What Students Are Saying
Apply early, it's the best way to ensure that you will get the maximum aid. Don't have high hopes for your first semester GPA, the first classes are a learning experience in navigating college life in general and the academic level in particular. Get to know the professors ASAP, they are really a wonderful bunch of people and it helps when it comes time for them to grade your work!
Nicholas from Ottawa Lake, MI
Definitely visit the campus. The community and the overall atmosphere is such that no one can properly describe it to you...you have to feel for yourself if it's the right fit for you. An overnight visit where you can stay in the dorms is best. Talk to the students, sit in on classes, and eat in the dining hall. People will be more than happy to talk to you about their experiences at the school.
Maria from Glendale, AZ
Visit campus if at all possible. I knew I wanted to attend Hillsdale, but setting foot on campus and breathing the atmosphere, so to speak, was what convinced me I could not be happy anywhere else.
Sharon from TX
Make certain you ask current students about their experiences and come visit the campus. It is difficult to know if you belong at a school without seeing it for yourself. Ask your admissions counselor to let you sit in on the classes of the most difficult professors. Ask, ask, ask - the more questions you ask, the more answers you will receive that will enable you to make an informed decision.
Natalie from Plymouth, MA
This college is fantastic at getting freshmen to feel welcome. Do not worry if you do not know anyone before you get there.
Alexandria from Naples, FL
Always fill out your paperwork on time, or better yet the earlier the better. Be prepared to study a lot even if you were a 4.0 student in high school.
Dana from Carey, OH
Spend a night here, go to classes that interest you and you will discover that although a smaller college, Hillsdale College is giant in education and a catalyst for personal growth.
Andrew from Madison, IN
Visit the campus, meet the faculty, attend a game, stay overnight. You'll get a feel for the safe, close-knit friendly environment.
Alex from Wolverine Lake, MI
Get as many credits as you can in high school that cover core classes, or you will be taking quite difficult classes that are outside of your majors.
Joshua from Dorr, MI
Passionately pursue learning and character development. You won't get into Hillsdale just because you are a talented person but because you have potential to grow and excel.
