In three sentences | This university has great professors, beautiful agricultural research stations and amazing architecture. It is in the west side of the island where the best beaches are. People are friendly and helpful, this campus is the best. |
Tips for prospective students | Always have an umbrella, drink water and smile. |
Academic Rigor | It is very demanding, professors are usually available to help as well as graduate students. There are help centers in many departments. |
Dorm Life | It does not offer housing, but there are many private places to choose from in the surroundings. |
Food and Dining | Food is great! Many places to choose from in the surroundings. |
What to do for fun | The center of the city is a nice place to visit and meet while drinking coffee. There are many nice beaches and forests in the west side. The Yaguez Theater often offers concerts, etc. Many pubs and bars sometimes offer live music. |
Bang for the buck | It is the best! Tropical climate and interesting campus makes this place great. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | The grad caravana is the pre-graduation where all students celebrate the moment. |

In three sentences | It's a beautiful and inspiring campus. Brilliant professors. Friendly students and great College Associations. University of Puerto Rico is ranked as the best institution on higher education in the island. This campus has a lot of majors and much more of what you wish you have in campus. From art, science, agriculture, humanities to engineering, this island campus have it all. |
Tips for prospective students | I recommend everyone to visit the online website and get engaged with everything about academics and admissions. The online website is www.urprm.edu. There is all the information you need to contact the administration. You can search both undergraduate and graduate catalogs to explore the majors offered sou you can have a complete idea of what you can expect. Don't stay with doubts. On campus there is a lot of people that would be pleased to help you and make your freshmen experience so unique. |
Academic Rigor | Honestly, here you'll receive a great education. Everything that you will learn here, will help you further professionally and personally. Our grading system is based on a 4.0 scale. You can expect generally 3 or 4 exams per semester, research and creative assignments that will lead you to develop critical thinking and analyzed application of the course material. Also, professors like to engaged their students in hands-on experience and activities to take their students to a greater level of knowledge and comprehension. |
Dorm Life | While, college dorms are mostly for athletes and definitely for transfer, internship, and international students; there is plenty of apartments for rent extremely near to college, most of them affordable, walking distance and in good conditions, in a good and collegiette environment for living. |
Food and Dining | The institution counts with a private cafeteria, which includes traditional/typical food, a wellness menu for diabetic people, an international menu, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, burgers, salads, fruits, potatoes. Plus a coffee and bakery, including sweets, wraps, smoothies, hot chocolate and coffee specialties. |
What to do for fun | Since we are surrounded by water you can go to the beach everyday if you want to. The campus has a Students Center with La Cueva de Tarzan which includes a coffee shop and a bohemian environment day and night. The college has a Museum that treasures artworks from professors, donations and constant exhibitions. The institution counts with 3 pools available for recreational purposes through scheduled hours. The campus also has a gym, a racetrack, coliseum for sport activities. Near college we have malls and restaurants and the beautiful town of Mayaguez, full of history 5 minutes away from campus. There is a lot to do for fun, including museums, hotels, water parks in nearer towns, ice skating, bowling, gardens and much more! |
Bang for the buck | Our mascot is the fierce bulldog. Tarzan as we called it, accompanies us in parades, graduations, sports competitions and much more. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | We have a great Chorium and Band and Orchestra. The best of its kinds in Puerto Rico. On 2015, our campus chorium won 2nd place in the Festival CantaRode in Holland. What a pride! P.S. I'll recommend you a great spot on campus: Placita el Arbol de la Vida, at the side of the Jose De Diego Building. "The tree if life" is a captivating fountain-sculpture that emanates peace and inspiration to everyone that sit down or pass around. |

In three sentences | The UPRM is one of the top colleges in Puerto Rico it has many programs from engineering, biology, agricultural science, education and much more. It is a challenging college, if you are admitted you are already considered some of the top students in Puerto Rico. It is not very easy to get accepted but once your in the faculty and professors are always there to help you in whatever you need during your college career. |

What to do for fun | There are many association and fraternity's in every department. There is a movie theater and restaurants at walking distance from the college campus and a mall thats not very far. |
Bang for the buck | It is way cheaper than any continental US college, from tuition to living expenses. |
Clubs and Activities | There are many clubs and most of them have weekly activities. |
Greek Life | There are a few fraternities. |

In three sentences | The University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez is the top university in Puerto Rico. It is most known for it's excellent programs on Engineering, Science and Agriculture. The university is also rated on the Top 50 Universities on Latin America. |
Tips for prospective students | For students thinking on applying to the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, it is most important that you have an excellent GPA, raging from 3.5 to 4.0 (in a 4.0 scale). It is also important that to have great College Board or SAT scores (especially Mathematics). It is good to have extracurricular activities like community service or participating in organizations. Finally, it is very helpful if you play any kind of instrument, have experience in choir or participate in a athletic team. |
Academic Rigor | The University has a very strong academic program. Most of the classes are high in difficulty. Any student that wants to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or more, has to have a very rigorous study schedule. The professors are a mixture of local professors and foreign professors. You will encounter professors with a very difficult teaching methods and others with a moderate teaching methods, but all of them do the topmost job in teaching the students skills they will need in they're future jobs. |
Dorm Life | There are no dorms in University Campus, so any student that wants to attend has to find housing outside the university. There are many housing options outside the university only minutes away. The student can choose from living in dorms with roommates, living in studios (usually just a room, or with a room, living room and kitchenette separately) or living in a apartment with housemates. There are a lot of options to choose from and depending on the rooms and amenities the prices range from $200 to $1,000. |
Food and Dining | The University has a Student Center Building which comes with a cafeteria on the first floor, a lunch an diner room on the second floor and on the thirty floor a terrace with tables. if you choose not to eat at the University there are multiple choices just minutes from it (like Wendy's, a mexican place called Chalupas, El Meson Subs and many more). |
What to do for fun | There are many things to do for fun. Mayaguez has an exceptional nightlife with pubs and clubs suited for all moods and music choices or if you just want to sit, relax and talk. It is close to many beautiful beaches on Cabo Rojo, Rincon and Joyuda. The university has many organizations that arrange activities for the students like parties, campings, conferences and co-fraternization activities. Many students like to go to the Town Plaza to talk, eat ice cream or take a minute relax from classes. And there is also the movie theater on the Mayag���¼ez Town Center or Western Plaza. |
Bang for the buck | Being a Public Institution, the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez has a lower tuition than most universities in Puerto Rico. Also, if you can qualify for the Federal Pell Grant it opens a lot of opportunities for other scholarships. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | At the beginning of the august semester there is always Orientation week, where we work with new students (freshman) preparing them for the college life. Also, the university offers dance classes and swimming classes. |
Great for these types of students | It is great for students of Science and Agriculture, but specially Engineering. The programs for engineers are the best in Puerto Rico. |
Clubs and Activities | Every department has many Clubs, Associations and Organizations. if you want to join a Club from another department you are free to do so. |
Greek Life | There is a Greek life, but it has no high status on the university. |
Campus Safety | The security guards are always on duty, and if you have car problems inside the Campus they will help. There are no incidence of criminality on campus and it's very rare if there are. |

Food and Dining | The food is varied. They have a cafeteria in the Student Center, which is divided into two floors. They serve breakfast, lunch and some desserts. In general, a good service. |
What to do for fun | There are two tracks for running, We have a swimming complex with three pools, an Olympic pool, a 25x25 warm up pool and a 25x35 diving pool. We also have a Gym. We have a hangout spot called Tarzan's Cave where you can go watch a movie or a live play. |
Bang for the buck | If we are talking about food the cafeteria is where you want to go. |
