Am learning a lot | You get out of it, what you put into it. it's one of those schools where you aren't competing for attention, so you can get a good education. |
Am enjoying being here | I have found that, despite the small size, it's very easy to find people with similar interests -- especially if you like alternative music and culture! |
Bang for the buck | very expensive, but if you can come up with the money or the loans, it's worth it. |
Tips for prospective students | make sure you are prepared for snow, cold weather, and a lot of wind! it gets cold. it's also a rather quiet campus, so you make your own fun. |
Great for these types of students | self-motivated, individualized, unique students. |

Will learn a lot | The advantage of being a rural school, is that the students will be more concentrated or focus on school than anything else that could keep them back from achieving their goals... |
Will enjoy being here | I slept over, attended a class, had a great time and I'm already considering myself as part of the community... It really is amazing!!!! |

In three sentences | If you love a close knit communitity then this is the college for you. The teachers here are great and super understanding and really make an effort to get to know their students. Also it is a very small school but there is always something to do. |
Tips for prospective students | Tips would be bring extra layers of clothing. And don't knock anything till you try it |
Academic Rigor | I am a freshman so I can't speak to much on rigor. As for the classes I am in now. They are college classes. I took a philosophy class with Greenman, who is an awesome teacher and I would advise anyone to take at least one class with him. But it does require reading and the writting of 4 papers throughout the semester. Other then that it is a very balanced workload. |
Dorm Life | Great rooms. Spacious and very homey |
Food and Dining | I mean its college food not a 5 star restaurant. But everything is very edible and they have a suggestion board which they actually pay attention to. |
What to do for fun | Sports, go out for the night to parties, friends, really there is always something to do as long as you look. |
Bang for the buck | Great financial aid so yes |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | There is this thing called mountain day where one day out of the first month of school the bell rings, classes are cancelled and kids load up on buses and go climb a mountain and have a cookout for the day. It is super fun. You make t shirts and everything for it. |
Great for these types of students | Crunchy Granola STudents, and really anyone. Its a home away from home |
Clubs and Activities | More then you can imagine and it is super easy to start a new one |
Greek Life | Non existant |
Campus Safety | Super nice and friendly. The officers on campus are great. Bates is the man, watch out for the female one though, she is a hard hat. In general probably the safest college. I am female and have walked around outside at 3 am and felt safer then I did at home. It is a quite town and there is never any thing to be worried about. The people are all very law abiding aswell |

In three sentences | If you're looking for a place to have a great connection with teachers, a friendly and safe environment while having fun at the same time, Colby-Sawyer is the place for you. One never thinks twice about their safety here as campus safety does a grab job of ensuring the well-being of everyone. With a small school consisting of less than 2000 students, you'll always see friendly faces you know. |
Tips for prospective students | If you're looking for a place to be challenged, this is certainly the place for you. As a predominantly only science college, professors will have you often think critically and connect things to form a bigger picture. |
Academic Rigor | For a small school, Colby-Sawyer College doesn't receive enough credit for being a hard school. There is a 50% transfer/incomplete rate here, which could entail this school appearing easier than it actually is. |
Dorm Life | You'll get to know people here very well. Entire dorms will get to know each other on a personal level in a matter of a month or two, and you'll have friends for a lifetime. The dorms themselves are relatively nice band loud at times. Quiet, suite-style dorms are also available to accommodate who like to work in peace. |
Food and Dining | Some students here may complain about our service here Sodexo. Often students will say they eat the same things everyday here and there is no variety. Don't buy into that. Sodexo offers a wide variety of meals everyday, you just have to move out of your comfort zone and try new things from time to time! There are also vegan stands, and certain foods that are available for students who have certain allergies. |
What to do for fun | There are clubs and events every week for people to enjoy. From artists such as Kris Allen from american idol performing here, to comedians from VH1 and on TV everywhere making us laugh on weekends, you'll always find yourself with something to do. For snowboarders and skiiers, there are free season passes to mount Sunapee to take advantage of. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Campus golf is very fun for students who have a little time to have fun. |

Dorm Life | Dorm life is an experience that I would never want to give up. You get to know everyone and you are close with most of them. Your RAs are extremely helpful as well. |
Food and Dining | Our school uses Sodexo for our food. The food is tasty and the dining accommodations are nice. The school is expanding the dining facilities right now and it is suppose to be awesome. |
What to do for fun | On campus there is always something to do. Events such as comedians, wacky bingo, laser tag, and open mic nights happen on campus. RAs also conduct activities in the dorms. |
Bang for the buck | The school is amazing and well worth the money. You get an excellent education for the money that you pay. Also you get most things on campus for free which makes it even more worth it. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | We have a tradition on campus called mountain day. This is a day where the president will ring the tower bell on some given day. All classes are cancelled for the day and we get shuttled to Kearsarge mountain, we tie dye t-shirts, hike the mountain, and eat a barbecue. |
Great for these types of students | Campus is great for students who want a small school and who want a relationship with almost everyone else on campus. |
Clubs and Activities | There are many clubs and activities on campus. We have clubs for every major on campus. There are all sorts of clubs and if the school doesn't have one that you want you can start it yourself! |
Greek Life | There is no Greek Life on campus. |
Campus Safety | The campus safety officers at Colby-Sawyer are top notch. They are all really helpful and are always happy. If you need help they are always willing to help you, no matter what time it is. |
