Am learning a lot | I have never been exposed to so much information in one academic year! Because of the distributional requirements you are exposed to a multitude of subjects and you learn a little bit of everything. My first year, I took classes in History, Biology, Math, Spanish, English, and Political Science. All the professors really know their subjects and are excited to teach. Its impossible to not learn something interesting everyday! |
Am enjoying being here | I absolutely love Agnes!! At first I wasn't sure about an all women's college but it was a great choice for me. The campus is beautiful, the dorms are amazing, the people are fantastic and it seems that everyone is happy to be there. There are lots of activities off and on campus so you never have to be bored. Having Atlanta so close is really great; there is never a lack of stores, restaurants, and attractions! |
Bang for the buck | Agnes really is worth the money you may (or may not) pay. For the most part the Financial Aid office is really generous and helpful. I don't know anyone who didn't get some form of help, be it merit or need. Because of the quality of the education and the reputation at Agnes, your degree can really take you places, be it grad school or the workforce. |
Tips for prospective students | VISIT!!! Visit the campus, especially if you are undecided! Talk to students (we are all on facebook and would love to chat). But do your homework, are you sure you want a women's college? Is it to close to/too far from home? If there is a program you are interested in talk to a professor. Don't be afraid to ask questions! |
Great for these types of students | Women (of course!) Girls who know how to balance school work and free time. Because you will have to put in some hard work and you need to know how to take a break. |

In three sentences | This college is academically challenging in a positive way. The sense of community is strong on campus. The professor-to-student ratio is great, and the learning center is very helpful. |
Tips for prospective students | Do not apply here if you do not want to be challenged or if you want an easy A. |
Academic Rigor | The professors and learning assistants are very helpful and useful when you need help on anything. |
Dorm Life | The resident assistants make sure that everyone is adjusting comfortably and that we have enough floor/dorm gatherings to get to know each other better. These are rules set for each dorm and floor to ensure that there are no problems. |
Food and Dining | The manager of the dining hall and Mollies takes suggestions and critiques so that he can ensure that we get a better experience in both food places. |
What to do for fun | There are events on campus every day. Go to a few of them and see which one interests you the most then see which campus organization hosted the event so that you can join it. Downtown Decatur is just across the railroad tracks, so there is always something to do even off campus. |

In three sentences | Aesthetically Agnes Scott is like being transported to Hogwarts. The professors, staff, and other students are always willing to work with you and happy to do so. The tuition isn't cheap, but financial aid will do everything possible to work with you to get you here and keep you here. |
Tips for prospective students | Come to Agnes! I had many public large colleges on my lists and talking to my friends who went to them, I am getting so much more out of my education. You aren't just a number or a paycheck here at Agnes. Your professors will know your name and they care about you. If they notice you missing a lot of classes, they will email you to make sure you are feeling well or offer to extend deadlines if you are sick. Within my first semester on campus, I was already talking about internships and my future with advisers and professors. If you want to come to Agnes, there is a way you can make the payments. |
Academic Rigor | Academically, Agnes is not for the lazy. You will have hard classes, but you will learn so much. The courses are challenging, but most definitely manageable! |
Dorm Life | Dorms are cleaned frequently. They are a lot better than most colleges I visited, but it is still a college dorm. |
Food and Dining | If you leave Evans dining hall hungry, you must be crazy. There is food for all types of dietary restrictions and it tastes better than any college food I have ever seen. Even when Evans is closed you can go to Mollie's cafe which has burgers, fries, wraps, and whatever veggies you want on them. |
What to do for fun | There is always something going on at Agnes. There are so many clubs on campus that there is always somewhere to be (usually with free food). Also, being located so close to Atlanta and having accessible public transportation, you can easily go to a Braves game or the aquarium. |
Bang for the buck | It may not be cheap, but the personalized and competitive academics will get you ahead. There are so many study abroad and internship opportunities. An Agnes education is exactly whatever you put into it. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Black Cat is our homecoming week that has everything from plays mocking Agnes, dance competitions, rushing the quad (literally throwing colorful trash all over the quad), a bonfire where you dress up as your class mascot, and a formal. |
Great for these types of students | Everyone. There is very little discrimination. All races and sexual identities are accepted and loved. |
Clubs and Activities | There are clubs for everything and everyone has an opportunity to start a club or get a leadership position in an existing one. IF you have an interest, there is probably a club. |
Greek Life | We do not have greek life. |
Campus Safety | Public Safety on our campus are actual police officers. They are friendly and always helpful. If you need a ride back from Marta (the subway) at midnight and don't want to walk in the dark, they will come pick you up. They make you feel even more safe on a nearly crime free campus. As you are at Agnes, you will get to know the public safety officers personally and they genuinely care about Agnes students and our safety. |

