Am learning a lot | All of the teachers have office hours which enable the students to get extra time if something does not click in class. Not many colleges can guarantee this 1 on 1 time. |
Am enjoying being here | The atmosphere is one in which you are able to meet people very quickly, and because of the smaller campus you are able to see them constantly, and form true friendships which is harder to do on larger campuses. |
Bang for the buck | UNC-P is part of the University of North Carolina colleges so the education is absolutely excellent, however, the tuition is one of the less expensive of these schools. |
Tips for prospective students | When going into any college, you need to make sure that you are focused and dedicated to your classes. College give you the opportunity to choose what general education classes that you would like to take, so take advantage of that and get into classes that interest you. Get involved on campus in anything that catches your eye. Don't be afraid to talk to other people of campus, they will be more than happy to help, answer, or just talk to you about anything. Believe it because it's true. Check out the university's library, cafeteria, entrances to dorms, and bookstore for information; because these are the major traffic areas for students, information is always posted there. Last but not least, UNC-P has A LOT to offer all levels of students. Because of the smaller size, they have the ability to do things that many of the larger universities cannot do. Enjoy the privileges! |
Great for these types of students | Great for students who love the small town feel, making immediate, strong, and lasting relationships/friendship, like to interact with their campus and campus-like activities, like being able to connect with their professor on a higher, more personal level and for students who enjoy a high level of school spirit. |

Will learn a lot | I have family that go to UNCP and they say that the learning environment is great!! |
Will enjoy being here | I have lived in Pembroke all of my life (for 16 years) and I am Native American just like mainly every one else in Pembroke. Its safe around here. There is not a huge crime rate at all. Yeah stuff happens but thats everywhere. I have visted the school like a million times and it is a very nice campus in my opinion. |
Bang for the buck | the college tution is not that expensive |
Tips for prospective students | If you come from a big city I strongly encourage you to visit the school and town for a weekend. We are finally getting a hotel!! Pembroke is home to me but there is nothing here yeah we have a walmart, mcdonalds, other fast food places, about 5 restaurants, and some other places. If your looking for places to hang out outside of school campus there is not much. Robeson county in general doesnt have anything anyway. |
Great for these types of students | If you love the small towns, and just being laid back. |

Am learning a lot | The teachers at UNCP are very dedicated to their students. In a typical classroom on the UNC-Pembroke campus , you will find maybe twenty students or less to one teacher, meaning that you will get more teacher to student interaction. The teachers also provide office hours , where students can walk in and talk about problems and concerns. This is a great way to get extra help in subject that you are struggling and this is the perfect opportunity to get to know your teacher, in my opinion., the more interaction time with your professors, the easier college will be. |
Am enjoying being here | There are a great variety of on-campus activities to be involved in bu,t on the weekends everyone tends to leave. Pembroke, North Carolina is a very small town and any kind of night-life activities are just a drive away. So if you have a car or know someone that drives then, anyone staying during the weekend can find a lot to do. There are normally on campus parties that are thrown by students in their apartments. Also the campus is small, its a ten minute walk from each end of the campus. So if you like to get in a couple more minutes of sleep, this school would be great. |
Bang for the buck | Everyone knows that college is expensive. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke isn't the cheapest college, but it is affordable. Most students can just pick up a couple scholarships and then work-study and school is paid for. If you live on campus you get 125 dollars, approximately, on your Braves Card, which allows you to buy pretty much whatever you want on campus. You get a refund check, then during buy back season you get half your money back that you spent on books. the activities on campus, for attending students, are affordable. Most of the events are free. |
Tips for prospective students | - Be well rested, most students think that staying up 'til four am is smart. trust me i thought the same thing and I soon found out that it makes life hard. - Talk to your teachers. Many teachers that seem stern in front of their class can actually be pretty nice in their office. - Get Involved! That's the only way to enjoy college. - Study , study study. |
Great for these types of students | This school is great for students that like small schools setting. Students that go to University of North Carolina at Pembroke should be ready to learn. Pembroke isn't a party school but there is normally one every weekend. The campus is well kept and the people are very respectful here. I encourage people to attend UNCP. |

