1400 SAT Colleges: Best Schools That Accept a 1400 SAT Score

The SAT is one of the most prominent standardized tests utilized by colleges during the admissions process. SAT results are calculated on a scale of 400 to 1600, with 1600 clocking in as the highest available score. A score of 1400 demonstrates academic excellence on all sections of the test, reading, writing, and mathematics.

Is a 1400 SAT Score (95th Percentile) Good?

Because a 1400 on the SAT is only 200 points away from the highest possible score, it implies an outstanding academic performance and makes you a competitive candidate for admission at almost every one. This list includes a good number of selective and elite institutions of learning. Since the primary goal of taking the SAT is to be eligible for admission at as many institutions as possible, a score of 1400 is very beneficial.

What Colleges Can I Get Into with an SAT Score of 1400?

A score of 1400 makes you a prime candidate to go to college just about anywhere you’d like. If that’s a little daunting, schedule a meeting with your college counselor to get a sense of what types of schools might be the best fit for you academically and socially. Once you have your list of 7 to 10 schools you want to apply to, the best course of action is to keep up your GPA and get a head start on other components of your application, such as your personal statement.

Should I Retake the SAT with a 1400 Score?

One of the only reasons to consider retaking the SAT would be if you’re interested in attending institutions that are very selective or in the Ivy League. While a 1400 makes you eligible to apply to places such as Harvard, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania, it won’t make you a competitive candidate. An SAT of 1390 falls in the 25th percentile of admitted students, leaving the 75th percentile, or the bulk of admitted students, earning around 1590 on their standardized tests.

As for seniors, don’t give into senioritis. Since many schools look to see consistent academic performance throughout all four years of high school, senior year grades can make a big difference in convincing colleges to say yes so keep putting in the effort to finish strong. Don’t forget to focus on making every part of the application as strong as your SAT performance, including the personal essay and list of after school activities. A thoughtful and well-crafted essay can help distinguish your application from the pack of students applying to more prestigious schools.

1400 SAT to ACT Equivalent

A 1400 SAT score is equivalent to earning a 30 on the ACT

While colleges regard the SAT and ACT equally and don’t prefer one over the other, depending on what sort of test-taking you are as a student, you may prefer to take one over the other. For instance, while the ACT asks slightly more complex math problems, the SAT has a no-calculator portion. The SAT has test-takers read an essay and respond to said essay, while the ACT simply offers several prompts to choose from.

One of the most distinct differences between the two tests is in time management. The ACT has rigorous time requirements, often requiring test takers to answer more questions than there are minutes, while the SAT offers a bit more time per question. There are pros and cons to both!

Scholarships for a 1400 SAT Score

When it comes to finding scholarships based on merit, a 1400 SAT score will certainly be helpful. This score makes you eligible to apply to the majority of scholarships with standardized score requirements, so start applying now! Even scholarships with small monetary awards can be helpful in offsetting the cost of tuition.
