What tips can you share with prospective students?

When you first come to this campus, you may feel overwhelmed as it’s a whole new experience. I was also scared of the “what if” thoughts since I enrolled directly after finishing Highschool. As time went on, I began to realize it isn’t as scary as I thought. My advice is to not stress and trust in yourself that you’ll do great. As long as you have the determination, try your best and don’t procrastinate, you can achieve any goal in mind.

How would you describe the food and dining options?

I would say the food and dining options are mostly of good quality. While I’ve only had the food here a handful of times, only once was I not satisfied. The food is affordable and healthy; they also provide vending machines with more variety of snacks.

How has your college supported your career development and future goals?

As someone who is planning to transfer after two years, Tidewater community college has given me a steady foundation to work on to pave my way to success. The staff helped support my goals by ensuring I had proper aid, assisted in selecting courses, and made sure I fulfilled all requirements to graduate. The advisors were the biggest help if I had any questions. I’m graduating exactly on time and have no negative regards.

Am learning a lot
If you check out your teachers on ratemyprof, I find you can get the best education for your dollar. The teachers I picked based on good reviews are excellent, and motivate me to learn.
Am enjoying being here
There are a lot of resources availiable for students. The one I find invaluable is the math tutoring center, because that is my weak area academically.
*I'm reviewing the va beach tcc campus
Bang for the buck
I highly suggest to people who are paying for their own education, to check out whether they can get their intro classes done here. Way more affordable than going straight to a regular university. Just make sure your credits will transfer.
Tips for prospective students
don't buy your texts from the bookstore if money is an issue for you.
you can rent most textbooks off of different online sites for waaay cheaper.
Great for these types of students
proactive, motivated, money-strapped

Am learning a lot
So far, all but two of my teachers that I have had were wonderful. If you are majoring in sociology or Microsoft Office I would research your teachers hard before signing up for your classes.
Am enjoying being here
I love the area that the Virginia Beach campus is is. It's easy to find & it's just ten miles from the ocean front! The only problem I have had is that one evening my car was broken into in the TCC parking lot, but nothing was stolen.
Bang for the buck
The prices for this school are decent and I love the way financial aid works. Before you go to the bookstore you get a little slip of paper saying how much you have in your financial aid account & what all you can spend it on. I have been enrolled here a full year now and have not spent a penny on my school.
Tips for prospective students
Sign up for your classes as quickly as possible, especially chemistry classes because they fill up fast. After you sign up for your classes go straight to financial aid and make sure your classes are covered because this school doesn't play around or go out of their way to help you out unless you ask for it.
Great for these types of students
TCC is great for students that like a laid back college environment. The Virginia Beach campus is close to the beach and to the mall, so there are plenty of places to spend time between classes.

I just completed my first degree in culinary arts. All the teachers in the program are currently in the field. The education received from the chefs is more than just information from the book. The chefs share personal experiences and past mistakes, which I have applied to my own career.
Am enjoying being here
The campus is in the middle of Norfolk. There are several great locations to eat at and spend down time in. Several locations offer discounts to students. There is also a large mall within walking distance.
Bang for the buck
If students show up to class on time and with their book, they are sure to learn. Teachers are very motivating and understanding. If students make the effort to ask for help, the teachers are willing to go out of their way to help them. There are also several resources available such as tutoring centers, writing resources, and even classes to improve math or writing skills before taking a college math or English course.
Tips for prospective students
Communicate with the teachers. They are well aware students attending the school have families and full time jobs.

You have freedom to pick your own classes, so fit them into your busy schedule. If you are not a morning person, take night classes. If you work during the week, take weekend classes. If you are not able to give the dedication needed to be a successful full time student, only take a couple of classes and be a part time student.
Great for these types of students
Parents (Single or Working)
Full Time workers - Classes are flexible
Students returning to school years after high school.
Career Advancement (school offers certificate programs and on the job training)
Students interested in joining the NAVY

Am learning a lot
I'm majoring in Culinary Arts and learning the many aspects of the food service industry. The textbooks and instructors provide essential information and are both excellent tools of the learning experience. The courses I took last semester contained valuable information as well. All of my instructors are helpful and provide assistance when needed.
Am enjoying being here
I feel comfortable at Tidewater Community College because I have met an assortment of people whom I have enjoyed being acquainted. My classmates and instructors are friendly.
Bang for the buck
Although the textbooks and equipment are expensive for the courses, it is reasonably price depending on one's course of study and situation. Textbooks are cheaper if purchased used.
Great for these types of students
Tidewater is great for students who want to start off their college year in a small campus in a classroom of twenty or less students. Those that want to get a feel for what college life is about in a small setting before they head to a much bigger college campus.
