Am learning a lot | All of my teachers so far have been great! They all know what they're talking about and make sure we understand what they're talking about before moving on to something new. Even my math teacher, who tended to move a little fast, was willing to stay after class and go over anything that I didn't understand. |
Am enjoying being here | I absolutely love Frostburg! You have wildlife, yet there are stores and restaurants right down the road. There is always something going on, and, being an RA, I spend almost all of my time here on campus, and I absolutely love it. |
Bang for the buck | I think the rooms and tuition prices are worth WAY more than we pay. The food is JUST worth the price we pay. The caf isn't the greatest, but there are other options on campus, like a sub shop, that fit in with the meal plans and cost nothing. |
Tips for prospective students | FSU is considered to be a party school, but it just depends on what sort of work ethic you have and what you want to do with your life. Every school is a party school, so don't choose a school based on its reputation but rather the education you can get out of it. There are more than a hundred things you can do just on campus that don't involve parties. |
Great for these types of students | FSU is great for any student who wants a good education with a good price. |

Am learning a lot | Since I am a marketing major, I am a learning many things in class and out of class. I enjoy all of the classes and teachers that I had so far. The curriculum is great, but also challenging and makes you think and keeps your attention. The best classes i had so far have been my accounting and economics class. My advisor is a great help as well. He gave me a great bit of information dealing with my major and possible internships for the future. |
Am enjoying being here | When i first saw the campus, I fell in love with it. It is a great size and everything on campus is walking distance if you live on campus. The atmosphere is great as well as the teachers and staff. Even though there isn't many stores close by, there are a great amount of restaurants that have excellent food. Many of my classmates from high school attend this school and I enjoy hanging out with them. It makes the school life a little more fun! |
Bang for the buck | The tuition is actually a very reasonable price for a college. If you do live in Maryland it is very cheap compared to the other Maryland campus. Even though the price is lower, you still get your moneys worth in education. The food cost is a little pricey but there is a lot to choose from and all of it is very tasty. |
Tips for prospective students | Some tips that I have for prospective students would be to one: don't choose a school on its reputation. Focus on academics and school work. Frostburg is known as a party school but it depends on the person. Secondly, ask around about teachers because every teacher is not the same and many have different teaching styles. Lastly, when you do attend the school try to join as many organizations as you can. The school has many activities and groups and the school is really big on diversity. |
Great for these types of students | This school is really great for individuals who like a quiet and small campus and surrounding area. It does get very cold in the winter and early spring, so if you enjoy the snow this is the place to be. The community is great and the campus is just beautiful. Also ask for extra credit! 9 times out of 10 that teacher has extra points to give away! |

Am learning a lot | For this question, it really depends on what teacher you get, just like with every other college. I am a Mass Comm major and some classes you learn more than others. The strictest teachers are the best, end of story. They know what they are talking about. Those classes aren't about listening. You actually learn something. |
Am enjoying being here | I love this area. I always have. It's a quiet, sleepy little town with a great view. The Wisp is twenty minutes away, so that means easy access to snowboarding in the winter or the lake in the summer. People claim this town is boring, but they just lack imagination. |
Bang for the buck | This college isn't going to bankrupt you and you still get a Maryland State University education. |
Tips for prospective students | Dorms aren't a big hit. Most students move into their own apartment as soon as possible. Also, Greek life (sororities and fraternities) are a major part of the life at Frostburg, but do not let that pressure you into joining one if it's not for you. |
Great for these types of students | This college is big on teaching and wildlife, and I would dare say, mass communications. It isn't a great idea for pre-med or pre-law students. |

