and make life long relationships with people. I currently am not attending due to financial reasons, but I am planning on returning in the spring because I do miss my Texan family, and want to return ASAP! |
Bang for the buck | As one of the least expensive state schools in Texas, you do get a wonderful education and have so many open opportunities on campus, whether its Greek Life, tailgating, campus movie nights, sporting events, and many many more, you will have an enjoyable yet educating experience at this school. |
Tips for prospective students | Go to Duck Camp so you can make friends before the school year starts, get involved with on campus activities, and just have fun, but do keep up with your studies and don't procrastinate! |
Great for these types of students | If you want a school that is in a small Texas town and you literally become part of a family, then Tarleton is a GREAT decision. With a student population of about 10,000 you are able to make a lot of new friends, but don't have the worry of getting lost in the mass of students like a larger university would be like. |

Am learning a lot | There is a wealth of knowledge at Tarleton State University. There is a huge variety of classes ranging from mathematics courses to musical courses to theatre courses. There are honors programs available, which I am a part of. The teachers at Tarleton care about the individual student if that student cares about his or her education. I feel so much more intelligent just being on campus and interacting with others in the honors program. |
Am enjoying being here | I love the campus and love the people I've met there. Being with people that are striving for a similar goal to your own really helps you concentrate and pull your grades to where you want them. There is also a lot of organizations and activities on campus that are a lot of fun to partake in. |
Bang for the buck | Tarleton's cheap tuition make it one of the best deals for education you'll be able to find. The environment, teachers, school spirit, and community feel makes it one of the best schools to go to and make the cost seem like a steal. I've made so many close friends within my first semester and learned so much in subjects I wasn't expecting to like and I've really enjoyed the whole experience. |
Tips for prospective students | If you plan on attending Tarleton and living on campus you are going to be required to purchase a meal plan. You may think you're going to eat three times a day in the dining hall, but trust me, you don't have time to do so. I'm on the 10 meals per week plan and I have never used all of them in one week. It's cheaper to just get the 10 meal plan and some ramen for your dorm room for those days you miss dinner. |
Great for these types of students | If you are planning on majoring in agriculture, Tarleton is perfect for you. Tarleton specializes in the agricultural studies and being in the middle of a country town, they definitely know what they are talking about. Tarleton also has one of the best barrel racing teams in Texas, so if you're a rodeo kind of person it's great. Even if you're not into the whole rodeo scene, there is a spot for you a Tarleton. I'm an English major and I love my classes and the whole environment at Tarleton. There is a great fine arts system at Tarleton as well, so theatre majors, music majors, and art majors are welcome and at home. Over all, Tarleton is a great school for everyone. |

Am learning a lot | The classes here are extremely in-depth, especially the Honors classes. I feel as though I have learned more in my first semester than I ever did in high school. The classes are challenging, which is something that I enjoy. Also, the teachers care about you. At Tarleton, you aren't just a number. The teachers want you to pass and do everything they can to help you. |
Am enjoying being here | Tarleton is deep in tradition. From the Purple Poo to the Plowboys, the entire university revolves around the traditions and organizations here. This makes the university fun to be at because it becomes easier to feel included when you get involved and learn the traditions. |
Bang for the buck | Although it isn't as cheap as a community college, I feel like the combination of the quality of the classes and the fun you have while being here makes the cost well worth it. |
Tips for prospective students | When you get here, don't stress out! Find friends, get involved, and everything will go smoothly from there. |
Great for these types of students | This university is great for people who love to have fun, but still can get work done and do well academically. |

Am learning a lot | Academically, this school has a lot to offer. Most of my teachers are extremely helpful, and if they aren't, chances are there is an Supplemental Instructor or tutor that would be more than willing to assist you with any questions. |
Am enjoying being here | I ABSOLUTELY love this school. There are plenty of ways to get involved, an active campus life is definitely a big deal. Tarleton is all about community, and its one thing you can for sure sense just walking on campus. |
Bang for the buck | Tarleton is affordable, and makes it feel like you still have some cash left over to have a life at the end of the day. |
Tips for prospective students | Tarleton State really is Texas' best kept secret. Getting involved is the best way to meet people. So, go to Duck Camp! Its a big help when you first get to school because you'll at least know some people. Joining groups help you get socialized as well. Whether you want to go Greek, join Freshman Representative Council or Student Programming Association, just do it. At least you can say you tried it out. |
Great for these types of students | Its great for everyone as long as you go out and get involved. There are over 150 organizations on campus, so its hard to say that there is nothing for you to do. |

In three sentences | tarleton is full of traditions. tarleton is a place that is very welcoming. tarleton, to me, is home. |
Tips for prospective students | be involved in as many groups as you can handle with your schedule and do not forget to start studying early. waiting until the last minute is not a good way to start. |
Academic Rigor | there are great classes for every major and the teachers make going to class fun. |
Dorm Life | the dorms can get kind of loud and crazy sometimes, but they are dorms filled with freshman students mostly. the on campus apartments are great, but you have to be a returning student to live in these |
Food and Dining | the dining hall is really great. they have a huge selection of food choices and they also have alternative places to eat on capus. |
What to do for fun | stephenville is a small town, so for fun there is a lot of things that go on around campus, but there are little things to do around the town if you get involved. |
Bang for the buck | tarleton is one of the cheapest four-year universities in texas and they have great teachers. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | we do not walk on the grass, we have numerous traditions homecoming week such as beating the drum, purple pancakes at midnight, and the bonfire. |
Great for these types of students | tarleton is great for any type of student looking to succeed. |
Clubs and Activities | there are so many activities on campus it is really hard not to be a part of one. |
Greek Life | there are a lot of sororities and fraternities on campus, ranging from big groups, to smaller groups. |
Campus Safety | there is police patrolling at night as well as safety lights all throughout campus, but i dont really ever see a need for them, stephenville is a safe town, but tarleton is even safer of a campus. all the dorms require card key access to the buildings and to the individual rooms. |

