Utah is a western state that largely experiences a desert climate, except for its mountain ranges, some of which are taller than trees can grow. As such, Utah is popular for its outdoor sports. The Beehive State is also the only state where a majority of the population are a part of a single religion, in this case, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Colleges in Utah are largely private nonprofit or for-profit, but there are several research institutions, as well, almost all of which are located in the central northern region of the state. The University of Utah in Salt Lake City was the state’s first higher education institution, while AmeriTech College is the most selective.
Utah’s economy is supported by tourism, mining, agriculture, mining, and information technology. The Zion National Park and Monument Valley are popular attractions, along with Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Salt Lake City, and the Mormon Temple.