In three sentences | A college that is accepting of students from every background possibly imaginable. The possibilities are endless for what you want to study with classes that include a variety of interests and programs allowing students to create their own majors if they want more than what Agnes Scott offers. With a beautiful campus and a close proximity to Atlanta, Agnes Scott packs a lot of punch for a small school. |
Tips for prospective students | Make sure that you are on top of your game when it comes to getting work done on time. The semester may start off easy, especially for first year students, but it gets progressively harder as time goes on so students have to be time conscious and not leave work to the last minute. |
Academic Rigor | Agnes Scott is known for producing students who have achived high success in their careers. This is because Agnes promotes student research and ensures students are able to handle large papers and projects that they might experience later in their lives. The school doesn't have an honors program because it is assumed that any student able to get in is considered an honors student which is why the school's course work and grading scale is so rigorous. |
Dorm Life | Agnes Scott has communal styled dorms the include two to three students to a room with each hall sharing two bathroom/shower areas (usually with 4 showers and 7 toliets/sinks each) and a half kitchen (all of the normal appliances found in a kitchen except a stove and oven). There is always the oppertunity for upper classmen to live off campus in the school's appartment complex where up to four students share a 2 bedroom appartment that is fully furished and includes a full kitchen. |
Food and Dining | Agnes Scott has three different places to grab food on campus and each place accepts food plans to pay for meals during the respective meal times. The main dining hall has a long food rotation cycle which ensures that certain main dishes don't repeat too often which allows for a larger variety of options. There is always a vegetarian/vegan station and each station will list whether of not their food has gluten or dairy and whether it not it falls undert the vegan or vegatarian deits. The next largest food place has grill-styled food and is meant for students ho need a grab and go type of meal. Their food is cooked as it is order and is known for its serving speed. It also sells smaller grab and go snacks such as cereal bowls, chips, candy, and trail mix type snacks. This food option also has a freezer which sells Ben and Jerry's icecream and frozen entrees. The final food option is the school's coffee cafe which sells Starbucks coffee and smoothies as well as a variety of pastries. |
What to do for fun | Agnes Scott is located in Decatur, Georgia and is literally right across the street from downtown Decatur. There is easy acess to public transit for students with out a car. The school hosts many events free to students as well. If one wishes for a bigger setting, Decatur is less than 10 minutes from Atlanta and the colleges located in Atlanta (Emory, Georgia Tech., Spelman, ect.). |
Bang for the buck | Despite Agnes Scott's hefty price tag, 90% of students have half or more than half of their tuition covered by the school. A degree from Agnes Scott looks very impressive to graduate schools and the college has a 98% accptance rate. |
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | Agnes Scott is known for its Black Cat week which is a frendly competition between the classes to see who has the most spirit. Each class has a designated color (yellow, blue, red, or green) and a voted on mascot, both of which they keep for all four years. Various competitions such as decorations, field day, original song and dance, and dinner themes allow for the classes to earn points to determine the winner at the end of the week. Another very import tradition is the class ring tradition. The Agnes Scott ring has not chnaged for almost 60 years. There is a large cermony and dinner that occurs when sophmores recieve their rings in their Spring semester. |
Greek Life | Agnes Scott does not have a Greek Life. |
Campus Safety | Each stdent is equipt with an ID which enables them to get into buildings after hours. This ensures that no random people can walk around the buildings unknown. There are visable Agnes Scott police on campus 24/7 and on the back of everyone's ID is their number. Freshmen dorms require a student ID to enter them regardless of the time of day and all visitors for any student in any building must be chaperoned. |

Am learning a lot | The first-year seminars are very informative. I never thought I would look at food this way. There are a lot of different FYS topics offered for first-years in order to expand the way we think and promote the way we write. The wide range of classes offered is just amazing. All of the professors are nice, and the workload is never too much. |
Am enjoying being here | I sincerely wish that I lived further away from Agnes Scott, so my parents would require me to go home every weekend. There are a lot of things to do, needless to say, and there is at least a fun event or two going on every month. Black Cat week was amazing, and I'm sure you prospectives will think the same when you come to it. |
Bang for the buck | It is a liberal arts school, so not much on the science bits, but it does have a wide range of subjects to study. It's expensive, because they take very good care of the grass and have high-tech study rooms that students can use. They make us feel comfortable and feel like a student, rather than a number on paper. |
Tips for prospective students | Don't stress out and enjoy your time here. Come visit. Before I came here to look around, I had my heart set on another school, and I was definitely going to go there, but when I set foot on Agnes Scott, the cool breeze rustling through the trees and the sight of actual grass made me fall in love with this campus, and I'm sure it'll take your breath away too. |
Great for these types of students | Anyone looking for a new and unique experience. I would have never considered an all-women college before, but I hardly notice the lack of male students. If you need to party, there are always GA Tech boys and parties. As for the campus, it is just enjoyable and peaceful. |

Tips for prospective students | be yourself. come prepared for strenuous classes. don't be afraid to participate in activities on campus. this is not a party school. |
Academic Rigor | the classes are tough. most of them, anyway. because the class size is so small (13-20) students on average, the professors have the freedom to be thorough with their instruction, but on the same token, the professors will help you out if you need them to. |
Dorm Life | the dorms are a good size compared to other schools, but some buildings don't have a/c. |
Food and Dining | the food here is acceptable, but not really spectacular. when i can, i go off campus to eat. |
What to do for fun | go into the city, ride the train into atlanta, sunbathe on the quad. |

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus | black cat! a week long celebration of sorts. |
Great for these types of students | active learners, open minded observers, people who love to laugh and experience new things. |
Clubs and Activities | there are so many clubs to join and so many activities to participate in. from the anime club to the gaming club, to the daughters of gaia. |
Greek Life | none. agnes believes that greek life would separate the student body. |
Campus Safety | we have an excellent public safety team on campus, and while i have never needed them, i am positive that if i did, they would be there. |
