Tuition, Cost & Aid

Affordability and Cost

Average Net Price Average net price for full-time, first-time degree/certificate-seeking undergraduates paying the in-state or in-district tuition rate who were awarded grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments, or the institution. Other sources of grant aid are excluded. Aid awarded anytime during the full aid year is included.

Average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state or local government, or institutional grant and scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies and the weighted average room and board and other expenses.

Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

What Students Are Saying

Cal state la's tuition is still pretty cheap. If anybody does go here then it is money well spent because students get a good education without the benefit of the doubt.
Ivette from Los Angeles, CA
CalstateLA is not expensive compared to other schools but does not sell itself short due to the non-expensive tuition.
Stephanie from Los Angeles, CA
The tuition is reasonable and cheap. So that's a plus !
Syrena from Los Angeles, CA
I have just begun here, but so far the professors are definitely bang for your buck. However, there could be more or a larger lounge because the Pit is often full and the tables have a long waiting list. There also aren't many fields for recreational physical activities such as ultimate Frisbee or other grass field sports.
Jerry from El Monte, CA
For a quality education, the price is decent, however with the budget cuts, that may become a thing of the past so remember to fill out those scholarships!
Jatomis from Azusa, CA
Although, tuition has been going up due to the budget crisis. Cal State LA still remains one of cheap California State Universities. So if your also focusing on cost when applying to colleges it's a place to consider.
Arlena, CSU LA Sophomore
The school has a much lower tuition fee compared to other CSU's and it is the same education so that is a plus.
