5 College With Pet-Friendly Dorms

5 Pet-Friendly Dorms

One of the hardest parts of going to college is leaving your family. That includes your furry family members. Well, some colleges are trying to make that transition easier for students. Certain college dorms across the country are allowing students to bring their pets to live with them. Here is a small selection of residence halls that will welcome both you and your pet!

Bentley Hall – Lees-McRae College

Students residing in Bentley Hall may now bring fish, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, birds, ferrets, cats and dogs under 40 pounds to school with them. The college enacted this policy in 2011, citing that pets can help students deal with stress and homesickness. Lees-McRae encourages their faculty and staff to bring their pets, as well.

Pillsbury, Searcy, and Tower Halls – Stephens College

Stephens College has a number of options for pet-owning students to choose from. Pillsbury Hall offers both pet-friendly and pet-free floors. Searcy and Tower Halls are entirely pet-friendly. Tower Hall is even known as Pet Central around campus.

Nemec Hall – Stetson University

Students may bring their dogs weighing less than 30 pounds, cats, hamsters, gerbils, and more to live with them in Nemec Hall. The campus even has a dog park for students. The only catch is any dog or cat that a student brings must be at least a year old and have lived with the student’s family for at least year prior to the student living on campus.

Samuel Hall - Delaware Valley University

Rabbits, cats, hamsters, snakes, geckos and guinea pigs are welcome to reside in Samuel Hall with students. Students worked with faculty and staff to research, create and put the pet policy into place. Due to the popularity of the policy, the university has even been working to expand the number of rooms that allow pets.

Various Houses – California Institute of Technology

Students may have up to two cats or small pets housed in a maximum 20-gallon aquarium or terrarium in Ruddock, Lloyd, Page, Blacker, Dabney, Fleming and Ricketts Houses. Cats must be sterilized, up-to-date on shots and restricted to certain areas. Caltech’s pet-friendly nature has even led to the formation of the Caltech Animal Team (CAT). This group takes care of homeless animals who live on campus and the surrounding areas.