Am learning a lot | I absolutely love going to class, because I know the professors are willing to take the time to make sure I learn the material and retain it, by using teaching methods that relate to students who learn from visual aids, by reading or writing, by hearing, and by doing. The professors balance each lecture so that no matter which way a student learns best, the lecture is guaranteed to be processed the right way. |
Am enjoying being here | Campus is wonderful, and you can walk from one end to the other in fifteen minutes or less. The campus is always refreshingly clean, and because of the Smoking rules, you don't tend to see cigarette butts laying around on our campus! The Givens Performing Arts center always has wonderful shows including the ballet, and often times famous comedians! |
Bang for the buck | Out of all the University of North Carolina schools Pembroke's Campus is the Cheapest but still of the best quality!! |
Tips for prospective students | Visit uncp.edu today to learn anything about the university, and see what programs are here for you! |
Great for these types of students | This university is good for the student who wants the full college experience without the harsh prices! |

Am learning a lot | The teachers here are very helpful. They urge you to ask questions and make sure they answer the questions in detail. |
Am enjoying being here | The college campus itself is ok, but the town of Pembroke does not have much to offer. |
Bang for the buck | Students get a good education for an affordable tuition. |
Tips for prospective students | If you wish to have a good time here, it's probably best that you make a lot of friends to keep you company and to keep you occupied. |
Great for these types of students | Students who wish to stay focused, and those who do not do a lot of clubbing. |

In three sentences | The campus is very easy to navigate and has a great staff of helpful people wanting to help you succeed. The local food and coffee shops are great and reasonably priced. Many of the students here are very open minded and kind as well. |
Tips for prospective students | Finish all your general education classes in your freshman and sophomore years so you do not have to take them in your upperclassman years. |
Academic Rigor | The classes are easy as long as you study and do as you are told. The school is biology and medical based so there are many classes that challenge you to excel in them. |
Dorm Life | You are allowed to pick your roommates so you can have a double suite with your friend or make a new friend with someone you don't know. Single suites are also available for those wishing not to have a roommate. |
Food and Dining | There is great food around campus and two different coffee shops. However, the food services can sometimes be troublesome when it comes to time efficiency. The coffee shops can sometimes mess up drinks as well. However, they fix them properly if you tell them what they did wrong and without charge. |
What to do for fun | There's football, soccer, and wrestling activities for those who enjoy sports. Those who wish to delve into the local culture can get involved with native american groups on campus and other ethnic groups. There's also many public activities held in the University Center on campus. |

Tips for prospective students | Aplly asap, and visit this school |

Dorm Life | The housing services is nice and the dorms are nice im looking forward to the following years. |
Food and Dining | I have only had one meal on campus for orientation. the food plans vary so plan your meals well and your budget depending on your choices. |
What to do for fun | The town is small, there is a few local food joints and stores and a park not to far. Lumberton is the town to go for fun, or the beach with is about a hour or so from there depending on were you go. |
Bang for the buck | Its not to expensive at all, and worth every bit |

