In three sentences | Glendale Community College is one of the oldest, yet popular community college for locals living in Glendale, La Crescenta, La Canada, Burbank as well as for international students. They offer many courses depending on the major you plan to pursue or even if you are undecided. The college provides students with intelligent professors who have years of experience in the subjects they are teaching, along with a galore of student clubs to get involved within the campus community, and a great studying environment both the Library and the outdoor tables. |
Tips for prospective students | The tips I would share are the following...... 1) During the few weeks before summer session ends, go find a great counselor that will help guide you through which classes you should be taking, what is your plan if you already know what your major is, etc. 2) Go Check out the campus- walk around, ask questions, look for the buildings in which you will be taking classes in and perhaps find your classroom. 3) Use all the free tutoring offered on campus-although it may be a 30-45 minute session; prepare the questions or concepts which you are not understanding so you make the most of your time. 4) Always make an effort to talk to your professors during office hours, breaks, before or after class..... not only will you get to know them better on a personal level but also helps when you are struggling in their class. You Will NOT regret it! |
Academic Rigor | Glendale Community College as mentioned before offers a large variety of academic courses as well as majors for students who plan to transfer out to a four year college. They take their academics very seriously because they have a high transfer rate of students who end up in well-known four year universities. |
Dorm Life | NONE, but offers places for international students to stay off campus. |
Food and Dining | The college has a large two floor cafeteria. Culinary Arts students are in the kitchen on a daily basis preparing food for peers. It is great to see how they improve from the first day they start to the end of their time served at Glendale Community College. Foods are also taught by professional chefs; professors who have majored in the culinary industry and have worked in the industry for many years now. Which is why the cafeteria food is delicious. We also have two different Coffee Bean stations one located right at the entrance of the college and the other near the science buildings. Great for times, when other places are not open. Luckily the college also has a food island down the middle of the bridge where you can find other fast foods to purchase. |
What to do for fun | In my opinion, sitting at the main entrance where the Theatre, Administration, and Counseling buildings are located and watch everyone that passes by as you see other students playing different instruments, and sip your coffee with a snack from the Coffee Bean stand. Also if you walk outside the back of the second floor cafeteria, and continue to walk straight up to the Aviation and Arts building you can watch the ceramics students creating unique and beautiful objects. |
Bang for the buck | Glendale Community College is not only inexpensive for the number of units and classes that one student takes during each semester, but it also provides you with the greatest knowledge from professors who guide you towards your goals, dreams, careers, and much more. It is the best solution for students whose parents cannot afford to pay out of pocket and if you apply for financial aid and receive aid then you don't have to pay anything except for your books. |
Clubs and Activities | Every day Glendale Community College has some sort of club meetings, which are posted either above the bookstore and have standing signs around campus to make sure that whoever seems interested to go and join. It's fascinating to see the large number of clubs and organizations provided to students and how it accommodates the many races, religions, cultures of all current students. |
Greek Life | NONE |
Campus Safety | The campus is surrounded with a large group of security guards who walk around or drive around campus. They even stop and greet you as you walk by them, very polite! If they believe that someone looks suspicious, have illegal drugs or weapons the Glendale Community College Police automatically deal with situation by first making sure that no other student is in danger and second by warning everyone through phone calls, texts, voicemails. |

Am learning a lot | Glendale Community College has some wonderful faculty. The teachers are hard working despite major cut backs at the college. No matter what, the teachers encourage you to push beyond what you normally do with your learning abilities to go outside of your comfort zone. I've learned how to communicate more effectively with fellow students as well as I've become more open to asking questions and requesting tutoring from my teachers. I'd definitely take advantage of their tutoring opportunities because they are very helpful. |
Am enjoying being here | The campus is well kept and the plaza, Plaza Vaquero, is green with well kept grass and trees. There are plenty of tables to sit at outside, a two floor library, and two levels to the cafeteria for people to relax with friends or study quietly. I really enjoy being able to walk across campus in about 5 minutes. My only issue with the school is that smoking is permitted so I would recommend doing your best to avoid the smoking sections of the school if you are a non-smoker. |
Bang for the buck | This is a great college to attend if you are in need of help financially. The tuition for classes is about $26 dollars per unit. This has helped me save a lot of money as I pay for my general education classes in order to transfer to another school. Just make sure you fill out both the FAFSA and BOG in time so you can receive your financial aid on time rather than the end of the semester. |
Tips for prospective students | Any student that attends Glendale Community College should complete their financial aid forms as soon as possible. A lot of people wait until the last minute to complete these forms so there are always long lines during the summer and fall class sessions. I'd also recommend completing your registration as soon as possible so you will be placed under priority registration when trying to get all your classes. And if you have a car, get the parking permit. They are a little expensive, but they are worth it if you have to spend a lot of time at school. |
Great for these types of students | Glendale Community College is a great school to go to if you need a school that doesn't cost too much. It is great to attend if you live in the area and are unable to drive yet as well. The counselors are pretty helpful so I'd recommend attending here if you want to go to school for a cheaper tuition while you try to transfer to another school. |
