Am learning a lot | Because it's such a small school, the classes are small and the teachers really care and make an effort to get to know you. This is a great school that gives you as much as you put into it, and the small class sizes and caring teachers really make a difference. Class offerings are substancial and help is always available. |
Am enjoying being here | This is a college that is a segway for most students, as it has a high transfer rate. Knowing this, classes are geared towards helping students prepare for transfer and to make sure they are taking classes they need. |
Bang for the buck | Very affordable! 20 dollars a credit? You can't get much cheaper than that. And the classes are small, friendly, and organized. You will get a great education, more than value for your money. |
Tips for prospective students | If you don't have a lot of financial options, or aren't quite ready to attend a four year univeristy, this is a great option. You can get your general education out of the way for a fraction of the cost at four year schools, and the college has transfer agreements with many colleges in the area. Very transfer oriented for a community college, and the teachers expect students to work hard and learn. This will prepare you for a four year college without hurting your wallet. If you want to be lazy, this isn't a college for you, but if you want to complete your GE for as little money and as quickly as possible, you will do well here. |
Great for these types of students | Not ready/unable to move away from home. Limited financial resources Want to get GE out of the way before transferring. |

Am learning a lot | Learning is a personal experience and what you take is directly correlated with what you put into it. The class sizes at Folsom Lake College are relatively small – definitely smaller than what you would find at the CSU’s or UC’s. This is a big benefit for those students who thrive on personal one on one interaction with the professor. If you get past the negative stereotype that is associated with community college, you will find professors that are not only willing to use their expertise to help you with problems, but that want to help you. People seem to forget that the main purpose of a community college is so that students who could not go to a CSU or an UC for whatever reason, be that due to academic or financial issues, would be able to seamlessly transfer into one of those institutions. So even though there are more remedial classes than there are transfer classes, there are dedicated students that attend Folsom Lake College so that they can go anywhere from UC Berkeley or to the more local Sac State. Therefore, if you put in the effort and really apply yourself, you will truly learn a lot more than you think you will. |
Am enjoying being here | Folsom Lake College could definitely not be considered a party college in any way, shape or form. However, what FLC has to offer is a true state-of-the-art campus. Everything on campus is new and in top form, so that is a huge advantage for students attending this school. Transferring students is a big priority for the staff here on campus, so that makes me appreciate them and their efforts as someone who is looking to transfer to UC San Diego, a highly competitive school. FLC is a very safe campus, located in a suburban community so although it is quiet, you can easily find something to do to occupy your time whether that be through volunteering or other means. Sacramento and other large cities are also in a close proximity, so one can never truly be bored with many places to go to such a short distance away. |
Bang for the buck | When it comes to getting your bang for the buck, nothing could apply more to this than community college. At Folsom Lake College, it is $26 per unit so for a full time student, someone who is enrolled in at least 12 units, it comes to $624 for both the fall and spring semester. At a CSU or an UC, it costs more than triple the amount for a year of attendance, so Folsom Lake College is a good way to save money if transferring to a 4-year university is in your future. With the economy in dire straights at the moment, families are doing everything they can to send their children to college, so if finances are the number one factor in considering which college to attend, going to FLC or any other community college is a very good choice. What also contributes to getting your bang for your buck is TAG, the Transfer Admission Guarantee program that they have at all community colleges, so Folsom Lake College is included. Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz are the seven UC campuses that offer this program and it is a great way to take some of the anxiety off your chest. If you do decide to do this program, you would be getting your lower division general education requirements out of the way, be saving money while taking those classes, and have guaranteed admission to any one of those exceptional colleges as long as you fulfill all of the requirements. is campus is also a part of the Los Rios Community College District, so there are four accredited colleges that you can attend, FLC being one of the four. Since these four colleges are part of the same district, it is easier for you to take classes at one college and have those credits recognized by another college in the same district which takes away the stress of wondering if these credits will count or not – therefore this is also another way that FLC gives you your bang for your buck. |
Tips for prospective students | One thing that I would urge prospective students to do is to watch deadlines like a hawk and do everything as early as possible. With the state budget being late and education being a lower priority than it should be, competition for a seat in any class is tough. So if you have even the slightest notion that you are going to attend this campus, get done with your assessment test early and speak with a counselor as soon as possible. |
Great for these types of students | Folsom Lake College is a great campus for those students that have a burning desire to transfer from an acknowledged campus to a 4-year institution. It is a great campus to get all of the general education requirements out of the way at a fraction of the cost that a tradition 4-year institution would cost. |