Am learning a lot | I LOVE the classes. In most classes there is an SI (tutoring) session at least once a week to help you if you choose to go. |
Am enjoying being here | I've only been here for one semester, but i already call this place home. I love where i live, I love the friends i've made, and most of all, I love tarleton! |
Bang for the buck | Im my opinion, TSU's tuition is very reasonable for the experience you recieve, which is incredible. Not to mention there are a ton of scholarships that Tarleton offers to help you. |
Tips for prospective students | if you are interested (which you should be) then go on a Texan Tour. it is much better than the regular tours and you get a better experience. it is led by actual tarleton students who have a huge love for the university. you wont regret it and i DARE you to not immediately feel at hom here. |
Great for these types of students | Tarleton has an amazing diversity proram and there is a place for everyone. |

Am learning a lot | I definitely learn a lot while at Tarleton, not only about school subjects but on a personal level as well. The atmosphere at this school is very welcoming of every individual as a person but also as members of the Tarleton family. This allows for a more comfortable learning environment and excellent academics. |
Am enjoying being here | When it comes to Tarleton theres no doubt that you will enjoy yourself. Even aside from the school the town it is in is very enjoyable. It's a nice small home town kind of feeling and you never know what you will get yourself into. Tarleton offers it's students so many opportunities that you are guaranteed to have fun no matter what. |
Bang for the buck | Tarleton is probably one of the cheapest Universities in Texas and as a member of the Texas A&M family they offer the same courses completely transferable for way less money. If your looking for a college that brings you everything that large university would bring you for way less and a lot smaller, Tarleton is for you! |
Tips for prospective students | The best tip I could give anyone is to apply and come visit. As soon as you step on campus I know you will feel at home, it's just a matter of giving the school a chance. You will automatically be greeted with smiles and any questions you have will be answered thoroughly. You couldn't ask for a better school. |
Great for these types of students | Anyone who's looking into any major can come to Tarleton. Our doors are open. Tarleton is well known for it's agriculture programs and similar to Texas A&M we are more geared toward the sciences. But don't let that discourage you, Tarleton offers just bout everything. |

Am learning a lot | At Tarleton, the learning experience is like no other. I learned and gained a lot in academics and experience. The environment of Tarleton is very studious and feels like an environment for learning. |
Am enjoying being here | I enjoy being here very much, everyone is so welcoming. When I first came to this school, the employees that work in the office (any office) are dedicated to help you get whatever you need. The upperclassmen are very helping as well. |
Bang for the buck | To attend Tarleton is very, very cheap. You will most likely always have money left over, and the best thing is you are receiving an awesome education! |
Tips for prospective students | The places/dorms I recommend to stay in are Legends, Centennial, Texan Village, New Dorm, and traditions. Those places are the best. Traditions is not as great as the others but its A LOT better than Bender and Ferguson. If you stay in Legends or the New Dorm its like a 5 star hotel with 5 star security for your door. |
Great for these types of students | If your major is Agriculture then Tarleton is great for you. If your major is science then Tarleton is great for you. Don't get me wrong other majors are great and accepted too, but Tarleton's science and agriculture programs are great. |

Am learning a lot | I haven't started class yet, but i do know that they have smaller classes so you can get more one on one time with your professor. They also have a first year experience program that really helps freshmen make the transition from high school to college. |
Am enjoying being here | Tarleton State University is a family atmosphere. Everyone is really friendly and helpful. I just came back from an event for freshmen called DUCK CAMP!!!! I had a blast. All the current students at Tarleton really helped me out and just reassured me that if I needed anything that they would be there for me no matter what. |
Bang for the buck | Tarleton is one of the cheaper universities, but its worth a lot more I don't think you can get a family atmosphere at any other college besides Tarleton. |
Tips for prospective students | Visit every college brochures can make some colleges appear to be perfect when in reality they have A LOT of flaws. |

Bang for the buck | Tarleton State University is one of the cheapest schools in Texas. Tuition with room and board and a meal plan is like 19-21K a year which is fantasticccc. But everything here at TSU doesn’t seem to be cheap. We have very nice dorms which are very comfy to live in. We own state of the art facilities including our Rec Center, our nursing buildings as well as our science building and some of our nicer dorms. TSU’s dining hall is always a choice to go eat. With full salad and pizza bar, and with many different types(healthy, American, Italian, sandwich bar, etc) of foods to eat it’s a pretty good deal considering the standard 15 meal swipes a week is plenty for a full time student(I think it’s around 1,700 a semester for this meal plan). Because of all these great features it’s a really awesome thing to have at such an affordable price, anyone who thinks about coming to Tarleton should, it’s like a second home... but better :) |
