In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?
I feel I am learning very much in a hands-on environment for in person classes. Yes, there are many online options, but I definitely feel that the classes held in person are definitely the best taught that way. Having been homeschooled for all my previous education, I really enjoyed learning in person in a safe environment. The online classes, using Canvas specifically, were also very well formatted and great for learning.
How are you enjoying your time at this college?
I am enjoying my time at Spokane Community College very much. The teachers are all incredibly important and the students all work very hard and desire to learn.
What tips can you share with prospective students?
I would definitely find something to keep track of all the assignments of all the classes. I used a physical planner notebook, because I took very heavy credit loads and needed something to keep all my assignments organized. Otherwise, I would lose track of certain assignments and get way too stressed.
What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?
I already had the ability to work online and from home due to having been homeschooled already. That was a great advantage in being able to study at home. I also had a great work ethic and the capacity for organization, which helped very much.
In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?
I think this college challenges students academically in the variety of classes that most degrees need to take, especially the Associate of the Arts degree. It provides for a lot of versatility in the students. The teachers are also emphatic about doing good work and this challenges students but is definitely not unattainable.
How would you describe the food and dining options?
The food is delicious, the bakery especially. The culinary students do an incredible job, and all the food is relatively inexpensive compared to prices elsewhere.
In your experience, what is there to do for fun at this college?
The college has many events such as craft fairs and appreciation events for different groups of people. There are many ways to be involved in fun events.
How does this institution support campus safety or mental health and wellness programs?
This institution provides much campus safety. The campus security staff is very observant and takes the time to ensure student safety. There are routine lockdown and fire drills, as well as a system being in place on all computers and being optional for students to receive on their phones. There are also many organizations that are available to help with mental health and wellness programs.

Am learning a lot | A majority of the professors are great and really enjoy what they do, but there's always those that seem like they love making your life hell. |
Am enjoying being here | The campus is awesome! The cafe makes superb food, and there's plenty of places to chill, study, or have fun. This campus has everything from programs to resources! |
Bang for the buck | It's community college so it's cheaper than a four year! |
Tips for prospective students | Get your financial aid in early!!! There are a lot of students who apply so it takes the financial aid office a while to process them all. And make sure you talk with a counselor from the program that you're interested in because pre-reqs for courses and transfers can sometimes differ. |
Great for these types of students | For people who want to have fun while getting an education! There are so many different people here! I have people in my class that are in their 60's and 70's, but a majority are under 40. Teachers are extremely understanding to those with children as well! |

Am learning a lot | I have learned a lot at SCC. I have been lucky enough to receive teachers who do well at teaching and have the ability to lecture on a course without me becoming completely bored. The course work allows me to become more independent and learn how to manage my time wisely. |
Am enjoying being here | I enjoy being here because SCC offers many programs to help students in their academic studies. For example, the tutoring center program is a great addition to the college because many students receive extra help from student tutors. The working environment is comfortable and the tutors are full of information on their specific subjects. This really helps when you do not understand what the professor or book is saying! |
Bang for the buck | SCC is a community college, so the tuition is not as high as universities. It provides students with a good education without having to pay as much. |
Tips for prospective students | Apply early and really get to know the transfer councilors. Make an appointment with them immediately and plan out your future courses at SCC so you have a plan on what to do in your future. Also, buy your text books early so you do not have to wait in line for 2 to 3 hours at the book store! |
Great for these types of students | Students looking for small classroom sizes and the ability to approach a professors easily without too many people waiting in line. |