In three sentences | UNCP was not my first choice but I absolutely love it. Pembroke is a very great school that is willing to help you to the best of their abilities. With the small campus and classes, you get so much engagement with the teachers and students and that is what makes the experience of education the best. |
Tips for prospective students | If you are thinking about applying to this University then I would follow through with it. You get a excellent education. |
Academic Rigor | The academic challenges you face at Pembroke are worth the time. They challenge you with the intend that it will help you and it truly does. If i was not pushed and motivated by my teachers and school work, I would not be as educated and strong as I am as of now. |
Dorm Life | I am currently an residential adviser for one of the dorms at UNCP. The dorm life will really give you the experience and opportunities you will love as a college student. |
Food and Dining | My first year at UNCP the cafeteria was alright and not to pleasing. But the start of my sophomore year, they remolded the caf and it looks stunning along with better variety and better quality of food. |
What to do for fun | UNCP is in a very rural area but they does not mean you can not have fun. The university is always having fun events for the students that are very interesting and fun. If you are a student here and say you are bored then you are not getting involved in the many activities they have. |
Bang for the buck | Even though UNCP as a fairly low tuition, you would not think you pay as much as you did for the education you are getting. I am extremely satisfied with the amount I pay and the education I receive for it. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Since I have been a freshman at UNCP, they always have the best homecoming week with many activities and event leading up to the footall game. I always look forward to this week. |
Great for these types of students | UNCP is a great place for students who like every day engagement in the classrooms and well as one on one help with your teachers if needed. Teachers are always there to help any students if they need it and they make it well known. |
Clubs and Activities | UNCP has an unlimited amount of clubs and organizations for every interest and needs. |
Campus Safety | The campus safety at Pembroke is excellent. I have always felt very safe. I say this because I always see police officers and police cars patrolling the campus to make sure every one is safe. |

In three sentences | UNC Pembroke is nestled in a rural corner of the state, steeped in Native American culture, diverse in its attendees, and blessed with an excellent faculty. |
Tips for prospective students | The single caveat I would extend is that the campus security personnel aren't the brightest stars in the firmament, and can be unusually severe if you anger them. I accidentally broke a window, and was dragged into a lengthy court battle over it. |
Academic Rigor | To be honest, it is possible to coast through a number (but not all) of the courses. |
Dorm Life | This can be a tremendous amount of fun, although when I was an undergraduate, co-ed fraternizing could get you thrown out. Apparently, they now offer co-ed living. |
Food and Dining | Not the best, not the worst. Nothing to write home about. |
What to do for fun | Definitely get involved in extracurricular activities, particularly the plays, music programs, sports, student government, and especially the world-class broadcasting center. You will have a blast! |
Bang for the buck | For the relatively low tuition, UNC Pembroke is a superb deal. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Strong Native American traditions and sense of pride, including the outdoor historical drama Strike at the Wind. |
Great for these types of students | Those who enjoy a more rural setting and multicultural experiences. |
Clubs and Activities | SGA, sports, newspaper, yearbook, SUPERB broadcasting and drama departments, jazz band, foreign language and chess clubs, movie enthusiasts, photography club, biology club, history society, church groups, and much, much more..... |
Greek Life | Rich and vibrant. Highly recommended and open to any and all interested parties. |
Campus Safety | In the entire four and a half years of my stay, there wasn't a SINGLE report of violent crime, and thefts were only on a petty level. Off-campus, the Robeson County swamps are notorious as a drug-trafficking pipeline. That culture has almost no impact upon the campus and its community, however. |

In three sentences | the school is good at making you feel at home, the classes aren't over sized or stuffed to the brim. they actually care about us achieving what we want to do in life and they give us great adviser's to help us understand. pembroke is cultural every race is represented here. |
Tips for prospective students | always do your work don't get caught up in trying to party and drink and be cool, because at the end of the day you need to succeed and get your degree to make a living so it is best you don't procrastinate and make excuses. |
Academic Rigor | the classes are great, learning is actually fun just make sure the right courses are picked. picking a class that is below your academic level will leave you bored and unsatisfied. |
Dorm Life | dorm space is okay depending on where you live. it is best that you try and find a good roommate or cool person to live with considering that is where most time will be spent. if anything happens between you and your roommate there are resident advisers that are there to help no matter what the situation is. |
Food and Dining | the cafe always has good food and there is a wing place right beside it just in case you aren't feeling up to eating the same kinds of food or if the cafe is serving something you don't like. |
Campus Safety | we have campus police that are always on scene no matter what happens. they put there numbers on signs all over the campus, and there are also emergency buttons located all over the campus. |