In three sentences | Folsom Lake College harbors professors who have your best interest in mind. The staff will jump through hoops to help you succeed. The welcoming atmosphere eases the stress of college life. |
Tips for prospective students | Take time to talk to a counselor and set up an academic plan! If you plan your classes ahead of time, enrollment dates won't be so painful. Have several back up schedules in place to protect yourself from being unable to find open classes. |
Academic Rigor | The professors have a way of making difficult subjects such as math seem easy. They are there to challenge students, yet help them along the way toward success. Reaching success is only as hard as the student makes it for their self. |
Food and Dining | The Java City coffee hut kept me alive during finals for two semesters. The cafeteria offers several healthy food options, and is a great place for students to decompress. As well as many healthful food options, the cafeteria offers several convenient employment options for students. |
What to do for fun | Folsom Lake College is placed directly across from beautiful movie theater and shopping mall, a key place for students to hang out. If students need to get away, the lake is fifteen minutes from campus, and several fishing ponds are scattered throughout the Folsom area. If you just need to take a break between classes, you can to the Falcon's Roost to shoot pool and play arcade games. |
Bang for the buck | Classes are as reasonably priced as the government allows. Students recieve a far higher quality of education than they pay for at Folsom, and are provided extremely helpful services in the counseling office. |
Great for these types of students | Folsom Lake is great for a student who is unsure if their future goals, and is great for students who wish to transfer to a university without overpaying for general education. |
Clubs and Activities | There are always new clubs popping up around campus! There are several club-rush opportunities for students to explore more activities. |
Campus Safety | The campus police are friendly and are a force to be reckonned with...remember to buy your parking permit! |

In three sentences | Folsom Lake College is definitely a place to begin and/or continue your education. Everyone is friendly and there to help you through your college experience. Folsom Lake College is like one big family. |
Tips for prospective students | Future students, don't expect community college to be any easier than a university. The classroom sizes are smaller, but you still need to work for your grade. |
Academic Rigor | Strictness depends on the class and teacher. However, no classes are easy A's with absolutely zero effort. |
Dorm Life | No dorms at Folsom Lake College |
Food and Dining | Food is incredible. Folsom Lake Main Campus breakfast burritos are the best! |
What to do for fun | The main campus is beautiful; you can study outside with study groups, or you can study inside the library. There are study rooms inside the library that give each group private areas to work together. |
Bang for the buck | I am currently paying out-of-state tuition, but I believe the normal tuition for residents of California is definitely worth every penny. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | There are weekly events on campus, especially at the EDC campus. |
Great for these types of students | FLC is great for any student who is determined to learn. |
Clubs and Activities | Too many clubs and activities to count! Anti-gay club to gaming club and there is also a club that is in charge of the campus activities each week at EDC. |
Campus Safety | Very safe; the campus police are very active and they also check every car for their parking permits so be cautious about that! |

Am learning a lot | Maybe it's just because I'm younger than most other college students, but I find that I am learning an amazing number of new things. The teachers here are sometimes not quite up to par, either on ability to teach or qualification to teach, which is why I took off a star, but the vast majority of instruction I have received has been amazing and of the greatest quality. One of my music professors has a Ph.D. in musical composition! I mean, can you ask for better qualifications? |
Am enjoying being here | The environment at Folsom Lake is very clean and fresh. Much of the equipment is new or like new, and the buildings are very well built: pretty and functional. The quality of the teachers extends not only to the education, but their desire to help you to feel better about your goals, expand your horizons, and bring you closer to where you want to be. The student interactions here are different for everyone; if you want to be alone, that's easily doable here, but if you're like me and need people around to keep you from going totally insane, friends are not hard to come by at Folsom Lake. |
Bang for the buck | Need I say more than a semester of instruction with a Ph.D. for $108? Great quality for ridiculous prices. |
Tips for prospective students | Give it a shot! It's a great place to find yourself if you're not sure where you want to be yet (like me!). |
Great for these types of students | Students that aren't sure of themselves yet, students that need extra reinforcement of undergrad/high school skills, students look for a cheaper alternative to a four year with similar quality |

Don't be afraid to ask for anything, the staff are wonderful and will work with you through everything. See a counselor regularly because they really keep you on track! |
Academic Rigor | Just because this is a community college does not mean that the corriculum differs from that of a university. You are getting a quality education here from professors who really want you to take away from this learning experience. I have gained so much knowledge as well as wisdom from hearing about my professor's experiences. |
Dorm Life | There are no living facilities on the campuses, yet the campuses have so much to offer, such as the computer labs, libraries, food courts and not to mention the beautiful country views that make it easy to get some studying in. |

What to do for fun | The student body puts together fun activites on all campuses to gain more information about programs and have fun. There has been live music, free food and lots of memories. |

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | I love Day on the Greens. Where we just hang out with eachother, listen to live music, eat free food and learn about all of the great opportunities that await! |