Am learning a lot | The professors at FSU are incredibly dedicated and expect the same desire and motivation from their students. Attendance is mandatory for most classes and many include the clause that if five classes are missed the student automatically receives a failing grade for that class. |
Am enjoying being here | Greek life is incredibly popular here, and though the campus is in a rural location there is a expansive variety of extracurriculars offered including rock climbing, sports, theatre, and clubs. Wisp ski and snowboarding resort is a 20 minute drive away, decent shopping is offered in LaVale and Cumberland. |
Bang for the buck | The tuition for a full year is under 10,000 if the student lives off campus and a majority of the student body does so. The Cultural Event Series also offers incredibly cheap on campus activities for students as well as Frostburg community. |
Tips for prospective students | Your academic experience is what you make of it, if you are determined to party and goof around then it matters not what school you go to as the experience will be essentially the same everywhere. In other words, don't worry about the reputation of the school you attend as your intent is more important. If your aim is to get a quality education at a great price then FSU is for you. |
Great for these types of students | Those who enjoy the cold are definitely at home here as the temperature at FSU is about 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding areas. A great school for those waiting to make their mark as the campus is small enough to do so but large enough so as not to feel cramped. Also good for those who are good at finding things to do and does not require a fast paced life at all times. |

In three sentences | Very dedicated to informing students of important information and school events. Great place to stay concentrated on school work. Teachers here are very friendly. |
Tips for prospective students | Great place to choose to attend. Variety of ethnic backgrounds here. Tutoring is free. |
Academic Rigor | Teachers keep students challenged. Some classes are fairly easy. Teachers give information beyond what one would think. |
Dorm Life | Dorms are AWESOME ! Most bathrooms have been remodeled. Rooms are nice and roomy. Beds, desks, and drawers are in good condition. |
Food and Dining | Food in the cafeteria is decent. Other food options are available like Chick-fil-A and Taco-Bell. Fair amount of food for meal plan ! |
What to do for fun | Not really much to do off of campus. School offers alot of activities during the semester. |

Am learning a lot | Some teachers will make you learn on your own with general guidance and others will hand you the answers that will be on the test, but you are going to learn something. Some classes you will just retain more than others. My math ad physics classes have been great at teaching. |
Am enjoying being here | When walking on campus at night you feel more at home than afraid like on some other campuses. The classes are small, the teachers are friendly, and the students are great. If that isn't enough for you the president of the school itself would love to meet you personally. I have met him on several occasions. |
Bang for the buck | This is a cheap school with amazing bonuses to it. I chose right when I decided to go to Frostburg. |
Tips for prospective students | If you can apply for the honors program, do it. It is well worth the extra work. Early registration, free event tickets, and more come with being honors. Plus the honors students are amazing to know. |
Great for these types of students | Getting involved is easy, and with it being a small university you get to know most of the people who care about getting involved and helping. Being around those people similar to you is great. |

In three sentences | I'm really glad I chose to attend Frostburg. I've met a lot of new people and made a lot of friends. I've become even more open minded and learned a lot from my experiences there. |
Academic Rigor | Classes are pretty simple freshmen year, however they start to pick up when you actually start to focus on your major. It is important to balance time well, prioritize, and have good study habits. It also helps to utilize the writing center, tutoring center, and the professor's office hours if needed. |
Dorm Life | There are many different dorms you can choose from that focus on specific things; like the bwell program for health, echo stars for community service, or the fye, where the dorms just focus on your first year there. In the dorms, Resident Assistants are constantly putting on fun and helpful programs that you have the option of attending. It has helped me get to know my RAs better, learn a lot about certain subjects, and meet other people in my dorm. |
Food and Dining | There's a good amount of dining options to choose from here. Like subway, chick fa la, the dining hall, and carry outs of campus. |
What to do for fun | There are many clubs to join that put on activities that you can attend or help set up. There's also sports teams you can try out for or club sports teams that you can join. This is what helped me pass a lot of free time and have fun. |

Am learning a lot | Attending Frostburg State University will teach you alot about yourself. You either make it or break it out here. |
Am enjoying being here | To be honest I didn't intend on attending Frostburg for more than a year but now I am staying for all four years. There is a warmth and sense of community about Frostburg. |
Bang for the buck | Bang for the buck! I love my professors and the best thing they know me on a first and last name basis. Right now Frostburg is renovating all the dorms and major buildings on-campus. Frostburg is expanding! |
Tips for prospective students | Join as many organizations as possible, it will enriching your experience, plus excellent networking opportunities. |
Great for these types of students | Great for education, mass communication and law & society students. We are not known for our atheletics however. For all those interested in fashion and modeling, Frostburg has great organizations for that including Visual Couture. |
